That`s right folks! The 34th annual Innisfree Fair will take
place on August 13 and there are a number of activities taking
place to entertain every member of the family, young and the
young at heart.
The day starts off with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. at the
Seniors Hall followed by the parade through the village.
The annual horse show gets underway at the Innisfree Rec
Park arena as the bench show opens for viewing of all the
handicrafts, horticulture and other goods.
The exciting soap box derby will see a number of racers
zing down the hill past the fire hall. You never know who you
might see racing this year!
The fair supper entertainment this year is the Laurence
Brothers. The four-brother band, Liam, Jeremy, Luke and Joe,
have been playing music for most of their life and over the
last fifteen years, have been performing together in and
around Central Alberta. You can be sure they will have a mix
of genres suited to entertain the dinner guests at the Rec Cen-
ter.
Don`t miss out on this fun filled day of local events to cele-
brate all things Innisfree!
The Fair is Coming!!!
I hope everyone is enjoying summer. I
am. The Village was the recipient of
some lovely trees and shrubs. Mr. John
Stewart called us when Craig’s Green-
house was closing for the season and
asked if we would like some trees and
shrubs. They donate to communities and
public places when the greenhouse sea-
son ends. We have planned these trees
and shrubs around town, at the Village
sign and in the campground. I am very
pleased to see these additions to our Vil-
lage and hope you will have a look at
them.
Were you down to the Vermilion Fair
this year? The Vermilion Ag Society in-
vited the Museum to put up a display in
their Heritage Building. Thanks to Louise
Bohaichuk and Jennifer Hodel for setting
up the display. I thought it was a very
good display and I was told that many
people stopped by and checked it out. I
believe that this display will bring visi-
tors to town to see the museum. We will
need more people to volunteer to host
these visitors. If you can spare some time
come and see me or Jennifer at the Vil-
lage office. The museum is open Tuesday
to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
There is so much information to read and
see, and there are some new items for
those who have not been there for a
while.
Did you have a chance to see some of
the ball games at the Recreation Park ball
diamonds the weekend of July 18-20?
Thanks to the Innisfree Fish and Game
for helping put new shale on the dia-
monds.
Thanks to the volunteers that have tak-
en the time to work on maintenance of
the cemetery.
Remember that children out of school
for the summer vacation, and to slow
down passing the school. Children are
going to the playground on the west side
of the school and there are children’s ac-
tivities.
The 34th Annual Agricultural Fair and
Horse Show is coming up on August 13.
The fair books are out and you can pick
one up at the Village office or the post of-
fice lobby. If you would like to help out
at the fair. Please contact myself @ 780-
592-2083 or Tracy @ 780-592-2081.
There are lots of opportunities to help
make the fair another great success this
year.
There will be a soap box derby car
building workshop in August. Look for
the information in this issue of the In-
former. Make your racer now and be
ready for the derby on fair day.
Enjoy the sunny days with your family
and friends.

dreams, live the life you have imagined.”

The Cemetery Committee met on Wednesday, July 30 and had many issues to discuss
and decisions to make. A set of regulations and a new schedule of fees will be published in
the next informer for your information and feedback, then sent to Village Council for ap-
proval, and should be in place early this fall.
We sent a letter to the County of Minburn earlier this month requesting assistance for
fencing, signage, and an up-to-date survey of the cemetery. We received a reply July 30 in
which the County has approved the financial assistance. We will put together a plan and cost
estimate over the next month. If you have any suggestions, or would like to submit a pro-
posal and bid for the cemetery sign, please let us know.
Many of you may already know this, but the line of maples running east to west
through the cemetery marks the boundary of the original cemetery grounds. The grounds
were expanded in the 1950s to include the Ukrainian Orthodox community. That communi-
ty still contributes to the operation and maintenance of the cemetery, most recently this sum-
mer with a generous donation. Thank you to the members of St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox
Church.
Reconstructing the history of the cemetery and reconciling the 1954 version of the
cemetery map with the actual grave sites is an interesting task. By law, we are required to
keep certain records and information, and we have most of it, just not in a single accessible
location but instead spread among many types of documents: the original and current ceme-
tery maps, burial permits and cremation certificates, receipt books, and account books.
That’s why we have purchased a cemetery management software package that will allow us
to keep all that data in one place, to note changes when necessary, and even to upload pic-
tures to the files.
If you’re interested in genealogy, you know how helpful that information is. As you
can imagine, it’s a big job, and we’re lucky to have dedicated volunteers. Thank you to Al-
lan Sharp for taking photographs of all the gravestones. We always have a seat at the table
(and a job or two) for anyone who has the time and interest to volunteer. Could you spend a
few hours a week searching old records to find and verify information, or help search for
next-of-kin names and addresses?
We have a few unidentified graves, and adding to our difficulties is the lack of rec-
ords from before 1968. There is probably a ledger and/or burial permits for the years before
1968, but we haven’t been successful in locating any records yet. If you have any ideas were
these might be, please call.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM
With almost 100 kids attending our program over a 6 day period our Summer Reading Program was
a huge success again this year! We kicked off the program with an awesome performance by Chil-
dren’s entertainer Mary Lambert. The kids (& adults) had a great time singing and dancing along
with Mary!
We then had 6 days of themed programming. We made our way through 6 different worlds hunting
for the Green Golden Goose & her treasure! We had games, crafts, activities and of course reading
time! The snacks were great and fit the theme of each day – Bunny rabbit veggies & the Golden
Green Goose herself! We ended with a clue hunt and found the treasure chest full of goodies!
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped supervise and make desserts – we couldn’t have done it
without you! We hope to see all the kids back next year! July 10, 11, 12, & July 17, 18, 19 of 2015!!

Thank You from the Innisfree Slo-Pitch Tournament
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Thank You to all the volunteers, teams, sponsors, spectators,
and the community for your support of the 2014 Innisfree Slo-Pitch Tournament. You made this year’s
event a HUGE success!
A special thank you to: the Village of Innisfree, the Innisfree Park & Campground and staff, the Innis-
free Ag Society and all their members and volunteers, Shannon and the staff of Porky’s Catering,
Dwayne Fowler and Family, Innisfree Hotel, Neil Napora and Vermilion Lakeland College, Proctor
Music Productions, Morris Anderson and Hugh Fleming, Allen Nott and Blake Sydora, the Jackson
Family, the National Softball Association, all the volunteers that spent countless hours preparing the
grounds and diamonds and helped throughout the weekend.
The 2014 Innisfree Slo-Pitch Tournament hosted 19 teams from across central Alberta and Saskatche-
wan, playing 34 games over a three day weekend. The tournament also included a Saturday night so-
cial hosted by the Innisfree Ag Society. Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, we donated
$825 from over-flow camping to the Kids with Cancer Society on behalf of Dwayne Fowler and Fami-
ly.
The Kyle Jackson Memorial Skills Competition was unfortunately cancelled this year due to weather,
field conditions, and player safety. However, this popular event will return in 2015 in memory of Kyle.
We hope everyone had a great time and look forward to seeing you all again next year!
Thank you,
Conrad Baranec
