Recite the number names in order to 20 (and beyond!) Begin to count reliably 10 and beyond everyday objects using 1:1 correspondence and a variety of strategies, eg moving objects, lining them up, grouping Introduce new mathematical terms. Take part in counting, subtraction/addition activities and problem solving activities. Continue to recognise numerals 0-10 and 11-20 (and beyond). Sorting and grouping a variety of objects. Begin to name a range of 2D and 3D shapes and use the language of shape. Begin to use mathematical language appropriately. Can describe their relative position such behind, next to, above Measures short period of time in simple ways, eg using sand timer, clock, kitchen timers Mathematics Recognise numbers of personal significance. Understanding They answer how and why questions about their experiences Speaking Uses language to imagine and recreate roles and experiences in play situations Reading Sharing a variety of texts during story times and in the Book Corner. Taking real books and reading scheme home to share. Begin to read words and simple sentences Begin to read simple captions Writing Attempts to write short sentences in meaningful contexts Uses some clearly identifiable letters to communicate meaning, representing some sounds correctly and in sequence Letters and sounds Link sounds to letters, naming and sounding the letters of the alphabet Hears and says the initial sounds in words Be able to say and recognise initial letter of own name, extend to other letters in name and simple words. Begin to use phonic skills to segment and blend simple words. Introduce some high frequency and tricky words. Understanding the World Look at how people help is in everyday life Recognises and describes special times for family and friends Enjoys joining in with family customs and routines, Chinese New Year, Valentines Day, Mothers Day Develop their own experiences through role play & imaginative play with small world toys and props. Making and tasting different foods e.g. bread, biscuits, noodles, pancakes Shows an interest in different occupations and ways of life Talks about why things happen and how they work Looks at closely at similarities, patterns and change Knows that information can be retrieved from computers Understanding the World Look at how people help is in everyday life Recognises and describes special times for family and friends Enjoys joining in with family customs and routines, Chinese New Year, Valentines Day, Mothers Day Develop their own experiences through role play & imaginative play with small world toys and props.
