Consecration to St. Joseph
St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church and our
Parish Patron, as my spiritual father, I ask your protection and guidance and entrust
myself to your fatherly care.
May I recognize everyone as my brother and sister and
provide a shelter from harm. May your presence be felt in
our home as we create a warm welcome and extend hospitality to all who come
under our roof.
Please help our children want to share in the Faith
and Blessings that formed your life.
St. Joseph, may I see each day as an opportunity to work
with God in creating a better world and holier place. May I walk with you in God’s Peace
and Presence now and forever. Amen.
Leaning on the HEART of Mercy
At the Last Supper, Scripture tells us that one of the disciples leaned upon the chest of Jesus as they were reclining at table. During a Lenten series, Dr. Tim Gray of FORMED gave a wonderful reflection on this Scripture. Most assume that this
beloved disciple was the apostle John, yet, Dr. Gray tells us, many also believe the disciple was deliberately unnamed. Dr. Gray explains that the word for chest in the original Greek is kolpos – the chest, the place of the heart. The disciple is unnamed because the gospel writer wants us to see ourselves as that beloved disciple—leaning upon the Heart of Christ. Here, at the Last Supper, the word kolpos comes toward the end of John’s gospel but that same word appears at the very beginning of the gospel also. In John 1:18 the gospel says, “No one has seen God, except the Son, who is in the kolpos of the Father.” Christ is at the Heart of the Father and so, can make the Father known. We, Christ’s beloved disciples, are to be at the kolpos of the Son, leaning into Him and so, able and missioned to make known His Heart to the world.
May we, in this Holy Easter Season, continue deepening our daily spiritual habits: taking precious, holy time to lean
upon the Heart of Christ. May we lean into Christ in our prayer, and lean into the World of our family, community, and nation His Mercy:
which is the Splendor of Truth and the Passionate Flaming Wonder of Healing, Merciful Love.
