Sperry MarineSYSTEM CONFIGURATION
System OverviewSperry Marine’s expanded NAVIPILOT 4000 Series of self-tuning adaptive heading control systems continues the company’s traditional product philosophy of increasing profit by maintaining low operational costs. The innovative NAVIPILOT 4000 Series is the first autopilot system to use steering control network technology to steer a ship and is also capable of tuning itself to adapt automatically to the vessel’s load charachteristics and the prevailing weather conditions, thus reducing operational demands and increasing fuel saving and operational safety. The NAVIPILOT 4000 Series comprises the following system configurations:
•NAVIPILOT 4000 - provides the standard set of system capabilities in accordance with ISO 11674.
•NAVIPILOT 4000 TRACK - provides additional capabilities for Track Control in accordance with IEC 62065.
•NAVIPILOT 4000 HSC - provides the capabilities required for high-speed craft in accordance with ISO 16329.
•NAVIPILOT 4000 TRACK HSC - provides Track Control capabilities in accordance with IEC 62065 and ISO 16329 for hgh-speed craft.
Standard FeaturesThe following standard features are integrated in all NAVIPILOT 4000 configurations: • Headingkeepingwithminimumruddermotion. • Coursechangecontrolbysettingeitherturnrateorturnradius. • Rudderlimitsetting(availableasanalternativetosettingrateorradius).• 2redundantnon-isolatedanalogoutputs,configurableasproportionalrudder
order or proportional rudder error.• DirectRS422connectiontoexternalheadingreferenceornavigationsystem. • Fullalarmcomplementviathedisplayunitandthealarmcontacts.
Self-Tuning FunctionAll NAVIPILOT 4000 configurations feature the self-tuning function, which enables the system to monitor performance and automatically adjust rudder gain and counter rudder as required to keep the tuning optimized even if vessel behavior is affected by changes in load or trim.
Adaptive Self-Tuning FunctionThe adaptive self-tuning function is an integral part of the NAVIPILOT 4000 and NAVIPILOT 4000 TRACK systems. This feature enables the system to adjust control settings automatically as sea conditions change to provide continually the best possible steering performance and efficiency.
High-Speed craft Features The following additional features are provided with NAVIPILOT 4000 HSC:• Allstandardfeatures(seeabove).• Jetdeadbandcompensationsetting.• Configurablehysteresissettingtoprovideadditionaldeadzone.
Track ControlThe NAVIPILOT 4000 TRACK and NAVIPILOT 4000 TRACK HSC versions are equipped with the Track Control capability and, when interfaced to a Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT Integrated Bridge System (IBS), will carry out external heading to steer commands generated by the VisionMaster FT IBS.
Liquid Crystal DisplayThe Control and Display Unit contains a liquid crystal display (LCD) which permanently indicates the following information:
• Currentheading(digital) • Setheading• Overridestatus• Selectedheadingsource • SteeringmodesAUTO,NAVorTRACK • Parametersfor - Rudder limit or - Rate-of-turn or radius (steering mode) - Weather • Presetheadingselection• 1/10°incrementsofsetheading
Additional Displays: • Loadcondition • Speed(auto/man.) • Rudderorder or • Actualrudderangle or • Rateofturn or • Crosstrackerror • Offcoursealarm • Headingdifferencealarm
