LEED the Revolution

The Green Movement has made its way into the fashion industry. With sustainabilty and fashion forward thinking in mind, “LEED THE REVOLUTION” is just that. This design uses Eco-Tex sustainable textiles provided by ArcCom. These textiles have been designed to reduce the environmental footprint from start to finish.

Versatility, vibrant colors, and a militant inspiration combine to make this design a lasting piece to anyone’s wardrobe. Featuring the stapes of everyday wear, this outfit can transform from formal to casual with a few minor adjustments. This ensemble proves that fashion forward design and sustainabilty are now one.

“Our piece is a combination of many different materials which require a variety of construction methods. The concept for the skirt portion of the dress was digitally modeled and developed for balance by using Rhino. The wearable structure begins with a fully shaped, wire armature creating the initial form and idea of movement. Next, came layers of paper mache offering a smooth surface covering the wire, while also bridging any open spaces. Paper mache is followed by multiple layers of fiber-glass assembled in a careful order to create rigidity and strength. There is fiber glass on both sides, top and bottom of the skirt. The top of the dress consists of a rigid, corset-like, nylon, structure. The structure offers a base on which tiles are sewn and adhered. In total this dress weighs 58 lbs.

Alaxi

Introducing the awe-inspiring two piece ensemble presented by the Brigham Young University team. This fashion-forward gown is dramatic, theatrical, and commands attention. The entire piece utilizes 20 different fabrics from SilverState and Alaxi fabrics. They are all textural, and provide high contrast. The overall look is balanced with the main color story incorporating rich reds, dark browns, black, cream, and touches of gold. There is juxtaposition by mixing and matching woven textiles with faux leathers.

The jacket has a fitted, faux leather bodice in bold crimson snakeskin with sleeves of contrasting fabric tabs in varying lengths. The tabs whimsically play off the flutter peplum hem of the jacket. The mandarin-style collar is Asian influenced with a modern approach. Red velvet inserts along the hem highlight the sheen and matte textures. The entire shirt is lined with Sunbrella fabric, in a bold black and white damask. The bias trim is a flame stitch pattern from Alaxi fabrics called Firewire.

Deconstruction

We are using all components used to produce carpet tiles as well as the tiles themselves. This includes all forms of the raw materials, as well as the needles used to weave the carpet, and adhesive used to install it.

The dress itself is a carpet tile, deconstructed. The bodice is made from carpet tiles attached with adhesive and the rest of the outfit is constructed from the materials used to produce that carpet tile including carpet backing and yarn predominantly.

The outfit was inspired by a cityscape and is a representation of urban life.

Amethyst Rush

Amethyst Rush is designed to please the Punk Primadonna. Wallflowers need not apply. Made entirely from Tri-Kes Wallcovering products, this design will stand out among the grays of the city. The woman who dawns Amethyst Rush at first sight may seem ordinary, but when her outfit transforms, the true vixen is revealed. During the day she may give in to menial office tasks, but once night falls, she is bound to kick ass.

Bulla Vestio

Bulla Vestio, Latin for Studded Dress. Inspired by the delicate shape of the calla lily the dress marries the soft silhouette of the flower with very textural fabrics creating rich contrast. Saturated fall colors crafted the palette. Sewn with a personal touch, each designer created the floral shapes by hand. The bodice of the dress was constructed from textured vinyl and smooth polyurethane. Crypton, vinyl and polyester formed the various shapes. The asymmetrical design references a basic design principle to achieve balance. Everyday designers work in a three dimensional world and our dress reflects just that!

Coalesse in Bloom

Coalesse in Bloom: the result of hardware, fabric, and natural wood veneers, all used in the construction of upholstered furniture and casegoods. The gown consists of chair underlining fabric and canvas, united together to give the gown its underlining rigidity, yet allowing the outer layer freedom to move and flow. Rosettes made of veneers vary in species and shade, adding contrast and interest to the gown. As each petal radiates away from the center of the flower, it begins to intermingle and intertwine with that of another flower until it all becomes an abstract art form. Jewelry was created using various hardware pieces from the skeleton frame of an upholstered furniture piece. Interlocking washers from a shining necklace glistening in the light, while clamps sewn together with wire create a stylish bracelet ensemble. Earrings and rings are made from a combination of glides, washers, and metal wire. Various nuts and washers were used throughout the gown, making it sparkle at every angle.

Illusionary Ground

Illusionary Ground will catch anyone’s attention with its modern and edgy feel. It’s construction is made up of primary and secondary carpet backings along with Karastan’s beautiful yarns that are used to manufacture the products that cover the ground we walk on in our daily lives. Illusionary Ground can be perceived as elegant, but raw street attire, and at times can be seen as a funky, urban versatile getup!

The bodice is constructed on monochromatic carpet backings, arranged in an asymmetrical pattern to add interest and excitement to the ensemble. With the beauty of the yarns crocheted into long, refined, but exquisite glove, gives this intriguing outfit a certain flair. The contemporary petal like layers made up of the carpet backing is what give the skirt its elaborate fullness. This ready to wear ensemble is an illusive composition from head to heels.

Poison Ivy

“Poison Ivy” was inspired by the Masland Contract carpet line, Palmette. The bodice and train are constructed of a Palmette unbacked carpet in the Egyptian Papyrus colorway and is laced up the back by individual carpet yarns. The train is lined with an unbacked Colonade carpet in the same colorway as the bodice. A bubble skirt beneath the train consists of a primary carpet backing overlaid by a secondary backing. The overall garment consists of both constructed and desconstruced carpet to create a fashion masterpiece.
