Later that day, I was walking with my mom, when I tripped and hit my leg on the
Ow, my sh**!: When I was a kid, I was always excited to learn new vocabulary. When I was in first grade, my teacher taught me that “shin” was another word for leg.
ground really hard. I yelled o u t “ O W, M Y S H I N ” although my mom heard “OW, MY SHIT.” She started yelling about how that was a bad word and we didn’t say that word, and she was going to wash my mouth out with soap. I was a crying, bawling mess of a child, to the point I
was doing that weird cry, stutter, hiccup noise. She paused in berating me and said “Who taught you that word?!” Of course, I told the truth and said “M-m-my teacher t-t-t-taught me that word!” and she started ranting about how she was going to call the school and get that teacher yelled at.
Of course I started crying harder and I said “NO it’s just a test you’re going to wash my mouth out with soap again.”
I tried to explain, “T-te-teacher said that shin meant leg I’m SO SORRY ILL N-N-NE-ne-never say it again.” My mom got quiet and r e a l i z e d h e r m i s t a ke . “…What did you say?”
When I was in high school, I was pretty quiet around people who weren’t my friends. The high school’s wrestling coach also taught geometry, and he was my teacher. This resulted in a lot of wrestlers skipping class a n d b a r g i n g i n t o o u r classroom to hang out and not get in trouble. One day, seven wrestlers come in yelling about new wrestling uniforms, and how excited they were. When they go over and pul l out the uniforms, the whole class is kind of side eyeing them. E v e n w i t h o u t w h a t I mention next, the suits look funny. I mean, it’s tight royal b l u e S p a n d e x w i t h a s u s p e n d e r s t y l e t o p . Absolutely funny already. But the wrestlers grab the uniforms and rush out of the room to go change in the bathroom, and come back to show them off. Which, is also hysterical because Spandex hides NOTHING.
With a patient in my medical exam room Me: How old are your kids? Patient: Forty-four and 39 from my wife who passed away, and from my second wife, 15 and 13. Me: That’s quite the age difference! Patient: Well, the older ones didn’t give me any grandkids, so I made my own.
Knock! Knock! Who's there? Candice. Candice who?
Candice door open, or am I stuck out here?

Hey I am looking for outside theaters, someone put them in the paper to let me know. I a m o n t h e b o r d e r o f Oklahoma and Texas and we have none here. We have a lot of vacant space here that would be perfect for an outside theater. Lets put our imaginations to work and make it better for all.
I don’t want the people of McAlester are being lied to but maybe manipulated, “ m a s k s r e q u i r e d ” t h e ordinance states exceptions, you can look up mental /health problems through the American Disabilities Act covers conditions that make people exempt. COME ON PEOPLE!!! Who are you in this generation to become the judge of all of us? Those in that generation are all dead and gone. One of our Biblical stories is about Lot's wife in Genesis 19: 17-

The Bible tells us that Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. We as a Nation are "NO" different. We need to keep on going w i t h l o v e a n d understanding for each other. •Watch for fall specials at garden centers and nurseries since fall is a great time for planting many ornamentals.
Vegetables:
•Plant cool-season annuals like pansies, ornamental cabbage or kale, snapdragons and dusty mi l le r when temperatures begin to cool.
•Winter broadleaf weeds like dandelion will begin to emerge in late September, which is also the best time to control them with a 2,4-D type herbicide.
•Plan to seed fescue or ryegrass as needed in shady a r e a s i n m i d - t o l a t e -September. Fall is the best time to establish cool-season lawns.
•Choose spring flowering bulbs as soon as available.
•Watch for and control late i n f e s t a t i o n s o f t r e e webworms.
September Horticulture Tips
for the Homeowner
•You have all of September to plant cool-season vegetables like spinach, leaf lettuce, mustard and radishes, and until the middle of September to plant rutabagas, Swiss Chard, garlic and turnips.
•If pre-emergent control of winter-annual weeds (henbit, chickweed, annual bluegrass, etc.) is desired in lawns, the a p p l i c a t i o n s h o u l d b e completed by the second week of September.
The kids are back in school! Now attention can be turned back to landscaping for the fall. Here are a few simple horticulture tips for the month of September.General Landscape:
Lawn:
•Begin to reduce the amount of light on outside tropical houseplants by placing them under shade trees before bringing them indoors for winter.

