Institut’ DERMed College of Advanced Aesthetics

Our mission is to help you create a unique MediClinical Spa experience that supports wellness, enhances beauty, and increases inner vitality.

Clinical skin care is emerging as the standard in aesthetics, thanks to baby boomers driven to achieve a more youthful and healthy appearance. Today’s licensed skin care professional must be equipped to recognize common skin conditions, develop treatment plans, and meet the growing need for skin rejuvenation. These skills are often not taught in primary aesthetic curriculums. Therefore, the marketplace relies on advanced aesthetic education to deliver the knowledge and skills necessary to perform results-oriented services.

In 1994, Lyn Ross, Master Esthetician with over 27 years of skin care experience, recognized the need for clinical skin care education supported by cosmeceutical product formulations. Lyn founded the Institut’ DERMed College of Advanced Aesthetics (IDCAA), offering post-graduate programs for licensed estheticians, cosmetologists, nurses and physicians.

We are proud to have been one of the leading pioneers in MediClinical Spa training and to have grown the Institut’ DERMed family of companies to include the IDCAA – an internationally respected advanced aesthetic education programthat includes an extensive line of quality cosmeceutical skin care products.

Our goal to empower skin care specialists with knowledge and proven treatment systems is the foundation for our continued success. We are passionately committed to advancing your aesthetic skills, increasing your confidence and helping you to expand beyond your current financial potential.

IDCAA graduates see the growth in their business and are true testimonials to the fact that knowledge is power. We are excited that you have chosen the IDCAA for your advanced certification.

We look forward to serving you! Sincerely,

Lyn Ross Founder Institut’ DERMed

Aging

Intrinsic or chronological aging is a function of the body’s metabolic processes naturally slowing down which decreases the rate of new cell production. Individuals will age at different rates due to heredity, lifestyle choices and extrinsic conditions.

Extrinsic or environmental exposures affect skin aging and can be controlled. Biological elements affecting skin are: nutrient deficiencies, sun exposure, air pollution, extreme weight loss, medications, physical activity and emotional health.

Renew

Renewing Infusion Treatment A potent nourishing and hydrating treatment combining Hydroxy-pregnenolone and anti-oxidants that focus on hormonal mechanisms to off-set menopausal changes in the skin. With the on-set of pre-menopaus estrogen production declines resulting in decreased new cell regeneration and fibroblast activity. This causes a thinning of the collagen and elastin tissues and fine lines and wrinkles slowly begin to appear. Compounded by extrinsic aging factors like sun exposure and lifestyle choices cell de-generation is accelerated and pre-mature aging becomes a concern. The Renewing Infusion Professional Treatment supports cell renewal and deeply hydrates skin for a glowing luminosity.

Key Active Ingredients • Step 1 - Renewing Infusion Oil Hydroxy-pregnenolone derived from plant cholesterol and CoQ10 used to aide in moisture retention and increase immune system function for deep cell hydration

• Step 2 - Renewing Infusion Mask Centella Asiatica Extract derived from Gotu Kola an oriental herb used for centuries in Chinese medicine as a powerful anti-bacterial that aids in wound repair

Key Selling Points • Helps moisture retention in the cells

• Strengthens cellular membranes

• Neutralizes free radical reactions

• Increases new cell production

Sensitive

Manifests as Erythema (redness) and Edema (swelling) from a range of reactions based on the skin’s own chemical components or from a chemical that comes in contact with the skin. A common sensitive skin condition of concern is Rosacea known to affect people of Celtic origin usually after the age of thirty, however it can appear in younger people. The disease is chronic with episodes of active inflammation that may produce acne pustules and papules. The cause of Rosacea is unknown but is thought to be a lowered immune response allow-ing for the proliferation of a mite called Demodex Folliculorum. Factors contributing to the Rosacea flush may be alcohol, hot beverages, spicy foods and sun exposure.

Lightening

Pigmented lesions are technically known as Dyschro-mias and are caused by abnormal melanocyte cell production located in the basal layer of the epidermis. Melanin absorbs ultraviolet radiation and provides protection to newly dividing cells in the lower layers of the skin to prevent damage to the cell’s genetic coding (DNA). Over exposure to sunlight, hormonal imbalance from birth control pills or menopause and injury from abrasions are the most common causes of pigmented lesions. There is no cure for hyperpigmentation but it is possible to improve the condition with topical tyrosinase enzyme inhibitors, sunscreens and regular exfoliation treatments to remove cells containing abnormal amounts of pigment.

Acne l, ll, lll & IV

A disorder of the sebaceous glands that presents a variety of

lesions; blackheads, pimples, pustules, papules, cysts and

nodules on the face, chest and back. These lesions are classified

as Acne Grades l, ll, lll & lV to identify their type as mild, moderate

or severe for appropriate treatment. Acne occurs as a result

of excessive sebum (oil) production mixing with keratinized

(dead) cells in the philosebaceous unit (hair follicle). This

creates a microplug or intra-cellular adhesion called a com-

edone. Comedones: the plural of comedo, are the primary sign of

acne, consisting of a dilated (widened) hair follicle filled with

keratin squamae (skin debris), bacteria, and sebum (oil).

Comedones may be closed or open. A closed comedo has

an obstructed opening to the skin and may rupture to cause

a low-grade inflammatory reaction in the skin. The common

name for a closed comedo is a whitehead. An open comedo has

a wide opening to the skin and is capped with a blackened mass

of skin debris. It is commonly known as a blackhead. Acne occurs

when sebaceous glands of the skin begin to secrete oil during

puberty. These glands are stimulated by male hormones that are

produced in the adrenal glands of both boys and girls.
