The wives of the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, they are role models for all of us, an example for us women. And we
see over here that when someone is in a position like that where they are an example for others, then
greater the responsibility, greater the sacrifice and greater the ر جح .also, the greater the reward also أ

So we see over here that the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, they were not just ordinary women, they
were not just wives of the Prophetملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, they were also لمات they were also teachers. Especially ,م
we look at Aisha (r.a.) that she also taught others, so many people learned from her, so many حادث أ
about the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص’s personal life, his الق خح his night worship; we learn about ,عبادة his mode of ,أ
that from whose narrations? The narrations of Aisha (r.a.)
So we see that where she was the wife of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, her sacrifice was huge, her position was
huge and because of that her reward انشاء هللا will also be huge. Because we see that the wives of the
prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, they willingly chose the أ خرة, they sacrificed their دنيا, they let go of the comforts of
this world, they bore the hardships in this life for the sake of the دني, they experienced hunger and
thirst with the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.
Aisha (r.a.) said that “The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص passed away while in one day he did not even have oil with
bread twice.”
Meaning he could only afford to have it once. The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص spent so many days of his life just
surviving on what? The two black things and that is just dates and water.
Just imagine if for حسر we have just dates and water, what would we think of ourselves, right? And
if we had just that for فطار on days on end ,ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص what would we think of ourselves? But the Prophet ,ا
he would only have dates and water to live on. And what do you think about his family? What do
you think about his wives, what did they eat? What he ate! Because they lived with him, they
sacrificed along with him. They experienced fear and danger with رل هللا ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, they even travelled
with him. And we learn that they supported the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص in every kind of difficulty and even
though they were given a choice over here that; ‘If you want you can leave, if you want you can
leave’ Imagine they were given this choice but they chose the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, they chose the دني, they
did not leave ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص رل هللا even though they were given the choice and when they chose the أ خرة then
Allah has promised great reward for them, Allah has promised a great, great compensation for them.
قا كرميا ن لها رزح تدح عح وأ تيح رها مر جح
تا أ ؤح ن
A noble provision because the fact is that when a person chooses Allah over everything else, when a
person chooses دني over دنيا, when a person chooses أ خرة over دنيا then Allah will not waste his
sacrifice. Allah will not waste the effort of His servant. And especially for a woman, for her to
sacrifice the luxuries, the comfort of this world, it’s very difficult.
You know as women how much we desire nice clothes, how much we desire nice comfortable
houses, linens, curtains, I mean all of these things what are they? Weaknesses of women! Men, what
do they care, isn’t it? What do they care, many times it doesn’t make a difference to them whether
the dishes are matching or not, right? Whether everything is going with each other or not, in terms
of colour, in terms of everything else, they really don’t care. But for women this is really a weakness.
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 3 ربنا تقبل منا
And the thing is that the more a woman desires these things the more time and attention and money
she devotes to these matters, isn’t it so?
Like for example, if you want a particular curtain on your window, what are you going to do? Are
you just going to go to one store? No, you are going to check online, you’re going to look at fabric
stores, you’re going to go from store to store and see where the best deals are. If you can, you would
even go to the states to buy one, right? Now look at the time and the attention and the focus that is
being devoted to these things. If a woman is focusing on all of these things so much then where do
you think she can give attention to the دني, to the قرأ ن.
So for a woman who really chooses, that yes, I want to really use my life to serve Allah, I want to
use my life to serve the دني of Allah, then she really has to make a conscious decision to really put
her house second in priority, to put her comfort second in priority and put Allah, His دني, the أ خرة, first in priority, and this is no easy decision for a woman to make. It is really not easy.
For example my mother, I have seen when I was growing up, every weekend I remember our entire
kitchen would be cleaned top to bottom; every cabinet. Every cabinet, because here you don’t really
have to do that but in Pakistan things get really dusty very quickly, all right? So every kitchen
cabinet, imagine was cleaned inside out. My mother would make sure the house was this clean, and
even though she is not doing everything herself, to get things done to such detail, you really have to
put in effort. I have seen my mother doing that, I’ve seen my mother and I know when she started
Al-Huda, when she started Al-Huda, there would be days she wouldn’t even walk into the kitchen.
And I know that was not an easy decision for her, but if she didn’t make that decision for herself that,
‘My house is now second in priority,’ then Al-Huda, the teaching of the قرأ ن could not be first in
priority. It could never be first in priority, never be! Because for a woman really to get out of that
mental state, that you know, “My house is not my first priority, yes, I love my house, it’s an مانة on أ
me, I have to take care of my family but my house does not deserve hundred percent of my attention
and my physical energy and my mental energy and the space in my heart, I have to let go of it.”
You see the thing is we have to detach ourselves from these things and for women its extremely
difficult but until and unless we make this decision, we really cannot go forward in the way of Allah.
I mean for a woman to pursue her career also, to look after her children also, doesn’t she have to put
these things aside? Doesn’t she have to? She has to! And the thing is no matter how much we
devote our lives to our houses and to our things, how much are we going to enjoy them? How
much? We see these things getting destroyed in front of us, in front of us. I mean here is a woman
who’s desperately trying to clean her walls, scrub, clean her walls, she’s sitting on her knees and then
what happens? Two hours later another child comes with a nice new marker and that’s it, the wall is
gone! Isn’t it? You see these things getting destroyed in front of you, this is their worth! This is
their worth! So are they really deserving of all of this attention and focus?
I’m not saying let your houses turn into garbage dumps, no, what I’m saying is detach yourself from
these things. Otherwise we cannot make much of our lives, we cannot go forward in the way of
Allah and if we don’t, then what’s going to happen? I mean if the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص did not
co-operate with ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص رل هللا , could he convey the دني? Could he teach the people? Could he go out
in the way of Allah, do ‘ بيل هللا could he travel for months on end in order to defend the ’جهاد ف
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 4 ربنا تقبل منا
religion of Allah, could he? He couldn’t! He needed that support from his wives, that cooperation
from his family. And this was a family that consciously chose the أ خرة over the دنيا.
And what are we doing? We have the دني, we have the دني but what do we do? We put the قرأ ن away, we put the دني away and we choose the دنيا over the دني. But the one who sacrifices this دنيا for the أ خرة Allah promises them:
قا كرميا ن لها رزح تدح عح وأ تيح رها مر جح
تا أ ؤح .We have prepared for her a noble provision - ن
ب ي نساء :32الن …. O wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, you are not like anyone among women. If
you fear Allah, then do not be soft in speech [to men] ….
Meaning your status is not like that of any other women, right? Why? Because you see the wives of
the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, they were role models for the rest of the women and at the same time being the
wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, meaning generally their interaction with men was greater because many
people came to the houses of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص looking for him, intending to speak to him, asking
about where he was, right? And especially being the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص they were more in
the public eye.
So over here the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص are asked that you need to become careful in your speech
when you speak to men. When you talk to men then how do you have to be? Careful in your
speech! Do not be too soft, too soft as if inviting for further conversation, no! Don’t invite further
conversation. Do not be soft, it doesn’t mean be harsh and rude; it just means be straight to the
point, focused on what you have to say and get that conversation over with. And this is something
that we all need to look at when we interact with men, Non-Mahram men, whether they may be
people in our class or people at work or they may be our teachers even, professors even, boss even,
whoever it may be, how is it we speak to them? Are we too giggly with them? Are we too soft with
them? Are we talking to them as if we are talking to our husbands or our brothers or our children?
We need to be careful over here. The wives of رل هللا ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص are instructed:
ل ح ق ن بلح ح ض تح !And the same and even more so goes for us - فال
…. lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate speech.
Meaning the person in whose heart is some فتنة, some disease, all right? And every person suffers
from some kind of disease in his heart in the sense that every man is weak, right? Every man is weak
especially when it comes to women, he’s weak! There is that weakness in his heart. So Allah says
that such a person might covet, meaning he might desire, he might keep some expectation of you,
right? So don’t even allow that and how do you do that? By speaking correctly - روفا ح ل م ح وقلحن ق
How? Speak that which is good, speak that which is needed, what is essential, what is just enough;
clear and precise. There is no need to be very friendly, very humorous, giggly and talking about one
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 5 ربنا تقبل منا
thing after the other that is unnecessary, no! Be to the point, be clear, be concise and be good,
meaning you don’t have to be harsh over there - روفا ح ل م ح قلحن ق
What we learn over here is that a woman herself needs to put her guard on, right? Because
sometimes we say, I’m covered, what else do I need to do? No, you cover yourself and you also
guard your speech, your manner of interaction, your manner of engaging with the people of the
opposite gender, you have to do that! Why? Because perhaps our speech will cause فتنة in the heart
of another person. And this could even be through the حاب and نقاب by the way, this can be. It is
not enough to just to put a cover on, to put some clothing on and then speak very nicely to men as if
you are joking to your brother. No, you have to be careful. And by the way, yes, they are your
brothers in Islam but they are not your real brothers. So there has to be some distance over there.
And notice how the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, I mean they are being told! And who are these men
who would come to them? These were the حصابة !حصابة!
So don’t think when you are talking to a man who has a very nice beard and has the قرأ ن memorized
and also leads صالة at the مسجد, and gives a خطبة, or is the president of the ‘MSA’ that, “O their heart
is very pure.” No, they are human being after all! So you have to be careful, save yourself and also
save them, right? Remember the control is with you. This is so empowering! The control is with
you, it’s about how you speak; you can either lead a man to فتنة or you can keep him in his place,
right, by how you speak to him. So be careful how you speak!
ول :33ة الح اهلي
حج ال ن تب جح ن ول تب
ن ف بيت And abide in your houses and do not.… وقرح
display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance….
The fact is not just for the واج زح طه رات أ م but for all women it is essential that they make their homes
their real centres. What this أ ة means basically; here the women are being discouraged from being
out in the public in the eyes of people, going around in busy areas unnecessarily. This doesn’t mean
that a woman must remain inside her house always and all the time, no, she may go, but when she
does go, she should not go out dressed in a way that she is dressed in her house, you understand?
This doesn’t mean that a woman is not allowed to go outside, she can go. But she should not go out
in a way that she draws attention to herself, how? By dressing up in a particular way or by speaking,
by carrying herself in a particular way, No, she should refrain from تب ج.
What is تب ج ?تب ج is from ج ج and ربح is a tower, all right? Now when you go, when you drive into a ربح
new city before you even enter the city, what do you see from far? Do you see where the Down
Town is? Why is it that you recognise instantly where the Down Town is, why? Because you see
the towers, right? So from far, the towers, the buildings are noticeable. This is تب ج that a woman
displays her adornment openly, highlighting herself, bringing attention to herself that her makeup,
her hair, her clothes, her shoes, her fragrance, everything is drawing attention to her. And remember
is not just in the physical sense, meaning how a woman dresses up but it is also in her style of تب ج
walking, in her style of carrying herself, even her talking! All right! And her interacting with others,
it should not be such that it draws attention because sometimes it happens the women are covered
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 6 ربنا تقبل منا
from head to toe, all right, big جلحباب, everything! But the way the arms are you know hanging and
the way they are talking to each other, and being so frank in the open and slapping each other, you
know like on the shoulders and giggling out in the open. I mean this is also something that draws
attention.
So remember, it is all about your attitude, right? It is not about a physical cloth only. Yes, the cloth
is important, the حاب is important but in addition to that we also need to see how we carry ourselves
out in a public, are we drawing unnecessary attention?
Like, for example is a woman is constantly on the phone talking so loudly and giggling, I mean, of
course people are going to wonder what is she talking about, forget a woman, any person, isn’t it?
Even if it’s a man! Even if it’s a man, if they’re talking like that then everybody is going to be, you
know, everyone’s attention is going to go towards them. So a woman has to be careful, especially
when it comes to this matter.
Likewise for her to come in a public eye when she has adorned herself is also something incorrect
because Allah says: ن جح ول تب
Don’t do تب ج! and for this تب ج you don’t really need to step outside of your house these days, you
don’t have to go into the mall these days, you don’t have to go and work in a TV station, or like a TV
show or something like that, no, all you need to do is take a photo and put it online, right? This can
be done even from your phone! تب ج can be done through your phone today, even through your
phone! So we have to be careful that whatever we are doing, are we displaying our adornment in a
way that we are attracting attention? Right?
This doesn’t mean that a woman has to be covered up and she has to like, you know, become
unknown in society, no! You can be known, you can be well-known, your name can be famous,
people can benefit from the good that you have to offer. But it doesn’t mean that you do it in a way
that Allah disapproves of. Do not cross the limits.
Tell me Aisha رضي هللا عنه was she famous? Of course! Did people come to her, asking her
questions? Seeking knowledge from her? Yes, but do we learn that she is sitting outside, you know,
on top of a ب and all the men are sitting in front of her and this is how she is teaching? Did she do منح
that? No, she didn’t, she didn’t do that! Why? Because for a woman, remember, she can bring
benefit to the community even while observing these كم يتعال و سبحانه that Allah أ حح has revealed for
her. Because when a woman puts herself out there, when she displays her adornment, her
beautification, highlighting herself outside in the public eye, then what happens? She is inviting فتنة for herself. I mean you don’t know how people are looking at you, you don’t know what they are
thinking of you, you really don’t know! So its best that you protect yourself.
And notice over here what has been mentioned that refrain from the تب ج of the former times, of the
times of جاهلي ة, meaning the time before Islam. Remember Allah does not like تب ج of women, He
does not like it when a woman displays herself.
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن

