Preface
Dear Colleagues,
The 198th Falk Symposium in Shezhen, P .R . China will cover topics of recent development in inflammatory bowel disease . Unlike other FALK meetings in the past this meeting is unique in that it includes joint faculties from the Asia-Pacific and the European/American regions . Each session will be chaired by experts from both regions . The faculty represents a balanced panel of outstanding researchers and clinicians .
IBD is a global disease . In the past decade, a rapid increase in the incidence of IBD has been reported in several countries in the Asia-Pacific area . Genetic and microbial factors appear to differ between European and non-European populations . Nevertheless the clinical characteristics of the diseases, healthcare implications and medical needs of our patients are similar . Therefore, it is important to exchange experience and knowledge and to learn from each other . The organizers believe that this meeting with its unique concept and outstanding faculty will serve as a platform to exchange ideas and foster new collaborations and connections between the East and the West in order to advance our understanding and knowledge of IBD .
