LAKE FOREST HOSPITALPELLI CLARKE PELLI ARCHITECTS | 2013
Location: Lake Forest, ILClient: Northwestern MedicineArchitect of Record: HGA ArchitectsConsultants: Thorton Tomasetti, Tom Oslund, TwoTwelve, TurnerProgram: 400,000 sf hospital, 100,000 sf medical office buildingSustainability: Target LEED SilverStatus: Design Development
Brief: Located in the affluent Lake Forest community the hospital is set within a primarily residential area. The project seeks to incorporate the unique characteristics of the site, the tradition and history of Lake Forest, while also acting as the prototype for future Northwestern branding in the northern Chicago region. Stealing from Wrightian principals the project was designed to ‘hug’ the landscape. The diagnostic and treatment program contours around a lake and waterfall element. This allows for a clear public circulation strategy which
always orients the visitor towards the landscape. Specialized bed and clinic pavilions pop above the curved podium allowing for individualized identity to each ‘center of excellence’.
Responsibilities: project management assistance, coordination with consultants, planning approval process, production of drawings, presentations, and submissions

STONY BROOK HOSPITALPELLI CLARKE PELLI ARCHITECTS | 2012
Location: Stony Brook University, Long Island, NYClient: State University of New York (SUNY)Architect of Record: AECOMConsultants: Maitra Associates PC, Mathews Nielson, TwoTwelveProgram: 240,000 sf MART and 225,000 sf bed & support towerSustainability: Target LEED SilverStatus: Construction Documentation
Brief: A new facility focused on cancer research and state-of-the-art treatment. Designed as a single structure the two towers extend from the base, integrating researchers and clinicians. The MART and Bed Tower differentiate themselves by two curtain wall systems fused together by the auditorium and entrance promenade. Future growth being an integral component
to hospital design, both buildings were conceived with plausible expansion concepts; horizontal expansion to the MART and vertical expansion by an additional ten floors to the Bed Tower.

5 KINGDOM STREETALLIES AND MORRISON ARCHITECTS | 2009
Location: Paddington Central, London, UKClient: Development Securities PLC Consultants: Ramboll UK, Roger Preston and Partners, CBH/SLA, AYHProgram: 210,000 sq ft, 13-story flexible office spaceSustainability: Target BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’Status: On Hold
Brief: Five Kingdom Street is the landmark building for completion of the Paddington Central development. The building form is characterized by the ambiguity between the inner massing and the external brise-soleil. The inner half-octagon massing rationalizes the irregular site constraints. Located above a complex network of Crossrail tracks entering Paddington Station, the building perimeter and structure required unique design solutions. The external brise-soleil circumscribes the
inner massing to form a circular enclosure, eliminating the ‘sides’ of the building from all distant vantage points. At the eastern facade the brise-soleil is broken, exposing a prominently glass façade which defines the main building entrance and establishes a relationship with the proposed garden.
Responsibilities: drawing and submission production, consultant coordination, and 3-D modeling

FACADE DETAIL
Brief: The site for a new mixed-use, commercial project is currently home to an abandoned Royal Mail sorting facility located within walking distance of the British Museum and Hawksmoor’s St. George’s Bloomsbury. Given this location within the city the project had to be in compliance with UK Rights to Light Act regulations and a 50% residential to commercial uplift component. Two
solutions were pursued which rationalize the irregular 3-D constraints, resolve the depth of the footprint by carving away voids of open space, and allow for retail at the street
Responsibilities: drawing production, 3-D modeling, and consultant coordination