1The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“Do not ask about the destruction of three types of people- a woman whose husband is absent taking
care of all her worldly needs and she displays her adornment behind him….”
Meaning that her husband is not around, all right? So what happens? She goes around outside
displaying her adornment, right? She’s taking advantage of that seeking attention of other people,
seeking attention of other men!
You see this is a فتنة for women, all right? Men, what is their فتنة? Their sexual desire! And what is
women’s فتنة? What is women’s فتنة? Being noticed, right, adorning themselves, displaying their
beauty. I mean it’s amazing you go to any party just look at the length to which women will beautify
themselves, isn’t it amazing? How long does it take guys to get dressed up? How long? Not very
long, all they need to do is just put their clothes on and خالص! Maximum put a watch on, put some
cufflinks on, put a tie on, that’s it! Right? But for women, ين every part of the body! From the
eyelashes to the eyebrows, to above the eyelid, and the cheeks and ين every part of the body! This
is a test for women, you understand? It’s not حرام, it’s just a test that how do you fulfil this need of
yours in a lawful way, how do you do that, this is the test! And we see very, very few women who
do تب ج will make it to paradise.
2The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, in a حدث we learn, in Musnad Ahmad, that once Umarah Bin Khuzaimah, he
said that:
“We were in a journey we were travelling for Hajj or Umrah with هللا عنهرضي and when عمرو بن العاص
we reached a place near مة which is مر الظهران, a woman was sitting on her camel and her hand was
on the saddle…. her hands were where? On the saddle….and عمرو بن العاص رضي هللا عنه, he changed
his direction and he went another way, so we went along with him. And he said that, “Once we were
with the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص here, in the same place, when we saw a few crows in which was a white crow
also whose beak and feet were red… so imagine black crows and in them is a crow that is all white
and just the feet and the beak are what? They’re red….
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said: “In جن ة only such women will enter, who are like this crow amongst this
flock of crows.””
Meaning very few, very few, rare, because majority of the women, they fall in this فتنة don’t they?
Many of us do, that even while wearing the حاب, what happens to us? We forget our etiquette when
we are in front of men, the way we talk, the way we laugh and the way we chat with them as if
they’re full محرم, what happens, why do we forget these things?

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“None that in جنة only such women will enter who are like this crow amongst this flock of crows.”
Meaning very few.
Hasan Al-Basri, he said, that lady who was sitting because of whom عمرو بن العاص changed his
direction, she had in both her hands rings and adornment…meaning her hands were decorated, all
right?.... And she had put both her hands out.
So you can imagine, like nails with paint and rings and henna and whatsoever and then of course,
they are deliberately being shown and then they are displayed outside. And this is what? تب ج. “That, here my hands are decked out, that’s all I can show, so here you go!” Right? This is sad that I
mean we are wearing the حاب and the part that is exposed, we highlight that even more! Then we are
doing more تب ج, you understand? Because if everything is covered and the only part which is being
shown is highlighted, is decorated even more, then what is that going to do? It’s going to attract even
more attention.
So remember that زنة has to be covered instead of being displayed in front of men. We have to be
very careful about this, so when a woman has to go to a public place, then what is it that she has to
do? She has to cover her زنة. I mean the حادث I .زنة they don’t tell us that a woman has to leave ,أ
mean Aisha (ra), she is going with the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص on a journey and that journey, the حصابة are going
to fight a battle and Aisha (ra) what does she take with herself? A necklace! I mean seriously, how
often do we wear necklaces under our حاب? Like honestly, it’s rare, right? Because it gets stuck in
the حاب and everything, I mean, generally we like to take these things off when we have to have our
on for the whole day, correct? But Imagine Aisha (ra) is going on a journey and she is حاب
borrowing a necklace so that she looks nice. This is something natural within women, natural! But
when you do go out in a public place, when you are coming in the attention of men, they have to
look at you because it’s something that is understood, then a woman must adopt simplicity over
there, not by abandoning her زنة but by concealing her زنة.
….And establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger….
The wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص are being addressed over here that: give zakah and obey Allah and
His Messenger
Meaning just because he is your husband, don’t forget to treat him as a prophet as well, he is after all
the messenger of Allah. So whatever he commands you as a prophet then make sure you obey him.
…. Allah intends only to remove from you the impurity [of sin], O people of the [Prophet's]
household, and to purify you with [extensive] purification.
Why were all these commands given? To oppress the best women? To not let them come to the
forefront, to prevent their advancement, their progress? No way! I mean we see Aisha (ra) who
doesn’t know her name, which Muslim doesn’t know her name? Like seriously! Hafsa (ra), which
Muslim doesn’t know her name? I mean this is something that is understood. The wives of the
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 9 ربنا تقبل منا
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, they are well respected for their contribution, for their knowledge, for their sacrifices
for whatever they did, they are appreciated, they are well-known. But they did not offer their
services by compromising on their حياء, no they did not. And this is something we need to remember.
Because you see for a woman, to display herself, تب ج, this is something that attracts attention
immediately, like within seconds, within seconds! You put a picture of a beautiful woman on a front
cover page, on a front cover page of a magazine, right? Or for example your cover photo, right?
You just put that up, what happens? People will instantly click on it, “Who is this person, do I know
them?” Right? It happens. But if there is no picture, no face, then people have to look at, “Okay
what is this person saying, who are they, what are they even doing?” Then okay read what they
write, then check what they say. This is what really promoting the work and not the person, this is
what we need to think about.
Let’s not be concerned about promoting ourselves. We need to be concerned about promoting the
message of the دني. We need to become real contributors not by displaying ourselves but by
highlighting our work. By doing our work with excellence, this is what we need to do.
So over here we see, the reason that is given, that the مةح behind all of these commands is that Allah ح
wishes to keep the family of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص clean, He wishes to keep the wives of the Prophet
pure. Because you see when something is displayed, when it is freely publicized, then does it ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص
loose dignity also? Huh? It does. I mean think about it, have you ever seen those buses with
advertisement on them? Or maybe there is a place that we walk regularly, and there’s this huge
poster, all right, it’s a dentist basically, a huge poster of a person with a big smile and their teeth
showing. I mean from far it looks really nice but I’ve seen over the months and over the years, how
dirty that picture has become, right, how dirty it has become. And you look at these images, these
flyers for example, newspaper, what happens? Is it thrown around everywhere? Yes, people lose
respect for it.
So the fact is when something is freely publicized it loses its dignity, right? Why is it that certain
products when they are to be released not even an image is leaked out, is sent, is shown, why?
Eventually after months, then an image is released, then finally a product is displayed. Why is that
so? Because eyes even stain, remember, sight even stains, it does. This is why in جن ة there are
blessings that no eye has seen, no eye has seen.
So we see over here that the dirty eyes of men, they can set upon a woman and this can be a source
of ش for her, it’s a kind of a filth. So the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص are ordered over here to preserve
their dignity, how? By keeping themselves protected from the filthy eyes of men, cover yourself,
guard yourself, protect yourself in a way that the dirty eyes of men don’t even set upon you! And
especially if a woman goes out displaying herself then this is worse!

