How I Learned to Love Pantone's Color of the Year
FEBRUARY 28, 2017
I am a fan of jewel tones. Pantone has delighted me in recent years with a unexpectedly lush tones
such as vibrant Radiant Rose, regal Emerald , posh Serenity, and dusty Rose Quartz.
I was....rather underwhelmed with the selection for 2017, and spent the holiday season search for
ways to learn to love Greenery. I should have seen it coming- late 2016 decor news was chock full
of whispers and innuendos of the earth greens to come. Pinterest filled with sage, avocado and
grassy tones.
This small wall garden offers a cute space saving solution for bringing a little green into your home.

Let's face it...when it comes to interiors, neutrals still reign supreme. While the world of fashionable
home decor has brought back the best of the 1970s in recent years, we have flipped over from the
bright acid colors, exagerated angles and bold prints of the earliest years of the decade into the
mellow, sepia tones of macrame and spider plants that gained popularity in the shadow of
Fleetwood Mac's Rumors and America's bicentennial.
I found a few cool ways to weave Greenery into my home.
1. Plants: File Under "Don't Overthink It"
With a hue that gains so much direct inspiration from nature, it is the logical place to start. In
addition to producing all that delicious oxygen, house plants bring good vibes and gorgeous pops
of color and texture to your pad. Browse your local farmers market or nursery for native greenery
that will be happiest in your home.
Curse of the black thumb
Unlike my chihuahua, house plants don't grunt at me or throw long hungry stares when they needs
to be fed and watered. I have left a veritable grave yard of dead plants in my wake, and eventually
gave up on nurturing gorgeous and delicate flowering botanicals for practical plants with a higher
survival rate.
I find succulents to be low maintenance while still looking elegant. Ikea has a selection of simple
and sturdy succulents, aloe plants, and green bamboo stalks that are super zen, and hard to kill.
Short on sunlight? Decorative dried moss is a great way to incorporate some greenery and texture
to accent tables without resorting to silk or plastic.
2. Jadeite is the coolest way to capture some green in the kitchen.
Jadeite glass is gorgeous, solid kitchenware
that looks great in any era. Heirloom style
pieces are relatively easy to find, and easy to
clean- most are completely dishwasher
safe. Even if your in-home eatery is uber-mod,
Jadeite is a fun table look for weekend
brunches.
If thrifting is your jam, hunt your local second-
hand shops, flea markets, eBay and Etsy to
find killer deals on collectibles. If you are
aching to add a little Jadeite to your wedding
registry, new pieces are available at Sur La
Table, Cost Plus World Market and Pottery Barn.

3. Botanical Wallpaper is Super Chic
Since I was a little girl, I have always been in awe of the enduring glamour of The Beverly Hills
Hotel, and had the pleasure of recently featuring my favorite decor trends from the Pink Palace.
Without a doubt, the influencial style of the famous Martinique Wallpaper.
The bold beauty of Martinique is an excellent
motif for bathrooms.
