Fundamental technologies
An insulatedconnector.
We work on the basis of four fundamentaltechnologies within which we haveaccumulated substantial expertise overmany years.
Electrical connectionsThe safe and secure transfer of electriccurrent between cable conductorsor between a cable conductorand a device requiresa good-quality electricalconnection. We test anddevelop various methods, but in most cases we usescrew technology. Thisgives us the possibility ofoffering complete solutions in line withour philosophy of easy and safe installation.
Controlling electrical fieldsAt high voltages the electrical fields mustbe controlled so that the strength of theinsulation or the surrounding material is notput at risk.Depending on the voltage level,we work with different methods, e.g.geometrical, refractive or resistive fieldcontrol. Geometrical field control isachieved with premoulded stress cones andsplicing blocks. Resistive and refractivefield control are achieved with special field-controlling materials integrated intoprefabricated termination blocks.
Flash-over duringvoltage withstand testof a cable termination.
Development of creepagecurrent resistant materialsOutdoors, cable accessoriesare exposed to majorstresses, e.g. UV radiationfrom the sun and creepagecurrents caused byprecipitation and pollution.Cable accessories areinstalled everywhere on theface of the planet: in humidtropical environments, inextreme cold or in theswirling salt mist of coastalregions. We developmaterials and designsfor outdoor use thatare only minimallyaffected by xternalfactors. In the caseof cable terminations,it's the insulators, both in the porcelainand the compositematerial. Practicalendurance tests arean important part ofour developmentwork. In addition to weather-Ometer tests,salt-mist-chamber tests and other destructivelong-term tests, the products are tested underextreme weather conditions.
Design of low voltage networksElectrical distribution in cable networks calls forsafe and rugged products to make it easier toconnect cables and to withstand external factorssuch as humidity, vibration, etc., for a long timewithout causing malfunctions.Lengthyexperience of our own manufactureof switching devicesand hot-dip galvanizedenclosures, as well asgood customerrelations, means thatwe can quickly adaptproduct developmentto suit the needs ofthe market.Cable termination illustrated with equipotential lines.

Introduction
We reserve the right to alter the design and range of our products.
Kabeldon low-voltage distribution systemsfeature small dimensions, flexibility, safety, reliability and clear layout. The distribution board is planned with theConnect IT program, which is available free.To ensure high quality, the enclosure isassembled at the factory. The enclosure isthen fitted with the required devices. It is a simple matter to wire up thedistribution board and put it into service. Inindoor electrical rooms, the busbar systemcan also be mounted on the wall. However,we recommend an enclosed distribution boardlocated outside both for safety and to savevaluable indoor space. Among other things, the distribution boardssatisfy the requirements of:
IEC 60439 Low-voltage switchgear andcontrolgear assembliesPart 1: Type-tested and partiallytype-tested assembliesPart 5: Particalar requirementsfor assemblies for powerdistribution in public networks.
IEC 60947 Low-voltage switchgear andcontrolgearPart 1: General rulesPart 3: Switches, disconnectors,switch-disconnectors and fusecombination units

Kabeldon IP-system
Kabeldon IP-system.
The system consists of a unique, screen-protected busbar system which is combinedwith a broad range of switching devices andconnections. Features of the Kabeldon IP-system areits simplicity and reliability. These are themost important factors when you want toachieve low operating costs and high deli-very reliability in a distribution system.
Busbars of continuously-extruded alumi-nium sections, insulated with a layer ofpolyamid.
The busbar has a screen-protectedcontact slot. This ensures safetyregardless of where on the busbar theswitching device is placed.
Switching devices are available for bothdiazed and blade fuses.
The switching devices can be arranged inany order, regardless of rated current.
All parts have a high degree of protectionand are safe.
Switching devices 100-1600 A.
It is easy to add newswitching devices toexisting distributionboards.
Switching devices aremounted on andconnected to thebusbar system in thesame operation.
Switching devicescan be connected whenthe system is live.
Always voltage-free (“dead”) whenchanging fuses.
Busbars are available with rated currentsfrom 400 to 1600 A.
Switching devices, connectors andbusbars combine to form a modularsystem. Each module is 12.5 mm. Themodular system makes planning easier.
The compact design of the switchingdevices makes them suitable for use inmany different types of distribution boards.
All switching devices have a utilisationcategory so that they can be used in cabledistribution cabinets, substations andother distribution boards.