ل ف بيت ن ما تح كرح لطيفا خبريا واذح ….And remember
what is recited in your houses of the verses of Allah and wisdom. Indeed, Allah is ever Subtle
and Acquainted….
Meaning He is aware of all things, even the most hidden secrets. Even the most, you know, hidden
moments when a woman would display her beauty. Allah knows, Allah is watching, right? Like for
example, it’s possible that a woman is in a place where her father is not there, her husband’s not
there, her parents are not there, and she has a chance to do “ جتب ” and she does it. Now this is what?
Deceiving who? Ourselves! Because Allah is watching!
Remember when we wear the حاب we don't do it because of our men. We don't do it because of our
men! Yes, it might make them happy it might even make them angry, it happens; some men don't
like their wives to be covered up. They don't want that. So, we're not doing it to please our men
we're doing it to please who? Allah تعالى و سبحانه ! And when we are doing it in obedience to Allah,
then we need to do it whether we are online, right, or we are, you know, somewhere at school or at
work, no matter where we are. This is in obedience, in submission to Allah.
And over here, we see in this أ ة that Allah tells the women of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص that when you are at
home what should you do? What should do you?
“Remember what is recited in your houses of the verses of Allah”
Meaning recite the قرأ ن, learn the قرأ ن and wisdom; what is the wisdom? The teachings of the Prophet
!ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص
Because you see, earlier it was mentioned, “Remain in your houses.”
Now, for a woman, yes, her real center is her home because in order to look after the familial
obligations that are upon her, she has to be at home. But never ever misunderstand this and think
that this means a woman should be at home and serve her home, spending her life in homemaking
and hairstyling and clothes shopping and child rearing. These are all part of life. But, because of
them she must not forget the ر م ,علحم of Allah. She must not forget ذكحل ,learning, teaching ,تليم ,ت
مةحمة as well as the قرأ ن the ,ح
حة the ,ح
ن , the حدث, the رية . She has to keep all of these things alive
in her house.
How is a woman meant to keep the recitation of the قرأ ن, the mention of the teachings of the Prophet
alive in her house? How? By being engaged with it herself because if she's not engaged with it ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص
herself than what's going to happen? What's going to happen? She's going to forget to read the قرأ ن and will her children read the قرأ ن? No way! No way! Then she's so concerned about keeping her
house clean that she will put the T.V. on, right, so that the children are glued to the T.V. so that she
can get some work done. And within a few weeks the children are hooked to T.V. and when you

read the قرأ ن to them or when you want to open the قرأ ن before them they don't want it! They don't
want it at all! Why? Because the mother herself is disconnected from the ر !of Allah ذكح
You know what we have really misunderstood these verses. People go to extremes saying, “Oh,
these verses are only for the wives of the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and they've got nothing to do with us.” Or,
they go to another extreme that, “Look, women have to be at home. Women have to be at home. So
you know what, even when you go to learn قرأ ن or teach قرأ ن, you shouldn't be doing that.”
No, this is not what it means. We need to understand these أ يت by looking at the lives of the wives of
the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, what did they do? How did they implement these verses? You see ن كرح means اذح
remember it yourself and also mention it. What does ر mean? Remember yourself and also ذكح
mention. Make mention of it, right? So this means read the قرأ ن yourself, learn the teachings of the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص yourself in your house and also make them known. Meaning once you have learned,
then teach them on.
And Ayesha ريض هللا عنه, we see that she did not just retire to her home and just remained there
dressing up and all her time was spent in just dressing up or looking after her house. I mean, if the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص didn't allow a soft mattress in her house, what do you think was the state of that house?
What kind of a house was it? Decorated top to bottom? What happens to a woman when she stays in
her house for one week? Or if she's told your house is your priority, what will she do? There is not a
shelf; there is not a corner except that it is decorated with something, right? And then every day she
has to clean, every other day she has to look after things, right? Then one is broken, one needs to be
replaced, one she's bored of and then the money is going into this, her attention is going into this.
What is it that the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص did? What did they do with their lives? They taught
the قرأ ن and the ةن . They learnt it themselves and they taught it.
Hafsa ريض هللا عهنا, she had the حف حف Can you imagine, she had the honor of having the .مصح It's .مصح
known as the حف written and قرأ ن when he had the ,ريض هللا عنه because Umar ريض هللا عنه of Hafsa مصح
then copy sent to different parts of the Muslim world, the original copy was kept with
Hafsa ريض هللا عهنا. And then when Usman ريض هللا عنه became the خليفة, he borrowed the حف from مصح
Hafsa ريض هللا عهنا, had more copies of it made and then he sent them across the Muslim world. She had
the حف حف can you imagine? A lady! What does it mean then? She knew the ,مصح like other مصح
people did not; like men did not because if they knew it then they wouldn't ask her for the copy.
They wouldn't ask her for that copy if they knew it. So her level of knowledge of the book of Allah
was really greater than that of many men of that time.
Aisha ريض هللا عهنا, men would go to her to ask her matters of the دني.
So, for a woman, remember, you know for her to be a teacher; that is an excellent thing to do. It's
like the best profession. Why? Because this is something that she can do in every stage of her life,
in whatever situation she's in; single, married, pregnant, nursing, you know, three children, five
children, ten children, doesn't matter grandchildren, right? Moving, whatever job, no job, no matter
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 12 ربنا تقبل منا
what's going on in her life, for her to be connected with learning and teaching the دني, it's the best
thing to do.
And remember that teaching the دني, it's not just in a classroom; it can even be through writing. It
can even be on a one on one basis, online, through art, you know at social events social gatherings.
But this is something that women really need to think about because as women of the Muslim ة م ,أ
and remember the Muslim ة م طو ?what is our role ,أ ة م
ط We are the connection, the link, the - أ و between people and Allah. Meaning if they want to reach Allah, if they want to know what واطة
Allah likes, they have to know about that through us.
And what is it that we have? The قرأ ن! But if we don't give the قرأ ن to people, then how are they
going to know? So never think that as a Muslim woman your obligation is just to stay at home and
dress up and cook and clean and sleep. No, that is all part of life. But in addition to that: مة حح وال ن مح أ يت هللا
ل ف بيت ن ما تح كرح واذح
You know if any woman had the right to just take it easy, it would have been the wives of the
Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), right? Because they were told, “You stay at home” So, for a woman who's told stay
at home; and Ayesha ريض هللا عهنا had no children, Hafsa ريض هللا عهنا, no children, right? So imagine
women with no children, they’re at home. What do you think a woman like this would do? What do
you think she would do? Where would her time go? In social events, into sitting with her friends, in
dressing up, in making clothes, in doing one thing after the other like this? But we see that their lives
were spent in this: مةحح وال ن مح أ يت هللا

The حصابة said, “Ya رل هللا who are the دون ”?مفر
He said “They are those men and women who remember Allah much.”
Meaning they are really at the forefront. They've really gone ahead. They've left everyone behind.
Who? Those who remember Allah much; the men and the women.
And remember that every good deed whether it is صالة or it is fasting or it is جح, any good deed, when
it is done with the ر of Allah, then remember that action becomes the best action. It becomes the ذكح

36: It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have
decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair….
Meaning when the حمكح of Allah comes then the believing men and the believing women, they don't
do whatever they please. What do they do? They change themselves according to the command of
Allah and the command of the Messenger ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. They change themselves. They try their best to
make sure that their معل, their actions conform to the حمكح of Allah, they conform to the حمكح of the
Messenger ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. That they match, you understand? That the actions, they actually match the

command, they actually go along with each other, not that the command is one thing and the
practical demonstration, the practical implementation of that is completely different.
Has it ever happened that you give someone instructions and then they do the exact opposite of that
or something completely different, completely different, right? And then what happens? You get
really upset that, “This is not what I told you to do.” But they're trying to apparently obey you and
listen to you and follow the instructions but they're not really following instructions.
So a believing man a believing woman, what do they do? They put their desires aside; they put their
wishes, their likes, their dislikes aside when the command of Allah comes, when the command of the
Messenger comes.
….And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.
37: And remember, O Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), when you said to the one on whom Allah bestowed
favour….
Who is this? Zaid ريض هللا عنه
Zaid ريض هللا عنه, Allah تعالى و سبحانه bestowed a huge favor upon him. How? That when he was
captured as a slave as a little boy, he was bought and he was given as a gift to Khadija ريض هللا عهنا. And then Khadija ريض هللا عهنا, when she married the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, she gave Zaid ريض هللا عنه as a gift to
eventually what happened? He set him free and he ,ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص And then the Prophet .رل هللا ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص
declared him to be his son and this was when Zaid ريض هللا عنه’s family found him and they came
requesting the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, “Whatever price you ask us, we’ll give it to you. Please give us our son
back.” And the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said, “That is the decision of Zaid, if he wants to stay with me, he can
stay with me, and if you'd like to take him, he's your son. I don't want any money.” But what
happened? Zaid ريض هللا عنه chose the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. He chose slavery over freedom. And this is
before Prophet Hood. This is before Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص received revelation.
Can you imagine the character of رل هللا ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص that a child is choosing to be his slave than to go
home as a prince. As a prince! No! He wants to remain with the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. So when this
happened, the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he took Zaid by the hand, he went to the كبة and he said, “O people!
Know that from now on, Zaid is Zaid bin Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.” Meaning that he's now my adopted son,
he's like my son.
And you know the حصابة they said that, “We didn't even know that Zaid ريض هللا عنه was not actually
Zaid bin Mohammed. We didn't know that until these أ يت were revealed” Until verses revealed in
.declaring that your adopted sons are not your real sons رة ال حزاب
So many حصابة thought that Zaid ريض هللا عنه was actually the son of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص because the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص never treated him differently; he treated him like his own. So this is what? Allah’s
favor on Zaid ريض هللا عنه and the favor of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص on him also because how often is it that we
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 15 ربنا تقبل منا
come across people who are so generous to us, so kind and so loving and so caring that they treat us
like their own? How often would you come across people like that? Rarely! And then especially
the great favor of Islam.
So remember when you said to him:
…."Keep your wife and fear Allah,"….
Because the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص had Zaid ريض هللا عنه marry, who? Zainab عهناريض هللا , and who was Zainab
عهنا ريض هللا ? The cousin of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. And this was in an attempt to really show honor to Zaid
that nobody think of him as a slave, freed slave. No! He is of me. Look! His status is so ريض هللا عنه
high near me that he is now marrying a قريیش” A قريیش woman, a woman of such high status.
So this marriage happened. However, they couldn't get along with each other and this is something
that happens it’s something perfectly fine. It happens that a wife, she does not like her husband, it’s
possible, or a husband just does not like his wife, it's possible. It doesn't mean that both have to be
evil or one has to be evil because whenever a divorce happens we always ask, ‘Whose fault was it?
Whose fault was it?’ No, it's not necessary that it was anybody's fault. It's quite possible that both of
them are really good individuals but they just don't get along with each other. And when is it that
they find out? Maybe five years after marriage, maybe ten years after marriage, it's possible. Maybe
after two children, maybe after three children, it is possible. And it is possible for a couple to say,
“Okay we don't get along with each other but still we’ll stay together for the sake of the children, for
the family.” But sometimes even that becomes difficult.
So we see over here that Zaid عهناريض هللا and Zainab عهناريض هللا , they couldn't get along with each
other and the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص had a feeling and that was that if Zaid would divorce his wife then
Allah تعالىو سبحانه is going to order the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص to marry Zainab. Why? This was really to
further clarify and emphasize the fact that an adopted son is not a real son. Because in Arabs, the
problem was that an adopted son was considered like a real son. So just like the divorced wife of
your real son you cannot marry, likewise, the divorced wife of your adopted son, you cannot marry.
Now, the حمكح was revealed at the beginning of the رة that your adopted sons are not your real sons.
But what happens? Many times people know what the قرأ ن says, what is in Islam, but are they
willing to bring about the change in their lives? Are they? No, they're not. It's very hard. So,
likewise, this was very hard for that community.
So Allah تعالى و سبحانه wanted to clarify and emphasize this fact that look your adopted sons are not
your real sons and for that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص‘s family has been chosen to demonstrate to you and the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was naturally afraid. He was afraid about the backlash, about what the people were
going to say. So, Allah said “You said to him…
…. keep your wife and fear Allah, while you concealed within yourself that which Allah is to
disclose….
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 16 ربنا تقبل منا
You tried to conceal it but Allah was going to expose it, He was going to establish it, He was going
to bring this about. And so many times it happens that you're trying your best to conceal something
but it doesn't remain concealed. Allah opens it up.
…And you feared the people, while Allah has more right that you fear Him. So when Zayd
had no longer any need for her….
Meaning there is nothing to keep them married now, there is nothing to keep that marriage together
anymore.
….We married her to you….
Meaning Zainab عهناريض هللا was married to who? The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and this نكح happened where? In
the skies above and this is something that Zainab عهناريض هللا would boast about to all the women that
look my نكح happened up there. Why was this done?
…. in order that there not be upon the believers any discomfort concerning the wives of their
adopted sons when they no longer have need of them….
Meaning if the divorce happens, then the divorced wife of the adopted son she's a complete Non-
Mahram, right? And a man may marry her of course through the proper نكح.
…And ever is the command of Allah accomplished.
What's the lesson in this? Many lessons, but the main thing that we see here is that many times there
are certain customs, certain traditions, certain practices that are so deeply rooted in a society and
which clearly contradict the كتاب and ن ة, the قرأ ن and ن ة, and to clarify them it's not necessary to
just speak against them or to speak about them. It's necessary that these customs, these practices are
abolished. How? Through actions; meaning through a practical demonstration.
Like for example, marriages are they extremely, extremely, extravagant now? They have become
more and more extravagant. So much so that the people who know the قرأ ن and ن ة what happens to
them? What happens to a girl who knows about the importance of حاب, what happens on her
wedding day? Where does her حاب go? Where does it go?
A woman who knows about five prayers, the importance of them, what happens on her wedding day?
All of these things are put aside. So somebody has to take a stand, somebody has to, and the one who
has to take a stand, who will set an example for other people, yes they will hear a lot, they will bear a
lot of criticism, a lot of criticism, and yes, you are afraid of people, but what does Allah say?
….Allah has more right that you fear Him.
38: There is not to be upon the Prophet any discomfort concerning that which Allah has
imposed upon him. [This is] the established way of Allah with those [prophets] who have
passed on before. And ever is the command of Allah a destiny decreed.
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن

Meaning it's obligatory, it’s unavoidable. The prophets of Allah, who were they?

Allah. And sufficient is Allah as Accountant.
You see the داىع, the one who's calling people to Allah, he himself has to practically demonstrate the
.of Allah in order to show right from wrong. He doesn't just have to speak out against the wrong حمكح
He has to practically demonstrate; this is right and this is wrong, this is correct and this is incorrect.
And this is a very delicate situation because on the one hand is the حمكح of Allah and on the other
hand are the entire people. It's almost frightening that what are the people going to say. What are
they going to say? But remember, you have to do what Allah has ordered because Allah is going to
take حسيبا - حساب وكف بهلل
We should be afraid of the حساب that Allah is going to take, not the حساب that people are going to
take.
40: Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of
Allah and last of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing.
What does this أ ة show to us? After Mohammed ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص how many prophets are coming? How many
messengers are coming? None! And is the قرأ ن clear on this? Very clear on this! So a person should
not be deceived by anybody who claims to be a prophet. No matter what kind of justification and
beautiful stories and dreams they come up with, no. If anybody claims to be a prophet after
Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, are they a prophet? No, they are not a prophet.
4The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“The Bani Israel were ruled over by the prophets. When one prophet died, another succeeded him
but after me there is no prophet and there will be خلفاء (caliphs) and they will be many in number.”
Meaning there'll be many leaders who will come but they'll be leaders. Many leaders, one after the
other, but they're not going to be prophets, they're not going to receive divine inspiration. They're not
going to be such أ ئة, an امام which receives وح, no. Nor are they going to be prophets and
messengers; only people. But despite that people claimed Prophethood. And this happened even at
the time of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

There was a man, مسيلمة, all right? And he came to the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص in the year of the delegations
which was after the conquest of مة before the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص passed away and this man; he came and
he said, “You know what, O Mohammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, you promise me that after you die, I will inherit you”.
….meaning I will be your heir in leadership, all right? …And if you do that then you know what I'll
believe in you and we will join you.” And the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص went to him and he had with him a stick
and he said that, “If you were to ask me of this even, I wouldn't give it to you, I wouldn't give it to
you.”
Why? Because it's not about me or you, it's about حق, it's about حق. And what happened? This man
Musailamah he claimed to be a prophet. And he was known as ‘ابذ لمة الح .Musailamah the liar ’مسيح
5And the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“There will be, among my people, thirty great liars, each of them asserting that he is Allah’s prophet,
whereas I am the seal of the prophets, after whom there will be no prophet”
So is the قرأ ن clear is the ن ة clear on this? Very clear! So if anyone claims to be a prophet, a رل after Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص then who is he? A liar! And remember, thirty such liars they will come.
Thirty liars will come. Many have come, and perhaps many are still yet to come.
Remember that this is a matter of عقيدة, all right. This is a matter of عقيدة and our eternal life
depends on this belief. Rejecting a true prophet, is that a crime? Yes, it is. And confirming a liar;
even that is a crime near Allah. So we have to confirm the true prophet and reject the false prophet.
This is of the basic pillars of our religion.

And why isn't it that you would do ذکر much ذکر? Because:
43: It is He who confers blessing upon you, and His angels [ask Him to do so] that He may
bring you out from darknesses into the light. And ever is He, to the believers, Merciful.
44: Their greeting the Day they meet Him will be, "Peace." And He has prepared for them a
noble reward.

47: And give good tidings to the believers that they will have from Allah great bounty.
48: And do not obey the disbelievers….
Who are the disbelievers? Those who don't even believe in you, who don't even believe in the قرأ ن, those who come and attack you from the front; don't listen to them!
….and also do not listen to the hypocrites….
Don't obey them! Who are the hypocrites? Those who are apparently with you but they attack you
from behind you. Do not listen to them!
ذاهح ي اذ And leave their - ودعح أ . This means:

But the stronger meaning over here is that do not care, leave- meaning, do not care about the hurt

….and rely upon Allah. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.

