Portability

n LATEX, Ghostscript, and PDF viewers are available for mostcommon platforms.u Start writing a presentation on your office Unix machine

and then take it home to finish on your MS-Windows PC.

n Viewers for the output format, PDF, are ubiquitous andzero-cost.u No need to expect your venue to have PowerPoint,

StarOffice, or other uncommon or expensive software.u No need to bring along a laptop with your own

presentation software.u Just copy your PDF slides to a floppy, CD, or memory

stick, and slip it in your pocket!

Ease of collaboration

n Because LATEX files are text files, it is easy for multiple peopleto collaborate to write a presentation, even if not all of themhave LATEX.

n Keeping track of versions is easy and space-efficient using, for example, CVS.

n Changes from colleagues can be merged in using standardtools such as diff and patch.

Benefits typical of LATEX

n LATEX encourages writers to concentrate on content ratherthan style.

n Easy to incorporate citations and a BIBTEX bibliography.n Source file size is much smaller than other document

formats (PowerPoint, OpenOffice, etc.).n Leverage your existing knowledge of LATEX rather than

learning a whole new program for making slides.n Easy to copy complex equations, figures, and tables directly

from LATEX documents—no need to tediously re-key them in aGUI editor.