* In according to ISO 12944-2C1 = Heated, dry rooms.C2 = Small amounts of humidity may occur.
Since the 1920s, we have been manufacturingcable distribution cabinets. The latest generation of cable distributioncabinets was developed based on our longexperience of systems for demandingenvironments. At the same time, they satisfycurrent requirements for long life with undi-minished safety and low operating andmaintenance costs. In Scandinavia, where snow is commonlycleared with snowploughs and where thetemperature in winter can drop to -25 °C orlower, stability and surface treatment mustbe of the highest class. Resistance toexternal impact tests according to standardIEC 60439-5. In addition, good ventilation isessential to disperse heat during the summerand to eliminate condensation.
CDC - a versatile range ofenclosures with a timeless designCDC was developed in close collaboration withusers. The enclosures satisfy the demands ofthe network companies and the contractors forsimplicity and flexibility. They can also be usedfor broadband systems using fibre-opticcables, for telephone installations and cableTV.A number of practical functions make theinstaller’s work easier.
SDC - versatile enclosure withextra depthThis enclosure is designed for both indoorand outdoor distribution boards. SDC is hot-dip galvanized and has adesign that harmonises well with the CDCseries, so that the two can be used together. There is also a variant with a top section formeters or other equipment.
KSIK - powder coatedSuitable enclosure for indoor distributionboards in environment classes C

Surface treatment
Six protective coats for outstanding corrosion protection of steel in the ground
CDC and SDC enclosures are made ofsheet steel and are protected againstcorrosion by hot-dip galvanizing accordingto ISO 1461. For parts that are buried in theground, the corrosion protection has beenreinforced with a polymer coating. To makesure that the polymer coat adheres to thehot-dip galvanized surface, it has undergonezinc/manganese phosphating. The above treatment gives excellentprotection against corrosion, so that the lifeof the enclosures is long in the mostcommonly occurring environments foroutdoor enclosures.

Planning and design program
Connect IT planning programThe Connect IT planning program is aWindows®-based planning program for cabledistribution cabinets, service distributionboards and other applications based on therange of switching devices, busbar systemsand enclosures. Connect IT makes it easy to design anelectrical distribution board and to obtaindetails of its components as follows:
Enclosures with accessoriesBusbar systemSwitching devices and connectionOwn hardware added, e.g. fuses
Connect IT also generates information forordering, planning and documentation.
A single-line diagram, to whichaddresses, cable data and other detailscan be added.A front panel sketch, which can be usedas a basis for component mounting.
Connect IT runs in a 32-bit environment andtherefore requires Windows® 98/2000/XPor NT. Connect IT offers great scope to freelycreate any desired combination of switchingdevices and enclosures. The work is donequickly and simply, with the aid of a pictureand text. A customer database can be linked to theprogram, so that it is well-suited to be usedfor tendering.
Connect IT is also suitable for use whenchoosing an upgrade kit for older cabledistribution cabinets, or when planning abusbar system without enclosure, e.g. forinstallation in electrical operating areas.
Connect IT will be loaded from ourhome page: www.abb.se/kabeldon

Standard for switching devices
Utilization categoryThe utilization category for the switchingdevices is stated in the technical data foreach product.
Rated diversity factorFor switching devices mounted in an cabledistribution cabinet, distribution board ordirectly on the wall; the rated current must bereduced where there are parallel current paths.
Rated current for phase- and neutralbusbars. The stated rated current refers to the highestpermitted current in any section of the busbar.
Voltage testingAll of the devices have apertures designed forvoltage testers conforming toIEC 61243-3.
ConnectorsAll switching devices come complete withterminal connectors for both Cu and Alconductors. Connectors for Al conductorshave been tested to Swedish StandardSEN 24 15 10 equivalent to VDE 0220/1 orIEC 61238-1. The tightening torque depends on thecross-sectional area of the cable and isstated in the installation instructions andon a label on the inside of the enclosure.
Conductor area Tightening torque
2.5-35 mm2 15 Nm50-95 mm2 20 Nm120-300 mm2 35 Nm
Connection to the busbar 15 Nm
Area rangeThe stated area range refers to connectionwith a stranded or solid conductor. Whenconnecting a flexible conductor, reduce themax. area by one area’s step.
Parallel conductorsThe connectable area for parallel conductorsis determined by dividing the maximum areaby the number of parallel conductors andreducing by one more area step.Ex: max cable connection 300 mm2,300/2 ⇒ 150 go down by a step ⇒ 120.
Modular systemThe dimensions of all items that can beconnected to the busbar system are basedon a module (one module M = 12.5 mm). This makes it easy to calculate the spacerequired by a particular distribution boardand then to choose a suitable enclosure.
Number of Rated diversitymain circuits factor
2 and 3 0.94 and 5 0.86 to 9 0.7
10 and above 0.6