You see -a believer, who is he? A believer is the one who surrenders, who submits to the commands
of Allah. And who is it that opposes the commands of Allah, verbally and physically, who? Either
that person is a disbeliever or he is a hypocrite. You understand? Because a believer, he will not
oppose the Messenger ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. A person who criticizes, who objects at the commands of Allah, who
opposes them either verbally or physically, then he is not in the ranks of the believers. He is not
there.
49: O You who have believed, when you marry believing women and then divorce them
before you have touched them….
Meaning before the marriage was consummated.
….then there is not for you any waiting period to count concerning them….
Meaning then for that woman there is no ة عد
….So provide for them and give them a gracious release.
And now in the following ةأ , the marriages of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص are mentioned.
Remember that the marriages of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص they were very unique; they were all very
different. The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he was married to Khadija عهناريض هللا and as long as he was married to
her, he married no other woman. No other woman! And what happened after the death of Khadija
children were young and the responsibility was huge, he was ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص when the Prophet عهناريض هللا
advised to marry Sawdah عهناريض هللا and he married her. And then the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص also married
Aisha عهناريض هللا after that.
And then we learn that when the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص did هجرة to Medina, what happened? There was battle
after battle and there were women in that society who were now left without families. And you see
the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص when he did هجرة to Medina he didn't just say, ‘Oh! We're supposed to be helping
each other.’ No! He established a bond of brotherhood between the حصابة. Brotherhood between the
So what about the women now who were left alone with their children? Who's going to !حصابة
support them? Who's going to take care of them?
We learn that Hafsa عهناريض هللا , her husband died in one of the early battles and so her father Umar
he was worried about his young daughter. He went to Abu Bakr, he went to ,ريض هللا عنه
s wife’ريض هللا عنه and he said, “Why don’t you marry my daughter?” because Usman عامثن ريض هللا عنه
had passed away recently (The daughter of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص). He said, “Why don't you marry? He
said, “I'll think about it.” He went to Abu Bakr ريض هللا عنه and he said, “I'll think about it.”
Now you see how Umar ريض هللا عنه is taking the proposal. "Can you marry my daughter? Can you
marry my daughter? I'm worried about her." She's deeply grieved. Who married her? The Prophet
.married her ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 23 ربنا تقبل منا
Umm Salama, her husband was killed also in one of the early battles. Who married her? The
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص married her.
And this was basically setting an example that look! Just because a woman is widowed, she was
previously married, doesn't mean that she has to be treated like an outcast.
And sadly this is something that has become very common in our cultures. A woman, a girl who
never married previously; perhaps she was engaged once upon a time and now she's maybe 26, what
happens people say? Old! O really? How's she old? I mean girls who are 24 years age, what happens
to them? They're concerned, “Nobody's going to marry me. Nobody's going to marry me. I'm
getting older and older year after year.” And what happens to girls who are divorced or who are
widowed? What about them? What about them?
You see marriage is not just about you know, ‘Sexual desire,’ it's about intimacy. It's about having a
close companion. It's about finding comfort and closeness because human beings- we need each
other. We need that close bond. We need it.
So we see the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص married all of these women. Why? To set an example that these women,
they are part of our society, they must not be treated as an outcast and look at the value they can
bring. Look at the value that Umm Salama brought, that Sawdah عهنا ريض هللا brought, that all of the
wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص brought.
And then we learned that later on when the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص married, For example, Javeria عهناريض هللا ,
Safiyya عهناريض هللا , these were women who were brought in as captives but once the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص
married them, what happened to all of their relatives? The حصابة, they set them free that how can we
keep the in laws of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص as our servants? No way! Not at all!
So you see how much benefit they brought and when these women, because Javeria عهناريض هللا for
example, she was a princess, all right! And she was given the choice if you wish you can marry,
right! And if you wish you can remain as you are, it's up to you. She chose to be the wife of the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. She was given the offer; she chose that position. And when she was married to the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and what happened? Her entire tribe converted because of her. Entire tribe converted!
Umm Habibah عهناريض هللا , she was the daughter of Abu Sufyan. You can imagine when Abu Sufyan's
daughter is in the house of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص would you think you would have enmity for
ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص رل هللا now? Right! And remember that out of all the leaders of ةم Abu Sufyan was like the
only one main leader that remained. Abu Jahl had died, Abu Lahab had died, all these big, big
figureheads finished. Abu Sufyan was like the main leader left. So his daughter in the house of
ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص رل هللا , what does it mean? So, anyway, this is not really the time to go into the marriages of
the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, but the point is that just as the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص were different, right?
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص’s marriage was also a different case completely. We cannot look at it as, like for
example, an ordinary man marrying so many women. This was for a reason! All of these marriages
were for a reason!
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 24 ربنا تقبل منا
So:
50: O Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, indeed We have made lawful to you your wives to whom you have given
their due compensation…
Meaning their مهر, even the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص had to give مهر. So what do you think about other men?
They don't need to give مهر? They do!
….and those your right hands possesses from what Allah has returned to you [of captives] and
the daughters of your paternal uncles and the daughters of your paternal aunts and the
daughters of your maternal uncles and the daughters of your maternal aunts who emigrated
with you and a believing woman if she gives herself to the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص [and] if the Prophet
wishes to marry her, [this is] only for you, excluding the [other] believers....
So no person can say, “O, since I'm the leader also I can have ten wives.”
I mean it's amazing how some people in the name of دني (And these are Muslims by the way) in the
name of دني, they will have 15 - 20 wives. These are true! This is true! 15 - 20 wives! Even the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص did not have that many when he was ordered, by Allah, what do you think of yourself?
…. This is only for you excluding the [other] believers. We certainly know what We have made
obligatory upon them concerning their wives and those their right hands possess, [but this is
for you] in order that there will be upon you no discomfort. And ever is Allah Forgiving and
Merciful.
So why was this exception made for the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص? In fact, it was not an exception; it was a
command for him. Why? Because he had a very different role to play, he was the one who was sent
to establish the دني.
51: You, [O Prophet], may put aside whom you will of them or take to yourself whom you
will….
Meaning for a regular man, he must, must be fair with all of his wives. Correct? Right!
But the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he was given the choice that if you are not 100% fair with your wives It's ok
for you. Why? Because he didn't marry them for his own personal reasons, He married them into the
obedience to Allah تعالى و سبحانه and he had a very big responsibility on his shoulders.
…. And any that you desire of those [wives] from whom you had [temporarily] separated -
there is no blame upon you [in returning her]. That is more suitable that they should be
content and not grieve and that they should be satisfied with what you have given them - all of
them. And Allah knows what is in your hearts. And ever is Allah Knowing and Forbearing.
You see the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, an amazing servant he was! Even though, he was given this choice, was
he unfair with his wives? Never! He was not unfair to his wives. So much so, that in the last days of
the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص‘s life, what happened? Still he was going house to house every day, why? To
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 25 ربنا تقبل منا
spend time with each wife! To give her, her day! All right! The time that she deserves, the attention
that she deserves! And the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, by the way when he would go to his wives, to the house, he
wouldn't just sit there and be served that, “Today I'm going to enjoy in this house and tomorrow in
another house.” No!
Ayesha ريض هللا عهنا has said that: “The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص used to be in the service of his family”.
Meaning he would go and serve his family. He would go and help them do the work of the house for
the family, help them out. So Imagine in the last days of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص‘s life he was going from
house to house. And then eventually, when his condition became really severe, he asked them, “Do
you allow me to just stay in the house of Aisha until I get better?” And they allowed.
I mean this shows that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he was truly a very obedient servant of Allah who did not
forget to do ا حسان, who did not forget ا حسان
52: Not lawful to you, [O Muhammad], are [any additional] women after [this]….
Meaning every wife, the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص married was in obedience to Allah and now, other than that,
no more!
…. nor [is it] for you to exchange them for [other] wives, even if their beauty were to please
you….
I mean the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, his heart was pure, right? But, here what is made clear is that these are the
wives that are chosen for you. You cannot replace them. You cannot leave them. You cannot take
anyone in their place.
….except what your right hand possesses. And ever is Allah, over all things, an Observer.
53: O you who have believed, do not enter the houses of the Prophet except when you are
permitted for a meal, without awaiting its readiness….
Meaning, don’t go to his house unless you are invited to come. And when you are invited to eat
don't go so early waiting to be served.
And this is extreme disrespect that a person goes to another's house without invitation at a time when
that person has to eat. Like for example, half an hour before فطار Why would you go to somebody's .ا
house? Why? Like seriously, unless you have been invited, yeah that makes sense but otherwise it
does not make sense at all!
…. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, disperse without seeking to
remain for conversation….
I like this!
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 26 ربنا تقبل منا
What happens generally? “Ok now we’ve eaten, now let's sip on our tea, and yes, we know you have
the kitchen aftermath to take care of but we don't care about that because we would like to socialize
with you and talk to you.” Right!
And what happens? People leave after several hours and then the host by then, what happens to
them? I mean the poor woman, especially. The poor woman especially! The children are exhausted,
exhausted! It's way past their bedtime. And the poor woman has to stand in the kitchen, clear up
everything, right? This is ظلم.
This is تعالىو سبحانه from Allah حکم that once you have eaten then leave. Don't stay for conversation.
Do not stay!
….Indeed, that [behavior] was troubling the Prophet….
And it's troubling to any host!
….and he is shy of [dismissing] you….
He feels shy to tell you, “When are you gonna go?” Just like any, any good host wouldn't say that.
….But Allah is not shy of the truth. And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them
from behind a partition…
Meaning, when you have to go and ask the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص about something and the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is not there then you don't just go inside the house. No! How is it that you
communicate with the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص? From behind a partition that is purer for you:
….That is purer for your hearts and their hearts….
Underline this!
This is the reason for حاب. What is a reason for حاب? It is purer for the men and purer for women.
….And it is not [conceivable] for you to harm the Messenger of Allah or to marry his wives
after him, ever. Indeed, that would be in the sight of Allah an enormity.
10
Anas ريض هللا عنه said that I used to serve the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and I used to go in his house without
permission. Because remember he was only 10 years old when he was brought, right? And he was
like the part of the family so he would go in and out without permission. One day I came and the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“ نحت ي بين ”كما أ
Stop where you are. O my son! A ”!came after you. So now, do not come in without permission
Meaning, when you have to come into my house, right? Then you have to come in how? After
permission has been granted to you!
Then, we also learn over here that حصابة are instructed when you have to talk to the wives of the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, how should you do that? From behind a curtain; meaning, don't go inside the house!
Which means that a man and woman who are Non-Mahram to each other should they be alone? No,
they should not be alone.
11
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
"Beware of entering upon the women….
Meaning, when they are alone, are in their houses
…Beware of entering upon them. A man from النصار said, “ رل هللا یا what about the .… محح
Meaning, the brother of her husband or his nephew, right?
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص replied, ”he is death ,مت is the محح
Meaning, if he starts to come to his brother's house while he is not there, spending time with his wife
then what's going to happen? Death to that marriage! Death to that marriage, it will happen.
You see شيطان runs in the blood of men, doesn't he? And I mean men as in people. Not only men in
exclusion to women. No! شيطان is busy actively trying all of the time in order to lead a person
astray. So just think about it what runs in your blood doesn't it reach your heart? It does, right? So
do you think he's going to let your heart stay clean? Is he? He is not going to let your heart , شيطان
stay clean. So what do you have to do? Close that window that leads to حرام. Close that door that
leads to حرام. Close it! Seal it! And for that reason حاب has been taught over here.
12
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص once stood on the pulpit, on the منب and he said:
"After this day no man should enter the house of another person in his absence….
[Meaning go in his house while he is not there and talk to his wife]
….but only when he is accompanied by one person or two persons”.
Meaning, alone you should not go. Two - three ok, that's fine. This doesn't mean the three men
should go. No! Meaning, there should be somebody with him or there should be somebody with
her.
Now if this is needed for the purity of the heart of the حصابة and ازواج مطهرات then what about the rest
of us? How can we think that it is correct to sit with a Non-Mahram man and joke with him?
Casually converse with every passing man and talk to every passing man as he is going. No, this is
خول على النساء ف قال رجل من األنص أن 11 ار يا رسول الله أف رأيت المو رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال إياكم والد [ 2323:البخاریصحيح ]…قال المو الموت

not appropriate. We have to be very careful, very careful! Because remember that one casual
comment conversation it can lead to a lot of فتنة.
So over here doors have been closed that lead to wrong doing. All right! And many times it happens
that women say, “Oh! I am married.” And a man says, “Oh! I am married.” Even then you still have
a heart and شيطان is still in your blood, right?
So it doesn't matter what your marital status is, what your age is, what place you are in; when it
comes to a man, a Non-Mahram man, we have to be careful.
54: Whether you reveal a thing or conceal it, indeed Allah is ever, of all things, Knowing.
55: There is no blame upon women concerning their fathers or their sons or their brothers or
their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or their women or those their right hands possess….
Meaning they can come in their houses.
….And fear Allah. Indeed Allah is ever, over all things, Witness.
So the purpose of حاب is what? طهارة of the eyes and طهارة of the heart.

on this I prostrated to Allah in gratitude.”
17
The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) also said that:

