What is a sphere???O A sphere is a
circle that has been shaded so it looks like a three dimensional object and NOT just a flat circle.
![Page 3: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Let’s watch a quick clip about this:

![Page 4: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
When drawing a sphere, you need to consider your light source.
Which side is the light coming from?
![Page 5: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
O The light is coming from the LEFT. This puts the highlight on the left of the ball, and casts a shadow to the right.
![Page 6: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
OThe light source can come from OTHER
directions too, which CHANGES which side
the shadow falls.
![Page 7: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
In this picture, which side is the light coming from? Where is the highlight?
![Page 8: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
The shadow is always on
the opposite side of
the highlight!
![Page 9: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Before we get started, let’s talk about shading. When you shade
there is a right way and a wrong way!
![Page 10: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Wrong Way:
![Page 11: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Right Way:
![Page 12: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
STEP 1:O Draw a circle.
![Page 13: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
We are going to pretend the light is coming from the
LEFT.
Step 2. Add a curved line to the right side of the circle.Fill in the crescent moon shape dark.
![Page 14: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Step 3. Draw another light curved line, smaller this time like the hole in an olive. Leaving left side white, shade from dark to
light in the middle shape.
This shows the HIGHLIGHT! Where the light is directly hitting!
![Page 15: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Step 4. To add a shadow, make an oval starting at center of bottom of the sphere. Fill in dark. Remember, the shadow is on the opposite side of
the highlight!
![Page 16: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Now that we have learned how to draw spheres, let’s
start our project called
FLOATING SPHERES!
![Page 17: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
We'll start with a small square (probably 5" X
5"), make a vanishing
point and then extend wavy (or straight)
sections outward to
color.
![Page 18: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Next we'll make some spheres using pencil and crayon.
You can make the shadows if it helps you, but we are going to cut them out without the shadows so you will be cutting the shadows off if you do.
![Page 19: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
We'll cut them out and glue them on our initial square.
![Page 20: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Next place your square randomly on your larger paper and extend a
few of your black rays
and change the black ray to a
color ray.
![Page 21: How to shade a sphere and floating spheres project step by step instructions](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061209/548cbedeb47959e8278b49b5/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
AWESOME WORK! VOILA! You are finished! You learned how to draw
a shaded sphere, draw lines from a one point
perspective, and how to make floating spheres!
