Advent is upon us. Is your tree decorated? Are
you gathering items for your Christmas
baking? Did you see all those people who
stayed up all night just to get into the stores at 4
A.M.? Were you one of those?????
Christmas is many different things to many
people. To some it brings fear. Fear that we
won't get what we want or fear that we didn't
buy the correct gift. Advertisers use fear to
persuade us to purchase things we don't
need. We want to make people happy. Given
that one of the themes of Advent includes angels
proclaiming "Do not fear," I suggest that - just as
some of us give up something for Lent each
year - we give up fear for Advent. I read somewhere that the words "Do not fear" or "Do
not be afraid" are used 365 times in the Bible…
one for each day of the year. How about that!
All the angels in the Advent stories begin their
pronouncements with "Do not fear." Something
more worthy of our focus is about to appear. He
will conquer those things that produce fear in
us. Emmanuel -- "God with us" -- is God's
incredible love dwelling among us.
The apostle Paul wrote, "If God is for us who can
be against us?" The gift of Jesus, the baby
born in Bethlehem, is the greatest gift we can
receive or give to someone else. Jesus is the
reason we need not fear what lies ahead. As
you listen to news from around the world and
news on our local stations, remember that God
is with us in Emmanuel and will never leave us.
Have a very Merry Christmas and
a JOY-filled holiday season!

Thanks for the Thanks for the Cookies & Prayers!Cookies & Prayers!
For all who baked cookies to support Kairos Prison Ministry,
we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Most of us take cookies for granted because they are always available; however, you can’t imagine what cookies mean to those who never have them. The Men in White of Kairos #30 were amazed that you cared enough to take the time to make cookies and pray for them.

Dear members of Island in the Son UMC,
I want to let you know how very much my family and I appreciate your
sharing your wonderful pastor, Dana, with us. My sister-in-law, Jean
Stewart, was gravely ill with pneumonia in Corpus Christi several
weeks ago and subsequently died.
I had asked my pastor, Robert Hall of Tarrytown UMC in Austin, if he had a
good friend pastor here whom I could call on during the weeks I was here with Jean.
He gave me Dana’s name and number. She has been so gracious to come to
the hospital on a number of occasions to be with me, Jean, and my family. She
has also been with us after Jean died. What a blessing she has been to us!
Thank you all so very much, Grace and Peace,
Joyce Stewart and family
