1.1 Información general
Todos los mexicanos adoran las fiestas, pero ninguna otro destino, disfruta más de
las celebraciones y festividades que San Miguel de Allende, lo que ha llevado a esta
pequeña y rica ciudad a ser el destino colonial mas importante en cuanto a bodas se

empedradas ofrecen vistas panorámicas gracias a sus valles y a sus distantes colinas. Para
preservar y proteger, el gobierno mexicano ha declarado a toda la ciudad “Monumento
Nacional”. Muchos festivales así como “El festival de Jazz”, fuegos artificiales y desfiles
hacen de esta ciudad más colorida aún. Por la magnífica claridad de luz, San Miguel de
Allende es la razón por la cual muchos artistas son atraídos a vivir a esta ciudad, fundando
la famosa escuela de artes “Escuela de Bellas Artes” en el año 1936.Por su clima muy

14 ATRACTIVOS TURÍSTICOS
La mejor manera de disfrutar San Miguel de Allende es caminando por sus calles
empedradas llenas de mansiones coloniales y hermosos templos. Algunas de las
atracciones que se puede encontrar:
14.1 El Jardín principal
La plaza central es indudablemente el corazón de la ciudad. En el sur se perfilan las torres
de la Parroquia de San Miguel, al este y al oeste se encuentran los arcos de los portales y
edificios coloniales y al norte está la Presidencia Municipal. Pero en sí es el jardín que atrae
a visitantes a sentarse a platicar en las bancas de hierro forjado a la sombra de los
laureles, escuchando a los músicos que tocan en el kiosco central, o a sentarse en la orilla
para disfrutar de uno de los muchos desfiles que pasan y tanto se disfrutan.

14.2 Museo Casa de Ignacio Allende
Este edificio barroco de dos pisos es del siglo XVIII y, con su complejo trabajo de piedra y
hierro forjado, es un magnífico ejemplo de las casas que construyó la rica nobleza
española. Fue la cuna de Ignacio Allende y hoy en día funciona como un museo con
exhibiciones que nos hablan del papel de Allende en la Guerra de Independencia, la
historia y arqueología de la región.
14.3 La Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel
La Parroquia original que se construyó a finales del siglo XVII, era de un diseño
relativamente convencional y modesto. Esto cambió dramáticamente en 1880 cuando el
maestro albañil, Zeferino Gutiérrez, fue comisionado para crear una fachada nueva. Un
arquitecto autodidacta, se dice que Zeferino Gutiérrez se inspiró para su diseño en dibujos,
grabados y tarjetas postales de catedrales europeas. La resultante fantasía neogótica,
cuyas torres se pueden ver de casi cualquier lugar de la ciudad, ha hecho de la parroquia
una de las iglesias más fotografiadas de México.
14.4 Presidencia Municipal
El edificio histórico de la Presidencia Municipal se construyó originalmente en 1736, pero
queda poco de la arquitectura original, se destruyó parcialmente varias veces. Sin
embargo, sigue siendo muy importante, ya que fue el sitio de la formación del primer
Ayuntamiento independiente de México, establecido el 17 de septiembre de 1810.
14.5 Casa del Mayorazgo de la Canal
Esta mansión neoclásica fue la casa de la rica e influyente familia de la Canal y hoy en
día es una sucursal de un banco. Su enorme puerta labrada (localizada sobre la Calle de
Canal) es prueba no solo de la habilidad de los ebanistas coloniales sino también del
estatus que consideraba tener la familia.
14.6 Templo de la Inmaculada Concepción
Esta iglesia conocida localmente como “las Monjas”, se construyó originalmente como
parte de un extenso complejo habitacional, y como sigue siendo ahora, un convento
para las monjas de la orden de la Inmaculada Concepción. La iglesia se construyó entre
1755 y 1842, y la elegante cúpula la agregó Zeferino Gutiérrez en 1891. Nuevamente
modeló su construcción sobre un sitio histórico europeo, la iglesia de Los Inválidos en París.
14.7 Centro Cultural Ignacio Ramírez “El Nigromante”
Este centro originalmente fue el claustro del convento vecino; hoy es parte del Instituto
Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA) y se conoce en San Miguel simplemente como “Bellas
Artes”. El centro ofrece pintura, dibujo, escultura, música y danza; y es famoso por su mural
inconcluso del célebre muralista mexicano David Alfaro Sequeiros, antiguo maestro de la
institución. El complejo tiene un museo, un auditorio, dos galerías de arte y un encantador
café en el patio.