57: Indeed, those who abuse Allah and His Messenger - Allah has cursed them in this world
and the Hereafter and prepared for them a humiliating punishment.
58: And those who harm believing men and believing women for [something] other than
what they have earned….
Meaning while the believers are innocent
….They have certainly borne upon themselves a slander and manifest sin.
It's a crime to hurt, to harass believers. It's a crime. It's a punishable sin.
We learned that once the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he narrated a حدث in which severe punishment is described
that how people will be taken from one punishment to another, to another punishment and various
forms of punishment. And they'll be asked that, “Are you being hurt because of this?” … Does it
hurt you?... And they will say, “Yes.” And they will be told, “This is because you used to hurt the
believers.”
Hurting the believers, harassing them is something that should be avoided at every cost.

tell your wives and your daughters and the.… قل ل
women of the believers.…
So the حکم is for who? Just the wives of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص? Who? All believing women!
….to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments.
Meaning, the outer garment, meaning, the cloth that is worn as a حاب, as a shawl, as a جلباب, it
should be used for what? That they should bring it down over themselves. Meaning they should
take a part of it and bring it down. Why? Meaning, wearing a حاب or a shawl alone is not sufficient.
Women must drop part of it, part of it on that portion which is exposed, which is uncovered and what
is that part which is still exposed after wearing the حاب? Hmmm? The chest! The chest we learned
about in رة النر. When you wear the حاب what is still exposed? Face, right? So either they should
draw it down from above. Meaning at least the little bit or they should take it from the side and at
least put something on the part which is exposed, meaning, they should not leave it bare and fully
exposed. Fully exposed, they should not leave it fully exposed.
This doesn't mean that a woman always, all the time has to cover like this (…..) but, ين a portion of
it at least depending on the situation. I mean if you're standing in front of man at least take a little bit
and cover. Not that the full face is being highlighted, being shown. This is something that is not
appropriate because when the entire face is being exposed, it's being…. think about it, it's more
highlighted, right? So they should not expose it fully. At least part of it, they should cover.
.…That is more suitable that they will be known….
Known, recognized as believing women! As chaste and modest women who are not free for
pleasure!
.…and they will not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
You see covering the face even partially, even partially, even a little bit, even if you take a little bit
of your حاب and put it like this; you know where you cover your chin. All right! And you make sure
that the sides like for example your cheeks are covered. Or that you're standing in front of a man and
as you go, you take a little bit and you cover even a little bit, what message does it give? I'm not for
you, not even a little bit. I'm not for you, not even a little bit. It's like literally sending a message that
there is a barrier between me and you. Right! This is what the message of the حاب!
Umar ريض هللا عنه, he used to request the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص that all types of people come to your house so
you should tell your wives to cover and Allah تعالى و سبحانه revealed these أ يت in confirmation of
Umar ريض هللا عنه’s wish that yes! Because really when you go outside especially there is all types of
men, isn’t it? All types of men. You don’t know who is looking at you how.
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 31 ربنا تقبل منا
May Allah protect you from hearing their thoughts! Really, may Allah protect you from hearing
their thoughts but men, their thoughts can be very, very vulgar. They don't always say it but it's
going on in their heads. It's going on.
So especially when the face is completely exposed, ين this is something that is inviting trouble. So
depending on where a woman is, who she's in front of, at least a portion, she should cover because
otherwise she would be clearly contradicting the حکم of Allah.
60: If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease and those who spread rumors in al-
Madinah do not cease, We will surely incite you against them; then they will not remain your
neighbours therein except for a little.
61: Accursed wherever they are found, [being] seized and massacred completely.
62: [This is] the established way of Allah with those who passed on before; and you will not
find in the way of Allah any change.
Here the hypocrites, they are being warned! Troublemakers in society, they are being warned that
you better correct yourself or else severe punishment is coming upon you.
63: People ask you concerning the Hour. Say," Knowledge of it is only with Allah. And what
may make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near."
64: Indeed, Allah has cursed the disbelievers and prepared for them a Blaze.
65: Abiding therein forever, they will not find a protector or a helper.
66: The Day their faces will be turned about in the Fire, they will say, "How we wish we had
obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger."
67: And they will say, "Our Lord, indeed we obeyed our masters and our dignitaries.…
We obeyed our leaders.
…. and they led us astray from the [right] way.
68: Our Lord, give them double the punishment and curse them with a great curse."
69: O you who have believed, be not like those who abused Musa عليه السالم….
How do they abuse Musa عليه السالم? By disobeying Musa عليه السالم! Musa عليه السالم would tell them
slaughter a cow; they would say what kind of a cow? One question after the other! You know
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 32 ربنا تقبل منا
sometimes a حکم is clear in the قرأ ن but what happens? “Yeah, But what does this mean?” And “what
does that mean” and “what about this” And “what about that”! One question after the other! Splitting
hair! Splitting hair literally! Isn't it obvious?
Like for example in this أ ة over here that we learned that the women should draw a part of their حاب
and conceal what is exposed. It's obvious, right? And it's clear at the beginning of the أ ة that this is
for all women, right?
And I mean at least in some situations where, for example, there is makeup on the face, that a woman
is wearing nice lipstick, her face is looking so beautiful, She's going outside ين and you might say
“Oh nobody looks here”; really? Nobody looks over here? You think there are no men in this world
in Canada, in the society that we live? Of course there are men. They’re all men. Haven't you seen
that video of that woman walking through downtown, you know for 10 hours or something and how
many times she's harassed? How many times? Vulgar comments! And she is not even looking at
anybody. She is not even talking to anybody and she's dressed I mean relatively simple, Right?
Relatively simple but look at the comments that she receives. So men are men, they're going to be
men. We have to protect ourselves. So:
.… O believers, do not be like who abused Musa; then Allah cleared him of what they said.
And he, in the sight of Allah, was distinguished.
70: O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.
Aisha عهناريض هللا said, the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
"Even I, unless and until Allah bestows his pardon and mercy on me, I am not forgiven."
Meaning I am not worthy of Allah’s mercy. It's only Allah’s favor on a believer, on a servant that he
is admitted into paradise. So how careful we have to be about our speech that even the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص
had to be so careful. What about us? ددا ل ح !O believers - وقلا ق
71: He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys
Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
72: Indeed, we offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, and they
declined to bear it and feared it; but man [undertook to] bear it. Indeed, he was unjust and
ignorant.
73: [It was] so that Allah may punish the hypocrite men and hypocrite women and the men
and women who associate others with Him and that Allah may accept repentance from the
believing men and believing women. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
So this أ مانة is on us. Which أ مانة? Which trust? Which responsibility? That on learning; act, obey
surrender.

SABA’ 1-54 - FATIR 1- 7
SABA’ 1-54:
اءبرة RECITATION (1 - 3)
حيم ـن الر محح م هللا الر بسحIn the name of Allah, the entirely Merciful, the especially Merciful.
1: [All] praise is [due] to Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is
in the earth….
Including who? Us!
.… and to Him belongs [all] praise in the Hereafter. And He is the Wise, the Acquainted.
2: He knows what penetrates into the earth and what emerges from it and what descends
from the heaven and what ascends therein. And He is the Merciful, the Forgiving.
3: But those who disbelieve say, "The Hour will not come to us." Say, "Yes, by my Lord, it
will surely come to you. [Allah is] the Knower of the unseen." Not absent from Him is an
atom's weight within the heavens or within the earth or [what is] smaller than that or greater,
except that it is in a clear register.
How great is Allah’s knowledge!
4: That He may reward those who believe and do righteous deeds….
The Day of Judgment is necessary for this purpose.
…. Those will have forgiveness and noble provision.
5: But those who strive against Our verses [seeking] to cause failure - for them will be a
painful punishment of foul nature.
Meaning all those who oppose the قرأ ن, who oppose the religion of Allah, for them is a painful
punishment.
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن

6: And those who have been given knowledge see that what is revealed to you from your
Lord is the truth, and it guides to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy.
7: But those who disbelieve say, "Shall we direct you to a man who will inform you [that]
when you have disintegrated in complete disintegration, you will [then] be [recreated] in a new
creation?
Meaning they talk to each other making fun of the قرأ ن and making fun of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, “Did
you know this is what they say in Islam? This is what Muslims believe, this is what the قرأ ن says,
yeah it's written in the قرأ ن, it's written in the حدث.” They mock at the teachings of Islam like this.
They say:
8: Has he invented about Allah a lie or is there in him madness?" Rather, they who do not
believe in the Hereafter will be in the punishment and [are in] extreme error.
9: Then, do they not look at what is before them and what is behind them of the heaven and
earth? If We should will, We could cause the earth to swallow them or [could] let fall upon
them fragments from the sky. Indeed, in that is a sign for every servant turning back [to
Allah].
Really if you think about it, how very unsafe we are in this world. How weak we are. How can we
protect ourselves? It's only Allah’s mercy if we are safe. So never even for a moment should a
person allow himself to deliberately sin and oppose Allah’s commands.
10: ال ا فضح نا داوود من .…And we certainly gave Dawood from Us bounty .… ولقدح أ تيح
Meaning special favor Allah gave to Dawood عليه السالم which was not given to others.
…. [We said], "O mountains, repeat [Our] praises with him, and the birds [as well]."….
Meaning when the Dawood عليه السالم would do تسبيح, the mountains and the birds would join him.
….And We made pliable for him iron,
Iron, imagine so strong, so solid, it was made like dough, like dough, for Dawood عليه السالم. Literally he could soften it he could shape it. You know next time you touch play dough or
something, or maybe dough actual dough, just think Dawood عليه السالم , he could touch dough,
meaning touch metal, iron and change it, mold it, shape it , break it as easily as you are dealing with
dough. Just imagine, this was so easy for him. A special favor!

