Concentration Camp: Chelmno

This was one of the many extermination
camps for the Jewish people. Camp started operating on December 7 1941,
and ended January 1945(The camp did stop for a bit up until 1942, then started operating again to get rid of the polish)
Introduction
This camp was located in central Poland,
approximately 30 miles northwest of Lodz. This camp was also referred to as Kulmhof This was the first camp that included using
gas as a killing tactic.

Location
145,000 people died from phase one. 88 children were killed Approximately 150,000-300,000 were
killed(mainly Jews) There was a nearby forest camp where the
dead bodies were buried.
Casualties
Hitler’s/Nazis main target was the Jews. This camp had three trucks/vans used for
mass killing it released gas in the rear compartment.
The “Sonderkommando” were responsible for setting up these trucks/vans.
Who/What
When people were stripped naked and sent to
the gas trucks in about 6 minutes they would all suffocate and then they were dumped at the forest camp.
Gypsies were also another target.

This is a video of a survivor at the camp of Chelmno.
No one in particular got a chance to survive such as people who may have a certain talent. At this camp everyone was treated equally.(horribly) However a few did manage to escape.
The ultimate purpose for this camp was to exterminate the Jews from the Warthegau