14.8 Teatro Ángela Peralta
Originalmente diseñado como teatro ópera, fue inaugurado en 1873 con una
representación de la más famosa soprano de México en ese tiempo: Ángela Peralta, más
conocida como “El Ruiseñor Mexicano”. Hoy en día, más de 130 años después, es un
elegante punto de reunión de artistas nacionales e internacionales quienes actúan en
eventos variados como los Festivales de Jazz y Música de Cámara.
14.9 Biblioteca Pública
Esta es la segunda biblioteca más grande de México de libros en inglés, dedicada
también a enriquecer la vida de los estudiantes de San Miguel. El laberíntico edificio
contiene un tranquilo patio interior, un salón de lectura magníficamente decorado, un
teatro y un centro de cómputo que ofrece instrucción y servicio de Internet.
14.10 Plaza Cívica
Construida originalmente en 1555 a un costado de la Plaza de la Soledad, esta plaza y no
el jardín, era el centro de actividad de la población, fue el mercado y lugar de reunión en
su tiempo. Hoy en día la estatua ecuestre de Ignacio Allende domina la plaza.
14.11 Mercado de Artesanías
El mercado de artesanías ocupa un camino pedestre que cubre tres cuadras, lleno de
puestos donde se vende arte folklórico y artesanías locales, joyería de plata, artículos
decorativos, recuerdos y muchas cosas más.
14.12 Templo de Nuestra Señora de la Salud
Data del siglo XVIII y servía como capilla para el vecino Colegio de San Francisco de Sales.
La fachada es churrigueresca y el pórtico se encuentra coronado por una gigantesca
concha labrada, previamente centrada por un solo ojo dentro de un triángulo; un símbolo
antiguo de la omnipresencia de Dios.
14.13 Oratorio de San Felipe Neri
La construcción de esta iglesia comenzó en 1712, al haberse “apropiado” una capilla
antigua que era de la población mulata de San Miguel. La capilla original es la parte que
da al este del Oratorio, y la fachada barroca más moderna de suave piedra rosa da
hacia el sur. En esta iglesia también se encuentra una pequeña capilla que la familia de la
Canal dedicó a la Virgen de Loreto en 1735, y cuenta con una réplica de la Santa Casa
en Italia.
14.14 Templo de San Francisco
Esta iglesia se comenzó a construir en 1778 y tardó más de 20 años en terminarse, se
observan diferentes cambios arquitectónicos de acuerdo con el periodo y la moda. La
fachada es churrigueresca pura (un estilo de figuras labradas de piedra y afiladas
columnas. Sin embargo, el campanario, construido en 1799 por el famoso arquitecto,
Francisco Eduardo Tresguerras, es de estilo neoclásico.

14.15 El Chorro
Construido alrededor de una de las calles más tortuosas y de mayor antigüedad de San
Miguel este tranquilo parque sube hasta el manantial natural, los baños del siglo XVIII, una
capilla primitiva y el templo actual que se encuentran en la parte alta. Según la leyenda,
la capilla ofreció la primera ceremonia cristiana en San Miguel.
14.16 Parque Benito Juárez
Un parque y jardín fundado a principios del siglo XX, y fue diseñado en estilo francés con
fuentes, estanques, bancas de hierro forjado, puentes antiguos y anchos caminos y
senderos. Es un espacio recreativo con juegos infantiles, canchas de básquetbol, áreas
para comer, lleno de plantas y árboles de la región.
14.17 Instituto Allende
La familia de la Canal construyó este enorme complejo en el siglo XVII como lugar de
retiro y hacienda. Esta antigua casa se encuentra llena de interesantes patios, una capilla
privada, en la cual se pueden ver algunos de los frescos coloniales, y una moderna galería
de arte y restaurante. En 1951 se convirtió en un instituto de arte que ofrece cursos desde
platería hasta cerámica y español, anualmente atrae a cientos de estudiantes.
14.18 El Charco del Ingenio.
Se ubica a las afueras de San Miguel, es una reserva ecológica y jardín botánico que
funciona con fondos privados dedicada a la restauración y conservación de la flora
mexicana y fomenta el florecimiento de las especies en peligro de extinción. El amplio
terreno alberga un conservatorio de plantas mexicanas, restos de un acueducto colonial
y una reserva histórica hogar de aves nativas y migratorias. Todo el terreno está unido por
medio de caminos ideales para el ciclismo o las caminatas y permite escalar los muros del
cañón el cual ofrece excelentes oportunidades de observación de aves.
14.19 Balnearios
Se pueden aliviar tensiones y suavizar los músculos cansados en alguno de los muchos
balnearios a lo largo del camino a Atotonilco, deslizándose en un manantial de
humeantes aguas termales. Estos parques van desde los tradicionales con áreas para
picnic y cafeterías, los más familiares, donde los niños pueden disfrutar áreas de juego y
parque acuáticos, hasta los que ofrecen servicios de spa y buenos restaurantes. Todos
cuentan con hermosos jardines y varias albercas cuyas temperaturas fluctúan entre los 28
y los 44 grados centígrados. Puede haber albercas techadas, a cielo abierto o abrigadas
por gruta de piedra, y su tamaño va desde las más íntimas hasta las de dimensiones
olímpicas.
14.20 San miguelito
Aquí, se venera a San Miguel Arcángel, se realiza su propia celebración 15 días después
de la fiesta de San Miguel de Allende. La iglesia contiene imágenes religiosas reunidas por
los residentes locales a lo largo de generaciones.

