LNRG FINANCIAL LITERACY | WEDAY 12.15.2015
How do we define Financial Literacy?
With YOUNG MONEY Playlist
We are opening the black box of what it means to be financially literate, or money smart
We take the young person from investing in small change to investing in big change
The playlist culminates in the We Create Change action
Being able to save money, earn money, invest smartlya.k.a. Money Smarts.
-
The Cultural Connector is part expert, part influencer, part friend.
Someone who has been there.
Neither teacher nor mentor, the Connector has experience, knowledge, and know-how in the given subject matter, and provides a unique perspective rooted in cultural context, through a provocative real-life lens.

YOUNG MONEY Playlist
Badge #1
SHOW ME THE MONEY
Money Barometer
We take the young person through Show Me the Money, where there are individual activities to help the young person understand the fundamentals of financial literacy and benefits of starting to think about managing money.
The young person then learns how to invest insmall change by voting with their money.
Activities and resources encourage the young person to be aware of social causes and being socially responsible from an investment standpoint.
These sets of experiences culminate in a resource management game, where a young person is given a set (imaginary) budget, and told he or she may invest it in whatever he or she wants, in a socially responsible stock portfolio.
We now introduce the young person to the We Create Change campaign, which is a national coin drive that supports Free The Childrens sustainable development model, Adopt a Village.
The Adopt a Village development pillar helps the young person realize that he or she can fundraise for and collect coins with your school or community.
Then, the young person learns about the impacts his/her collected coins will have around the world.

Change is Happening Now
Pick an Adopt a Village development pillar to fundraise for and collect coins with your school or community. Then learn about the impacts your collected coins will have around the world.
YOUNG MONEY Playlist
The only reason people work is to earn money. What are some other
reasons why people might work?
Use $10,000 to create a socially responsible stock portfolio.
Using the business section of the newspaper, and the internet, young people select three to five publicly traded companies they want to invest in.
During their research, they must record the followinginformation for each investment.
Current stock price (purchase date) The number of stocks being purchased Why investing in this company will further
your personal social mission How it will work (Will you be investing to
support change or encourage change?)
