InfoTrac is a widely-used full-text database produced by
Gale. It contains academic journals, magazines and
reference sources for students. You get access to:
o Gale Virtual Reference Library. This is a database of
encyclopaedias and specialised reference sources for
multidisciplinary research.
o General OneFile. This is a one-stop source for news,
magazine, and periodical articles across a wide range of
general interest topics and academic disciplines.
Articles are available in both PDF and HTML full-text.
o JISC FE Custom News. This gives access to many
national and local newspapers.
To get access to this electronic resource off-campus, you need
to have created an Athens Account. If you don’t have one yet,
please contact the LRC Help Desk (020 8394 3055) or email

STEP 1 Log in to Weblearn
Log in to Weblearn at: http://weblearn.nescot.ac.uk/

STEP 2 Open the database in your course
Go to your course and find the e-resources and e-books
section. Click on ‘Infotrac’ to gain access to the
database.
If you are logging in at college, you can go straight to
Step 4.

STEP 3 (only off-campus) Sign in via OpenAthens
Enter your Athens username (ness0------) and password.

STEP 4 Search
Enter keywords in the search box for a basic search (e.g.
computer crimes) and click ‘Search’ button.

STEP 5 Search Results
Then you get a list of results that match your search.

STEP 6 Limit the results
You can filter these results using the options on the left
hand side. These options include choosing between
magazine articles, academic journals, books and other
options.

STEP 7 Bibliographic details
Every article you find includes full bibliographic
information such as article title, author, journal title,
volume, date and number of pages. You will need this
information for your bibliography and references if you
use the article in your assignment.

STEP 8 Open the article
To read the article click on the title.

STEP 9 Read the article
Once you have opened the document, you can read it
online. There is a set of tools that will allow you to view
the document as a PDF file, print a copy, email it and
more.