14.21 Montecillo de nieto
Esta comunidad alberga la iglesia del Señor Santiaguito. El santo es festejado el 25 de julio
con una velación toda la noche, rezos, fuegos artificiales y, antes de la misa del domingo,
una carrera de caballos.
14.22 Rancho nuevo de banda
Esta comunidad también celebra la festividad del Señor Santiaguito en forma similar a
Montecillo de Nieto.
14.23 Comunidad de banda
Hay también dos sitios de interés que explotar en esta comunidad: una presa colonial que
data de mediados del siglo XVIII y la iglesia dedicada al Niño Dios. El altar principal tiene
una imagen de Jesucristo en una cruz de espejos; abajo hay una figurilla del Niño Dios
dentro de una urna de cristal. Los altares laterales contienen imágenes de San Isidro
Labrador y la Virgen de Guadalupe.
14.24 San isidro de bandita
El 15 de Mayo marca la fiesta de San Isidro Labrador, el santo patrono de los labradores,
constructores y esta pequeña comunidad. La iglesia tiene un hermoso altar antiguo a San
Isidro, flanqueado por los retablos de la Virgen de Guadalupe, la Virgen de San Juan de
los Lagos, y el retablo de la Coronación de la Virgen.
14.25 Cruz del palmar
La iglesia de Cruz del Palmar no data del mismo periodo que otras iglesias de la ruta, pero
con la hacienda colonial del pueblo, del siglo XVIII, añade interés y un toque del
esplendor de su pasado.
14.26 Comunidad de Oaxaca
Esta comunidad alberga la iglesia de San Mateo. En la base del altar principal hay una
escultura de madera de San mateo policromada, en la parte superior, una figura del
santo peruano San Martín de Porres.
14.27 San Isidro capadero
Esta comunidad contiene dos iglesias. La principal se dedica a San Isidro Labrador; la
segunda es propiedad de particulares y se dedica a los Tres Reyes Magos, honrados el 6
de enero. En su altar hay una imagen de Cristo en una cruz de espejos y un retablo de los
Tres Reyes magos.

14.28 Tierra blanca de abajo
Otra iglesia dedicada a San Isidro Labrador, el santo patrono de los labradores, y
protector de las cosechas. Con el paso del tiempo, la antigua iglesia fue abandonada y
la imagen de San Isidro trasladada a una iglesia nueva.
14.29 Comunidad del espejo
El santo patrono de esta comunidad es San José y su celebración es el 19 de Marzo. El
altar principal del a iglesia representa a San José con el Niño Dios y la Virgen: la Sagrada
Familia. Hay retablos más a cada lado: el de la Virgen del Carmen y el de San Isidro
Labrador.
14.30 Comunidad de Juan González
Esta comunidad es devota del Señor de la Piedad y las celebraciones en su honor se
realizan siete días después de Semana Santa. El altar principal de la iglesia tiene una
imagen de Cristo Crucificado. Hay también retablos a la Virgen del Rosario, la virgen de
Guadalupe y San Juan Bautista.
14.31 El santuario de Atotonilco
El Santuario de Atotonilco, (que quiere decir lugar de aguas caliente, por los
manantiales cercanos), ha sido un lugar de adoración y peregrinaje desde su fundación
en 1740. El Santuario consiste del edificio principal y seis capillas adjuntas cuya
construcción duró más de 30 años en completarse. Las más de 206 piezas de arte religioso
conservadas en esta iglesia fueron ordenadas por el fundador de la iglesia, el Padre Luis
Felipe Neri de Alfaro. Los elaborados murales que cubren las paredes y los techos también
datan de esa época y se atribuyen al pintor queretano Antonio Martínez de Pocasangre.
Además de los sorprendentes murales al fresco en la iglesia, también se encuentran allí
tesoros de escultura barroca de ornato laborioso y espléndido y la venerada estatua del
señor de la Columna. La iglesia es un tesoro artístico.