Page 35 ربنا تقبل منا
11: [Commanding him], "Make full coats of mail and calculate [precisely] the links….
Because previously it was just plated armor that people had. But now that Dawood عليه السالم had
ability to really use iron like this, he could make links and with those links he could make full coats
of armor.
….And work [all of you] righteousness…..
لا صالاو امعح ….Indeed I, of what you do, am Seeing."
Meaning if a person has a talent, has a skill then what should he do with it? What should he do with
it? He should do good, he should make good stuff with it, good work. Remember that Allah is
watching what we do.
12: And to Sulaiman [We subjected] the wind - its morning [journey was that of] a month -
and its afternoon [journey was that of] a month….
Meaning in one morning, in one evening, so much distance was crossed.
….and We made flow for him a spring of [liquid] copper. And among the jinn were those who
worked for him by the permission of his Lord. And whoever deviated among them from Our
command - We will make him taste of the punishment of the Blaze.
13: They made for him what he willed of elevated chambers, statues, bowls like reservoirs….
Meaning huge, huge vessels that were like reservoirs
.…and stationary kettles….
Meaning such cooking pots which were just stationary, unmovable, why? Because of their massive
size and because of the fact that there was food being prepared or being served in them all the time.
And what does that show? Huh? It shows that the great numbers of the people of
Sulaiman عليه السالم, his armies.
…. [We said]…. راح داوود ش
لا أ ل Work, O family of Dawood, in gratitude." And few".… امعح
of My servants are grateful….
When Allah has bestowed blessings upon us we need to show gratitude, not just verbally but also
how? Through our معل! "Work, O family of Dawood, in gratitude."
And the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, did he do معل in gratitude to Allah? Yes, when he would pray in the night, so
much so that his feet would swell, he would be asked why, and what was his response? “Should I not
be a grateful servant?” So for gratitude something has to be done.
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 36 ربنا تقبل منا
14: And when We decreed for Sulaiman death, nothing indicated to the jinn his death except
a creature of the earth eating his staff….
Meaning a termite ate up his staff and eventually when that broke, Sulaiman عليه السالم, he fell and
when:
….he fell, it became clear to the jinn that if they had known the unseen, they would not have
remained in humiliating punishment.
Because the Jinn were working all along worried that, “O Sulaiman عليه السالم is watching” but
Sulaiman عليه السالم was actually dead, he had passed away and the Jinn had no idea, right. And they
kept working and eventually when the death of Sulaiman عليه السالم was obvious. Then they realized
that, “Oh, what do we know?” Right!
So what this shows to us is that the Jinn do not know the unseen, alright? They don't have the
knowledge of the unseen. So never be afraid of a Jinn that, “O he knows what's going on, شيطان
knows whatever is going on” No! And never ask a Jinn either the news of the unseen.
15: There was for [the tribe of] Saba' in their dwelling place a sign…
Meaning that for the people of Saba’ there was a sign for them in the place that they lived. What was
that?
….Two [fields of] gardens on the right and on the left. [They were told], "Eat from the
provisions of your Lord and be grateful to Him. A good land [have you], and a forgiving
Lord."
Meaning Allah has given you so many blessings so use them and be grateful to your Lord.
16: But they turned away refusing.….
You see that Dawood and Sulaiman عليه السالم, how were they? Grateful! And the people of Saba’
what did they do? They were ungrateful.
…. So We sent upon them the flood of the dam, and We replaced their two [fields of] gardens
with gardens of bitter fruit, tamarisks and something of sparse Lote trees.
Which was a result of their کفر! You see کفر, ingratitude is the opposite of شر and when Allah gives
us blessings, what do we need to do? Show gratitude and that will maintain our blessings, keep our
blessings and also grow them. But ingratitude results in what? Loss of blessings!
17: [By] that We repaid them because they disbelieved. And do We [thus] repay except the
ungrateful?
Except the ungrateful! Meaning it's only ungrateful people who are recompensed like this.
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 37 ربنا تقبل منا
18: And We placed between them….
These people the people of Saba’ were in Yemen and Yemen is in the south of Saudi Arabia, alright.
….and the cities which We had blessed….
And this is Ash-Sham and As-Sham is in the north of Saudi Arabia. So just imagine the map a Saudi
Arabia in your head. Yemen is where? All the way in south and in the north is Ash-Sham. So
between these two Allah says, We have placed:
…. [many] visible cities. And We determined between them the [distances of] journey, [saying],
"Travel between them by night or day in safety."
Meaning the people of Saba’ would easily travel all the way to Ash-Sham and back in safety.
19: But [insolently] they said, "Our Lord, lengthen the distance between our journeys,” ….
“This is so easy for us and we can’t show off our wealth and we can’t really show off our resources
because this journey is just too easy” - These are words of ingratitude.
….they wronged themselves, so We made them narrations and dispersed them in total
dispersion. Indeed, in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
Sometimes we complain that things are too easy for us. Sometimes we complain that we have too
many blessings. “We have so much food, oh my god, who's going to eat all of this?”
We complain about blessings. We complain about the things that Allah تعالى و سبحانه has given us.
Yes, everything, we don't have to use it! If Allah is giving you something it doesn’t mean that you
have to use hundred percent of it. Give part of it away but don't be ungrateful because ingratitude
leads to what? Deprivation!
20: And Iblees had already confirmed through them his assumption, so they followed him,
except for a party of believers.
21: And he had over them no authority except [it was decreed] that We might make evident
who believes in the Hereafter from those who are in doubt about it. And your Lord, over all
things, is Guardian.
Meaning it is through these events that really, a person's ا ميان, a person’s state of heart is revealed.
22: Say, [O Prophet], "Invoke those you claim [as deities] besides Allah" They do not possess
an atom's weight [of ability] in the heavens or on the earth, and they do not have therein any
partnership [with Him], nor is there for Him from among them any assistant.
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن

23: And intercession does not benefit with Him except for one whom He permits. [And those
wait] until, when terror is removed from their hearts, they will say [to one another], "What has
your Lord said?" They will say, "The truth." And He is the Most High, the Grand.
Meaning the angels, when Allah speaks to them what happens to the angels? They are overcome by
fright. So on the Day of Judgment, what do people think that those whom they rely upon they can
just easily go in and speak before Allah? No! Realize how serious this matter is.
24: Say, "Who provides for you from the heavens and the earth?" Say, “Allah. And indeed,
we or you are either upon guidance or in clear error."
Meaning we say Allah provides and you say somebody else provides now both cannot be right.
Somebody has to be right and the other has to be wrong.
25: Say, "You will not be asked about what we committed, and we will not be asked about
what you used do."
26: Say, "Our Lord will bring us together; then He will judge between us in truth. And He is
the Knowing Judge."
27: Say, "Show me those whom you have attached to Him as partners. No! Rather, He
[alone] is Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise."
28: And We have not sent you except comprehensively to mankind as a bringer of good
tidings and a warner. But most of the people do not know.
29: And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"
30: Say, "For you is the appointment of a Day [when] you will not remain thereafter an
hour, nor will you precede [it]."
Because the time of death is fixed!

Does this sound familiar? It is said today as well. People of the past said this and the people today
say the same thing. “We will never believe in this قرأ ن, we don’t believe in any revelation, any
religion.”
…. But if you could see when the wrongdoers are made to stand before their Lord….
Meaning today they stand so arrogantly, what will happen to them tomorrow? They will be:
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن

…. refuting each other's words...
They will blame each other, refute each other.
…. Those who were oppressed will say to those who were arrogant, "If not for you, we would
have been believers."
Meaning you are the problem. “We disbelieved because if you, we listened to you, it's your fault!”
But:
32: Those who were arrogant will say to those who were oppressed, "Did we avert you from
guidance after it had come to you? Rather, you were criminals."
Meaning, “It was your choice don't blame us. We didn't force you to leave your religion. We didn't
force you to abandon your faith in God. It was your decision. You just followed us.”
33: Those who were oppressed will say to those who were arrogant, "Rather, [it was your]
conspiracy of night and day when you were ordering us to disbelieve in Allah and attribute to
Him equals."….
Even today what happens? When a person, he suffers a loss, he says, “Oh you know what the
conspiracy of other people.”
Well you know what even if they were conspiring why were you so naive that you got caught in that,
right? You should have used your mind. You should have used the knowledge that Allah gave you
and made decisions correctly.
…. But they will [all] confide regret when they see the punishment; and We will put shackles
on the necks of those who disbelieved. Will they be recompensed except for what they used to
do?
Because you see, when there is a collar on the neck can a person bend? No way. So this is how they
used to live their lives also, the truth was presented but they would just look down. Like, not even
that willing to listen to it.
34: And We did not send into a city any warner except that its affluent said, "Indeed we, in
that with which you were sent, are disbelievers."
Because it was generally the rich, the influential that opposed the Prophets of Allah
35: And they said, "We are more [than the believers] in wealth and children, and we are not
to be punished."

Your money your children, they don't increase your status near Allah. No way! Because these,
Allah is the one who gave them to you. So what is important near Allah? What is it that really
increases your status near Allah?
…. but it is [by being] one who has believed and done righteousness….
It is ا ميان and ‘ صال معل ’
….. For them there will be the double reward for what they did, and they will be in the upper
chambers [of Paradise], safe [and secure].
18
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“Allah does not look at your faces, and your wealth but He looks to your heart and to your deeds.”
So we should use our wealth and children also for the purpose of earning أ خرة. Use them in Allah’s
way. Teach our children good things so that they do good works.
38: And the ones who strive against Our verses to cause [them] failure - those will be
brought into the punishment [to remain].
39: Say, "Indeed, my Lord extends provision for whom He wills of His servants and
restricts [it] for him. But whatever thing you spend [in His cause] - He will compensate it; and
He is the best of providers."
You see this is completely Allah’s decision; what a person has and what he does not have, this is for
Allah to decide. So those who have been given a lot should not become arrogant. And those who
have been given little should not become upset with the Allah. And what we learned in this ةأ is that
whatever you spend in Allah’s cause Allah will compensate it. He will give you something else in
its place because spending never ever reduces wealth. Never! Those who give are given more.
Allah تعالىو سبحانه says that “O son of Adam spend I will spend on you.”