Today, in a Fayetteville Observer op-ed, Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump said, “As we work to achieve t h e G r e a t A m e r i c a n Comeback, The President and his Administration have stabilized our American food supply chain and protected our Nation’s families, farmers and ranchers…We are proud
As a part of the third round, USDA continues to review p r o p o s a l s a n d m a k e announcements of Basic Ordering Agreements (BOA). A list of current BOA holders and more information about the third round of Farmers to Families Food Box Program purchases is available at www.ams.usda.gov/s elling-
Yesterday, President Donald J. Trump and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue a n n o u n c e d u p t o a n additional $1 billion for the Farmers to Families Food Box Program. The additional funding allows the program to continue critical support to farmers, distributors, and American families in need. The Farmers to Families Food Box program has provided over 70 million boxes to hungry Americans across the country.“I’m so proud of the people of USDA for designing this program in record time. With this additional up to $1 b i l l ion in funding , the Farmers to Families Food Box Program will continue to save countless jobs, support our farmers and move food to where it’s needed most,” said Secretary Perdue. “As the President said, when a food box is delivered to a family, we show them that in this country no one is forgotten.”

The first two rounds of deliveries began on May 15th and will run to August 31st. The third round will put more emphasis on food insecurity by seeking e n t i t i e s t h a t p r o v i d e combinat ion boxes and requiring distributors to illustrate how they will provide coverage to areas identified as opportunity zones, detail subcontracting agreements, and address the “ las t mi le” de l ivery o f product into the hands of the food insecure population.

PITTSBURG COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE log report-Name-Date of Arrest-Charges
A lawsuit has been filed in Pittsburg County District Court by attorneys Tod Mercer and Cameron Spradling, alleging assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence against Indianola Public Schools and former Principal Gary Gunckel. The lawsuit arises out of an incident that occurred September 6, 2018 at Indianola School. The Petition alleges that two boys, age 10 and 11, were severely beaten with a flattened baseball bat by then Principal Gary Gunckel. The two boys were being punished with “swats” for allegedly getting into a verbal argument on the playground that did NOT include any physical altercation or violence. The Petition contains graphic photos of the flattened baseball bat and severe bruising on one of the boy’s buttocks. On August 5 District Judge Mike Hogan denied a motion to dismiss portions of the lawsuit seeking to hold Gary Gunckel personally liable for the physical and mental injuries and damages sustained by the young boys. In addition, Judge Hogan allowed the Plaintiffs to file an Amended Petition. (See copy of the First Amended Petition attached.)

We’re reaching a stress pileup all-time high, so the importance of talking openly about mental health is more cr i t ical now than ever. However, talking about mental health issues still carries a major stigma in our society, leaving many people feel ing uneasy about addressing their own mental health
A solid step forward is becoming more aware of common mental health issues and having those conversations can help remove the stigma. Understanding the basics of how depression, anxiety, suicide and substance abuse issues develop and affect individuals and families is critical to effective intervention. This understanding a l s o p l a y s a r o l e i n t h e implementation of prevention strategies.
Mental Health First Aid USA recommends using the acronym ALGEE when talking to others about mental health issues.
Demands of isolation, working from home and distance learning for students have left many feeling overwhelmed. Being disconnected from normal resources and routines, such as social gatherings, attending church or going to school, leads to isolation, which can compound the situation even further. With many adults being laid off or furloughed, this financial stress has tipped the scale for those who are dealing with joblessness and the inability to manage all of the bills. To combat these s t ressors , unfortunately some people engage in using poor and highly addictive coping mechanisms such as the use of alcohol and drugs. In addition, stress also affects interactions with families with domestic violence, and child abuse and neglect rates continue to rise.
If there ever has been a time of stress, 2020 is the year. Not only are families dealing with the normal stressors of life, this year has ushered in COVID-19, which brings a new level to the chaos that is called life.
needs, while others feel unsure in how to talk about them with those they care about.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of folks who die by suicide, about 90% in fact, have a mental health disorder that l ikely could be treatable, but went unrecognized and untreated.

Oklahomans know the importance of resilience in the face of adversity. We’ve dealt with it time and time again. Now is the time to double down and support one another. Subtle ways to stay connected

out a payment plan or simply calling a trusted friend or clergy to just sit with them and listen.
Helping others become more grounded in the present can be helpful. Sometimes, stress overload leaves people feeling chaotic, in despair and unable to resolve any of their problems effectively. Using proven mindfulness strategies to slow down ones breathing and thinking about what they do have control over can be a first step toward more clearly thinking about available resources can be used to deal with the situation. It could be just enough to assist in calling a mental health professional for assistance, calling a lender to work
Asking how others are dealing with the crisis creates a space that allows them to organize their thoughts about what is going on. This process can help others think more logically about the situation and whether their current response is lacking needed steps in more fully adapting to the crisis. Also, during this connecting time, ask people how they are coping and if they need support to deal with the stress.

including calling to check on family and friends, dropping off a loaf of banana bread or cookies on your neighbor’s porch or offering to make a grocery store run for those who may not feel safe getting out. These simple ways of connecting also are great ways to check in on how others are holding up.