15.1 Tours
15.1.1 La Ruta de las Capillas
Desde los tiempos prehispánicos a los modernos, la adoración, festividades e imágenes
asociadas a los dioses han formado parte esencial de la vida diaria, especialmente en las
comunidades rurales. Cada uno de estos pueblitos poco visitados cuenta con su capilla,
cada una de las cuales se enorgullece de cientos de años de tradición y devoción
particular.
15.1.2 Orquideario "Los Pocitos"
Se ubica en calle Santo Domingo. Cuenta con una muy diversa colección de orquídeas.
Abierto de lunes a viernes de 10:00 a 16:00 hrs., los sábados de 10:00 a 14:00 hrs. y los
domingos con previa cita.

15.1.3 Jardín Botánico CANTE
Se ubica en calle Mesones núm. 71. Se trata de un área especial protegida de 100 ha.
creada por la asociación civil CANTE, con el propósito de estudiar y observar el hábitat
natural de las especies nativas de la región. Parte de la reserva del jardín está dedicada a
la crianza de más de mil especies de cactáceas y orquídeas de diversas clases y orígenes.
15.1.4 El Cerro del Cubilete
Se ubica a 123 km al oeste de San Miguel de Allende. Este sitio es idóneo para practicar el
ala delta; cuenta con una pendiente moderada que sirve de rampa de salida.
15.1.5 Paracaidismo Aeropuerto Local de Celaya
Se ubica a 114 km al suroeste de San Miguel de Allende. En este sitio podrá vivir la
emoción del paracaidismo acompañado de un instructor, los saltos se realizan a 100,000
pies de altura, alcanzando velocidades de hasta 220 km/ h.
15.1.6 Excursión ½ Día
Su duración es de cinco horas de su salida de San Miguel hasta su llegada. El rancho
ganadero donde se comienza se encuentra a treinta minutos de San Miguel y el recorrido
es de 2 horas y media a caballo con una comida ranchera al final del recorrido. La
primera parte de la excursión lleva a los llanos que bordean el cañón. Los paisajes son
impactantes en cualquier dirección. Descendemos aproximadamente cuarenta minutos
hasta llegar al fondo de la cañada hasta llegar al río donde se hace una emocionante
cabalgata. Se cruza el rio y se galopa en varios puntos. A una orilla del río, se podrá
disfrutar de un descanso y aprovechar la opción de una caminata en búsqueda de
cuarzos. Ya finalizando el recorrido y en la cima de las peñas existe la opción de hacer
rappel. Después se continúa hasta el punto de origen donde se servirá la comida
ranchera en una de las casitas del rancho.
15.1.7 Excursión Día Completo
Su duración es de 8 horas. Empieza todo viendo como se hace la ordeña al igual que el
delicioso queso ranchero con la leche fresca. Se puede también ver como se hacen las
famosas tortillas de comal para luego montar y dirigirse al cañón. Otras actividades
incluidas: arrear el Ganado, nadar en el rio y explorar cuevas y caminos imposibles de
llegar a caballo. Esta excursión incluye dos comidas: una a la orilla del río y la otra en una
de las casas del rancho.
15.1.8 Excursión de 30 Horas
Para una verdadera aventura vaquera sensacional se recomienda esta excursión. Esta
aventura incluye todo lo anterior además de carreras a caballo, clases de como enlazar y
una fogata nocturna completa con cervezas frías para los adultos y malvaviscos y hot
dogs para los niños. Se cuenta con la opción de cabalgar bajo las estrellas así como
también una cabalgata al amanecer. Todo el equipo necesario está incluido.