Standards for enclosures
EnclosureEnclosure series CDC and SDC are madeof hot-dip galvanized sheet steel and arebuilt to these standards:ISO 1461, IEC 60439-1, IEC 60439-5.KSIK enclosures are powder coated steelenclosures for indoor use in environmentclassed C
1 and C
2 to ISO 12944-2.
ProtectionThe degree of protection is IP34D, inaccordance with the requirements ofIEC 60439-5, unless otherwise statedunder “Technical data”.
FoundationIn the CDC range, the ground foundations isan integral part of the design. The length ofthe legs is individually adjustable and the legscan be angled out to avoid protruding buildingfoundations. Separate foundations for ground, floor or wall mounting are available for theSDC range. All below-ground parts have heavy-dutycorrosion protection. KSIK enclosures are for wall mountingonly.
Excavation depthTo ensure an attractive and functionalinstallation in the ground, we recommendexcavating to a depth at which about 10 cmof the foundation is visible above thesurface. A marking label indicates theground level.
Special operating conditionsWith this type of installation, considerationmust be given to the risk of condensation, dust, vibration and impacts. To reduce the risk of condensation, werecommend filling the foundation with sandor using damp barrier.
All enclosures except KSIK have ventilationapertures between the cover plate and thedoor and between the door and the roof, both on the front and back of the enclosure. The ability of the enclosure to withstandexternal blows and impacts has beenchecked by testing at –50 °C in accordancewith the requirements for use in an Arcticclimate in IEC 60439-5.

Standards for enclosures
Frost heave and CDCA sliding bar system in the CDC enclosuresreduces the problems that may arise inconnection with frost heave.
External fixing pointsThe sides of all enclosures except theindoor enclosure KSIK are fitted withrivet-nuts to attach marking poles, otherenclosures, boxes, etc.
Openings for temporary outletsBoth sides of CDC and SDC enclosureshave an opening for a temporary poweroutlet or to make protected connectionsbetween two enclosures. The openings arefitted with a revolving seal with a choice offive openings, the largest of which isØ 60 mm.
Where more SDC enclosures are to becombined, special sides are available. Forfurther information contact your supplier orus. On KSIK, there are two covered flangeopenings, size FL 33 in each side panel.
MarkingThere is a space for marking at the top ofthe door of CDC enclosures. On the inside of the door there is a clip toattach a cable distribution cabinet card, etc.
LocksThe enclosures have different locksdepending on their field of application;see the product pages.

Enclosures withupper section,CDCM and SDCM.
Standards for enclosure
Meter panel MPF 25/63.
Modular systemAll parts that can be connected to thebusbar system have modular dimensions(one module M = 12.5 mm). This makes iteasy to calculate the space required by aparticular distribution board and then tochoose a suitable enclosure.
Type designationThe type designation of the enclosure isstated as follows:CDC xyz (CDC = enclosure type. This maybe replaced by SDC or KSIK.)x = rated current:0 = cabinet without busbar system4 = busbar system with rated current 400 A6 = busbar system with rated current 630 Ayz = number of modules available on the
busbar (20, 40, 48 etc.)
Enclosures with upper sectionThe following information is added forenclosures with an upper section:
EnclosureAs standard, the enclosure comes with abusbar system in the lower section, but withno equipment in the upper section (the meterspace).
Meter panelsFor the upper section there are meter panels,MPF 25 or MPF 63, to mount the meters on.
The meter panel fixes on to a pre-mountedfixing bar, making fitting simple and flexible.Meter panels have a width of 220 mm. The meter panels come with a suitableintermediate terminal block (KSKP 25 forMPF 25 and KSKP 50 for MPF 63).
Entries to the upper sectionBetween the upper and lower sections thereare openings which are partly covered by aplastic plug with “breakouts”. The largestopening, Ø 50 mm, can take seven 50 mm2
cables.
LocksThe upper section of the enclosure is fittedwith a lock which takes a standardtriangular-section key, so that the customerand the electricity supplier can open thatsection. For the lower section, see theproduct pages.