19The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“The right hand of Allah is full and spending liberally during day and night does not diminish
Allah’s resources at all. Don't you see what He has spent since He created the heaven and the earth
and what is in His right hand has not decreased?”
I mean just think how much water do you think fell since yesterday? We cannot even imagine it. If
we try to collect it we could not collect it. So why do we have fear when we are expecting a reward
from Allah, when we are expecting رزق from Allah, provision from Allah? Allah is constantly
giving, we are constantly receiving. So we should continue to give in order to continue receiving
also even if it's a little, but give and ask Allah, “Ya Allah, You show me the ways, You inspire me
where I should spend how much I should spend and you give me the ability to spend also.”
20
Bilal رىض هللا عنه said that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said to me:
“Spend O Bilal! And do not fear poverty from the owner of the throne.”
Who was Bilal رىض هللا عنه, what was his history? He was a slave, right? A Slave! So what riches do
you think he inherited? What do you think he had? Not much and the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is telling him:
“You Bilal also spend”.
So it doesn't matter whether we are millionaires or we are…. you know we are counting the change
that we are left with. Even then we need to spend and in Allah’s way, even a little bit.
21
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said to Asma:
“Spend and do not calculate or otherwise Allah will also calculate in your case.”
Ibn Abbas رىض هللا عنه, he commented on this ةأ , “That spend without extravagance or stinginess.”
Meaning don't spend in a way that you have nothing left and don't spend nothing that you're not
earning any reward.
40: And [mention] the Day when He will gather them all and then say to the angels, "Did
these [people] used to worship you?"

when it has come to them, "This is not but obvious magic."
44: And We had not given them any scriptures which they could study, and We had not sent

52: And they will [then] say, "We believe in it!" But how for them will be the taking [of

Meaning on the Day of Judgment how is it possible for them to accept faith because now they are so
far from it.
53: And they had already disbelieved in it before and would assault the unseen from a place
far away.
Meaning before what were they doing? Attacking the دني without any knowledge and now when
they come on the Day of Judgment after they have died, look at how desperate they are for truth.
54: And prevention will be placed between them and what they desire, as was done with
their kind before. Indeed, they were in disquieting denial.
This is why they did not believe. So the fact is that whoever disbelieves right now with whatever
determination and confidence on the Day of Judgment, he would only be full of regrets.

increases in creation what He wills. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.
Allah is the creator of the ants and He is the one who has also created the angel Jibreel, and the rest
of the angels. And the fact is that every creature is different. Allah has given every creature some
quality that He has not given to another. Allah has kept تف ضلا , variation, that some have been
preferred over others in different ways. And each is tested in what he is and how he has been made.
So the body that Allah has created for us, the gender that he has given to us, right? The eyes, the
hair, whatever the height, the skin, whatever it is, this is all Allah’s decision and behind it is wisdom.
And this is also a test for us.
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن
Page 44 ربنا تقبل منا
Here especially, what we see is that even the angels, Allah تعالىه وسبحان has not created them the
same. Some have two wings, some have three sets, some have four sets, some have more than that
and some have less than that.
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص saw Jibreel in his true form and Jibreel had six hundred wings each of which filled
the horizon and there were multi colored pearls and rubies falling from the wings of Jibreel. This is
how huge Jibreel is and other angels, as we see over here, smaller, they have lesser wings.
Remember that the wings of the angels when you think of them or when you read about them, don’t
think of white soft feathers behind on the back of a person like we've seen some pictures and
cartoons and all that, Right. Because the wings of the angels, they’re not like wings of the birds,
alright?
Because we learn in a حدث that Hajar, when she was running between Safa and Marwa looking for
water, what happened? She saw that there was an angel digging the earth with his heel or his wing.
Either his heel or his wing [and this is in Bukhari] until water flowed from that place.

Good speech, good words, where do they go? Do they just disappear? No!
We learn in a كب ريض هللا عنه حدث, he said that:
“Good words are taken up to the throne and they go around the throne and they make sound like the
buzzing of the bees and they remind of the one who has said them.”
Likewise, when a person does ر ح - of Allah ذكح

The words of praise: دهلل محح، ال ان هللا these سبحانه و تعالى these words that we say in glorifying Allah - بسح
words, also ascend up and they go around the throne making mention of the one who has uttered
them.
So remember that good deeds are taken up to Allah, they don’t get lost in space, alright? They are
not unnoticed. Who notices them? Who appreciates them? Allah appreciates them. So do perform
those deeds for Allah’s sake.
....To Him ascends good speech, and righteous work raises it. But they who plot evil deeds will
have a severe punishment, and the plotting of those - it will perish.
So for them is عذاب, for what? For their مر, for their plotting and for the righteous is جزاء, reward, for
what? For his صب.

that for Allah is easy.
So death will come when it has to come, where it has to come. So don’t be afraid of death, prepare
for death. Ask Allah for a good end.

you have been wounded and injured. But both types of water; do they bring benefit to you? Yes, and
such are people also. You can benefit from your most bitter enemy also. Remember, you can
benefit from your most bitter enemy also! From those who hate you the most also. So what do you
have to do? Let go of the hurt and relish the gain, enjoy what you receive. That is only possible if
you learn to forgive.
….and you see the ships plowing through [them] that you might seek of His bounty; and
perhaps you will be grateful.
Meaning salty water, you cannot drink it, right? But at least you can travel over it, you can go
through it from one place to the other, right? So likewise, you come across people who are very
bitter, very hurtful, very annoying, don’t focus on eliminating them.
Like, our mission in life should not be to get rid of salty water, no, you cannot do that but what you
can do is that if salty water comes your way, you just float over it, right? You just swim over it, you
go over it and you extract what is inside. So each person, remember, you can benefit from them;
there is ريح خ that they will bring you provided that you look for the خريح.

He receives the قرأ ن but he doesn’t apply it. So what does he do? He wrongs himself.

Meaning, barely, he is following it, a little bit, kind of.

[inheritance] is what is the great bounty.
Meaning the one who really picks up the قرأ ن, takes it and goes forward with it, yes, he is the winner!

The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said that:
“Allah has left no excuse for a person who is given a life of sixty years. He has no excuse, he has no

Meaning no matter where he is, what condition he is in, what family he was born into, what
circumstances he was raised in, he has long enough a life in which he can recognise Allah, in which
he should be able to question and wonder, “Where have I come from? Where am I going? What is

Lest they cease! Who is holding them? Who’s maintaining them? Who’s preventing them from

….. And if they should cease, no one could hold them [in place] after Him. Indeed, He is
Forbearing and Forgiving.
And we see this that if for example something in this earth even a species, if it is meant to go extinct,
what can we do to preserve it? We could spend thousands of Dollars; we can’t preserve if Allah
does not want.
42: And they swore by Allah their strongest oaths that if a warner came to them, they would
be more guided than [any] one of the [previous] nations. But when a warner came to them, it
did not increase them except in aversion.
Just as many times we say, “If only I knew, if I could learn I would do this and this.” Well, what
happens when a person comes to know?
43: [Due to] arrogance in the land and plotting of evil; but the evil plot does not encompass
except its own people. Then do they await except the way of the former peoples?....
What happened to the people of the past? They were arrogant, they were stubborn on their
wrongdoing and what happened what was their result? It’s clear.
….But you will never find in the way of Allah any change, and you will never find in the way of
Allah any alteration.
44: Have they not travelled through the land and observed how was the end of those before
them? And they were greater than them in power. But Allah is not to be caused failure by
anything in the heavens or on the earth. Indeed, He is ever Knowing and Competent.
So what we need to do is remember that we are Allah’s servants. We can never cause failure to His
plans, we are ultimately in His control.
45: And if Allah were to impose blame on the people for what they have earned, He would
not leave upon the earth any creature….
Not a single بةأ د would remain if we were to be punished for the sins that we do
....But He defers them for a specified term….
Each person has a limited amount of time in this life.
….And when their time comes, then indeed Allah has ever been, of His servants, Seeing.
When the time comes, when the time comes to an end then Allah knows exactly what we have
brought to Him. So we really need to be honest with ourselves and see what am I doing? What is it

Meaning this قرأ ن is an evidence, this قرأ ن is a proof to the truthfulness of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. If
anyone wishes to know if Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was really a true prophet or not, what is it that they need
to look into? They need to look at the contents of the قرأ ن; what is the قرأ ن, what is the message of
the قرأ ن, because this قرأ ن is an evidence to the truthfulness of Mohammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.
That you are among the messengers:
4: On a straight path.

6: That you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are unaware.
The قرأ ن has come to wake up those who are heedless.

7: Already the word has come into effect upon most of them, so they do not believe.
Meaning despite the clear message of the قرأ ن, what has happened? Majority of the people, they
have refused to believe. This is something that is very understandable that just how in the morning
when it is time to wake up, the sun has risen, the birds are chirping, there is noise outside, the alarm
is ringing, the kids are awake but those who don’t wish to wake up, do they wake up? They do not
wake up.
Likewise, the message of the قرأ ن is clear, it is evident, it is enough to wake up those who are
heedless. However, the majority of the people, they do not believe, why? Because:
8: Indeed, We have put shackles on their necks, and they are to their chins, so they are with
heads [kept] aloft.
Meaning their pride, their arrogance is so bad that they don’t even bend down a little bit. And to see
the truth, to see the path a person must be willing to at least look down.
9: And We have put before them a barrier and behind them a barrier and covered them, so
they do not see.
10: And it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will
not believe.
11: You can only warn one who follows the message….
Meaning a person who is really willing to change, who will follow the message.
….and the one who fears the Most Merciful unseen. So give him good tidings of forgiveness
and noble reward.
ت :12 ح م ي الح ن نح ن نح Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they .… ا

We see that many of our deeds, what are they like? Once we perform them, they are history. We
have sent them ahead for our أ خرة. But we see there are some other deeds that we perform which
Juzz # 22 2015 فهم القرأ ن

leave impressions. Meaning which leave impressions on people and then even after we have died
they continue.
Like for example we learn in a حدث that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“When the son of Adam dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three things.
1- Beneficial knowledge that he has taught or,
2- a charity that he has given that continues to benefit people even after he has gone or
3- a righteous child who prays for him after his death.”
So these are deeds that continue even when a person has gone. But we see that when a person
performs some actions, they do have an impact on another individual. Like for example we might
say a good word and a child learns that good word from us. So as long as that child will say that
good word because they learned it from us, even though we’re not saying it anymore, that good word
is being recorded in our record and the same goes for sins.
This is why someone advised that when your child is capable of learning رة الفاحتة, make sure you
teach them رة الفاحتة yourself. Why? Because for their life انشاء هللا they are going to read رة الفاحتة.
So imagine in every prayer, in every ركة they have to read رة الفاحتة. Every time they read it, انشاء هللا you are also getting ر جح

So it is so important that we are careful about the deeds that we perform because we never know
what impressions they leave on others. What others might learn from our example and they might
continue even after we have gone because Allah says: ما وأ ثرهحتب ما قد

And also remember that أ ثر refers to the footsteps of a person that when a person is walking towards
a good cause, like for example when a person goes to a مسجد, then every step he takes to the مسجد is
recorded.
:said رل هللا ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص
“When a person performs وضء and goes to the مسجد, then every step that he takes to the مسجد, then a
good deed is recorded in its place.
Likewise, in another حدث, we learn that for every step he takes a sin is erased and a good deed is
recorded and the same applies going to the مسجد and walking back from the مسجد.
And this is not just limited to the مسجد, this applies to any good work that a person is walking
towards. So if for instance you had to walk over here this morning, even if it was just a few steps
from the bus stop to the مسجد, or it was from your house to the bus stop, then may Allah reward you
for every step that you took. May Allah reward you with a good deed for every step that you took in
His way and may He erase a sin for every step that you took in His way.
Because Allah says: ما وأ ثرهحتب ما قد

So the fact is that in the way of Allah not even a single step of a servant is wasted. Not a single
effort is wasted. Rather a servant can hope for a reward from Allah for every little and big effort that
a person makes in His way.