Se ubica a 10 km de San Miguel de Allende por la carretera núm. 110 San Miguel de

14 TOURISTIC ATRRACTIONS
The best way to enjoy San Miguel de Allende is walking its typical streets full of colonial
mansions and beautiful temples. Some of the attractions you that can be found are:
14.1 El Jardin Principal
Central Square is undoubtedly the heart of the city. In the south you can appreciate the outline
of the San Miguel Parish. To the east and west you can find the arcade’s arches and colonial
buildings, and the Municipality at the north. However, is the garden itself wich attracts people to
sit in the wrought iron benches, under the laurel shadow, listening to the musicians play at the
central kiosk or just to sit and enjoy one of the many parades that pass by in the city.
14.2 Museo Casa Ignacio Allende
This two floor baroque building from the XVIII century, worked in stone and wrought iron is a
magnificent sample of the Spanish nobility constructions. It was the birthplace of Ignacio Allende
and today works as a museum with exhibitions that tell us about Allende’s role in the
Independence war, history and archaeology of the region.

14.3 Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel
The original parish was built towards the end of the XVII century; its design was very conventional
and modest. This changed dramatically in 1880 when the builder, Zeferino Gutiérrez, was
commissioned to create a new facade. It has been told that Zeferino Gutiérrez was inspired for
this design by engravings, draws and post cards of European cathedrals. The resulting neo-
gothic fantasy, in which the towers can be seen almost from every place in the city, have make
this marvel one of the most photographed in México.
14.4 Presidencia Municipal
The historic building of the Municipality was originally built in 1736, but there are very few remains
from the original architecture, it was partially destroyed many times. However, it is still very
important, because it was the formation site of the first independent Municipality of México,
established September 17th 1810.
14.5 Casa del Mayorazgo de la Canal
This neoclassic mansion was the residence of the rich and influential family De la Canal, today is
a bank’s branch office. It’s enormous carved door is not only a proof of the cabinet maker’s
ability, but also of the Canal family status.
14.6 Templo de la Inmaculada Concepcion
This church known locally as “las Monjas” or the Nuns, was originally built as a part of an
extensive housing complex and this days has become a convent of the Immaculate
Conception order. The church was built between 1755 and 1842, and the elegant dome was
built by Zeferino Gutiérrez in 1891.Once again he based his construction on a European historic
site, Les Invalides in Paris.
14.7 Centro Cultural Ignacio Ramirez “El Nigromante”
This center was originally a cloister of the neighbor convent; today is part of the Bellas Artes
National Institute and it is known in San Miguel de Allende simply as “Bellas Artes”. This center
offers painting, drawing, sculpting and dance, and it’s fame due to the famous murals found
inside, some of them work of the well-known Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros, former
teacher at this Institution. The complex has a museum, auditorium, two art galleries and a
charming little café at the patio.
14.8 Teatro Angela Peralta
Originally designed as an opera theatre, it was inaugurated in 1873, with the soprano Angela
Peralta, the most famous at that time, and known as the “The Mexican Nightingale”. Today,
more than 130 years after, is a very elegant gathering site of national and international artists
performing in jazz festivals and chamber music.
14.9 Librería Pública
Is the second largest library in México with books in English; dedicated to enrich the life of the
San Miguel students. This labyrinthine building has a very quite patio, a beautifully decorated
reading salon, a theatre and a computer center which offers instructions and internet service.

14.10 Plaza Civica
Originally built in 1555 aside of the Plaza de la Soledad, This Square was the population’s center
of activity; it was the gathering site at the time. These days the equestrian Ignacio Allende’s
statue dominates the square.
14.11 Mercado de Artesanias
Crafts market occupies a hiking path that covers three blocks, full of stalls selling folk art and
local crafts, silver jewelry, decorative items, souvenirs and much more.
14.12 Templo de Nuestra Señora de la Salud
Its from the eighteenth century and served as a chapel for the nearby school of St. Francis de
Sales. The facade is Churrigueresque and the porch is crowned by a giant carved Shell,
previously center by a single eye inside a triangle; an ancient symbol of the omnipresence of
God.
14.13 Oratorio San Felipe Neri
The construction of this church began in 1712, to have “appropriated” which was mulatto
population of San Miguel. The original chapel is the part that facing east of the oratory, and the
more modern baroque façade of soft pink stone facing south. In this church is also a small
chapel which the Canal family dedicated to the Virgin of Loreto in 1735, and features a replica
of the Holly House in Italy.
14.14 Templo de San Francisco
This church began building in 1778 and took more than 20 years to complete, will observe
different architectural changes according to time and fashion. The facade is pure
Churrigueresque (a style of figures carved stone and Sharp columns). However the bell tower,
built in 1799 by the famous architect, Francisco Eduardo Tresguerras, is a neoclassical style.
14.15 El Chorro
Built around one of the most tortuous and oldest streets of San Miguel this quiet park goes up to
the natural spring, the baths of the eighteenth century, a primitive chapel and the current
temple found in the upper. According to the legend, the chapel offers the first Christian
ceremony in San Miguel.
14.16 Parque Benito Juarez
A park and a garden founded at the beginning of the twenty-century, and were designed in
French style with fountains, ponds, wrought iron benches, old bridges, and wide roads and trails.
Is a recreational area with playgrounds, basketball courts, food courts, full of plants and trees of
the region.

