G L U C O N I C A C I D : mild nontoxic compound—sequesters metallic ions over medium and high pH ranges. When used in caustic solutions prevents ad­herent scale in aluminum etch­ing:, derusts, retards rerusting, strips paint without attacking base metals—cleans glass molds and bottles.

OXALIC A C I D : strong or­ganic acid—noted for its ability to solubilize iron oxide—oxalates are important in blueprinting and gold coloring of aluminum —widely used in metal cleaners and polishes.

TARTARIC ACID: nontoxic sequesterant over low and medi­um pH ranges—its salts are used in copper electroplating, for brass cleaning, tin plating, mir­ror silvering, textile printing and blueprinting.

BENZOIC ACID: used as a ! resin intermediate—sodium salt is an antimycotic and anti-cor- ] rosive compound for paints and j textiles.

CITRIC A C I D : a most ver-1 satile nontoxic sequesterant for 1 low and middle pH ranges up to 1 9, excellent for derusting, descal-1 ing and cleaning ferrous and 1 noniferrous metals. Also effec-1 tive in printing pastes for poly-1 propylene carpeting and fabric.

ITACONIC ACID: low tox-1 icity — unique beta-carboxyl 1 group adds adhesion, solubility, 1 and stability to copolymers. 1 Other itaconic monomers (di-1 methyl and dibutyl) also com-1 mercially available.

F U M A R I C A C I D : is a prime ι monomer in alkyd or polyester 1 resins and resin adducts manu-1 facture.