14.17 Instituto Allende
La Canal family built this huge complex on the seventeenth century as a retirement place and a
hacienda. This antique house is full of interesting patios, a private chapel, in which you can see
some of the colonial frescos, and a modern art gallery and restaurant. In 1951 became an art
institute which offers courses from silverwork to craft and Spanish, annually attracts a hundred of
students.
14.18 Charco del Ingenio
Is located on the outskirts of San Miguel, is an ecological reserve and botanical garden that
works with private funds dedicated to the restoration and conservation of the Mexican flora and
promotes the flowering of the endangered species. The broad field is home to a conservatory of
Mexican plants, remains of a colonial aqueduct and a historic reserve home to native and
migratory birds. All the land is linked by roads ideal for cycling or walking and allows climbing the
walls of the canyon which offer excellent opportunities for bird watching.
14.19 Balnearios
You can relieve tension and soothe tired muscles in one of the many spas in the long road to
Atotonilco, sliding in to a fountain of steaming hot springs. This parks range from traditional with
picnics areas and cafeterias, the more familiar, when the children can enjoy playgrounds and
water parks, to those that offer spa services and fine dining. All have beautiful gardens and
several pools with temperatures fluctuating between 28 and 44 Celsius degrees. May have
indoor swimming pool, open air or sheltered stone caves, and it size ranges from the most
intimate to the Olympic-sized.
14.20 San miguelito
Here, is venerated San Miguel Archangel, it performs its own celebration 15 days after the feast
of San Miguel de Allende. The church contains religious images gathered by local residents for
generations.
14.21 Montecillo de nieto
This community is home to Señor Santiaguito church. The saint is celebratated on July 25 with an
all-night vigil, prayers, fireworks and, before Mass on Sunday, a horse race.
14.22 Rancho Nuevo de Banda
This community also celebrates the festivity of the Señor Santiaguito similar to Montecillo de
Nieto.
14.23 Comunidad de Banda
There are also two sites of interest to exploit in this community: a colonial dam dating from the
mid eighteenth century and the church dedicated to the baby Jesus. The main altar has an
image of Jesus Christ on a mirrored cross; below is figurine of a baby Jesus in a glass display
case. The side altars contain images of a San Isidro Labrador and the Virgin of Guadalupe.

14.24 San Isidro de bandita
May 15 mark the feast of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers, builders and this small
community. The church has a beautiful antique altar to San Isidro, flanked by the altarpieces of
the Virgin of Guadalupe, the Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos, and the altarpiece of the
Coronation of the Virgin.
14.25 Cruz del Palmar
The church of Cruz del Palmar don´t date of the same period that other churches in the path,
but with the colonial hacienda of the village, from the eighteenth century, adds interest and a
hint of splendor of its past.
14.26 Comunidad de Oaxaca
This community is home of the church of San Mateo. At the base of the main altar is a
polychrome wooden sculpture of San Mateo, at the top, a figure of Peruvian saint, San Martín
de Porres.
14.27 San Isidro Capadero
This community has two churches. The principal is dedicated to San Isidro Labrador; the second
is privately owned and is dedicated to the Three Kings, honored on January 6. At its altar is an
image of Christ in a mirrored cross and an altarpiece of the Three Kings.
14.28 Tierra Blanca de Abajo
Another church dedicated to San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers, and protector of
crops. Over time, the old church was abandoned and the image of San Isidro moved to a new
church.
14.29 Comunidad del Espejo
The patron saint of this community is Saint Joseph and his celebration is in March 19. The main
altar of the church represents Saint Joseph with baby Jesus and the Virgin: the Holy Family. The
side altarpieces are: of the Virgin of Carmen and the Saint Isidro Labrador.
14.30 Comunidad de Juan Gonzalez
This community is devoted of the Lord of Mercy and celebrations in his honor are held seven
days after Easter. The main altar of the church has an image of Christ Crucified. There also
altarpieces of the Virgin of the Rosary, the Virgin of Guadalupe and San Juan Bautista.

14.31 Santuario de Atotonilco
The sanctuary of Atotonilco, (which means place of the hot waters, by the spring near), has
been a place of worship and pilgrimage since its founding in 1740. The sanctuary is the main
building and six chapels attached whose construction lasted more than 30 years to complete.
The more than 206 pieces of religious art preserved on this church were ordained by the
church´s founder, Father Luis Felipe Neri de Alfaro. The elaborate murals that cover the wall and
ceilings dating from that era also and attributed to the painter from Queretaro Antonio Martinez
de Pocasangre. Plus the amazing fresco murals in the church, there are also treasures of
baroque ornamental sculpture laborious and splendid and the venerated statue of the Lord of
the Columns. The church is an artistic treasure.

15.1.3 Jardin Botanico CANTE
It´s located in Mesones #71. This is a special protected area of 100 ha. Created by the civil
association CANTE, with the porpoise to study and watch the natural habitat of the native
species of the region. Part of the reserve´s yard is dedicated to raising more than a thousand
species of cacti and orchid of various kind and origin.
15.1.4 El Cerro del Cubilete
It´s located at 123 km to the west of San Miguel de Allende. This site is suitable to practicing de
delta wing; has a moderate slope that serves as an exit ramp.
15.1.5 Skydiving Celaya Local Airport
It´s located at 114 km to the southeast of San Miguel de Allende. In this site you can live the
emotion of skydiving with an instructor; the jumps are performed to 1000,000 feet, reaching
speeds up to 220 km/ h.

15.1.6 ½ Day Excursion
Its duration is five hours of his departure from San Miguel to arrival. The cattle ranch where you
start is thirty minutes from San Miguel and the tour is two hours riding with a lunch wagon at the
end of the trail. The first part of the tour leads to the plains bordering the canyon. The views are
stunning in any direction. Descend approximately forty minutes to get to the bottom of the
canyon until we reach the river where we make an exciting ride. Cross the river and gallops at
various points. On a river bank, you can enjoy a break and take the option of a hike in search of
quartz. Ending the tour and at the top of the rocks there is the option of rappelling. Then
continue to the point of origin where the lunch wagon will be served in one of the ranch small
houses.
15.1.7 Full Day Excursion
Its duration is 8 hours. Everything starts looking like it is milking as well as the delicious ranchero
cheese with fresh milk. You can also see the famous tortilla made from the pan and then ride
and go to the canyon. Other activities included: herding cattle, swimming in the river and
exploring caves and roads impossible to reach at horseback. This excursion includes two meals:
one by the riverside and the other in one of the ranch small houses.
15.1.8 30 hours Excursion
For a real sensational cowboy adventure recommend this excursion. This excursion has all of the
above in addition to horse racing, roping classes and a night bonfire complete with cold beer
for adults and marshmallows and hot dogs for children. It has with the option of riding under the
stars as well as riding at sunrise. All necessary equipment is included.
15.1.9 Rancho El Xotolar

15.1.11 Balneario Escondido Place
Located at 10 km of San Miguel de Allende by highway numb. 110 San Miguel de Allende-
Dolores Hidalgo. There are nine pools, three of them spring-feed; its temperature is 40°C in the
hottest parts and 30°C in the coldest; also has large green areas, gardens, barbecues and a
restaurant-bar.
15.1.12 Balneario La Gruta
Located at 8.3 km of San Miguel de Allende by highway numb. 110 San Miguel de Allende-
Dolores Hidalgo. There are three pools of hot springs, one of them leads to a cave covered by a
dome of Stone, from which flow the spring that feeds them; water temperature is about 38°C.
Also offers services of lockers and showers, plus a good restaurant.

an ecological reserve de over a 100 ha, intended to the rescue and protection of the rich
wildlife of the region. On this site you can see endemic flora and extensive collection of Mexican
