Coolant / Heat Transfer Solutions for Refrigeration / Heating / Renewable Energy
1. Greenway ® Innovation Why change ?
Today: heat transfer mediums are derived from fossil sources:
Propylene glycol (MPG) is used in many applications (renewable energy, heating, refrigeration, air conditioning)
Ethylene glycol (MEG) is mainly used in industrial refrigeration

1. Greenway ® Innovation Why change ?
MPG must be approved where there is a risk of contact with food products
MPG has high viscosity at low temperatures
MEG, cheaper but harmful, cannot meet sanitary obligations
Because change has already happened!
Change of attitude towards the environment
Need for solutions for the renewable energy sector
Move from a "system“ approach to a “systemic" approach

• The Greenway® range consists of three heat transfer fluids derived entirely from a renewable resource called BIO 1,3-Propanediol (glucose syrup)
• Its production has an environmental benefit in terms of CO2 emissions and an energy footprint 40% lower than classic MPG
• Use Inhibitor pack developed by our R&D lab in order to offer long term protection to the system and its materials.
• In case of an accidental leak, the impact on the environment while using Greenway will be much lower than with an MEG

With BORAX !
1. Greenway ® Innovation Stop Borax : Focus on regulation
The European Decree 2005/58/CE from the 15th September 2008 puts Borax in the category 2 (toxic substances), and applies to all products containing at least 8.5% Borax.
Borax was put on the Substances of Very High Concern list by the European Chemicals Agency in June 2010
Borax is toxic!
Presence of Borax in products has to be mentioned of the related risks on the packaging:
R 60 : May impair fertilityR 61 : Risks of irrevocable damage to the child during pregnancy S 45 : In case of accident or discomfort see a doctor immediatelyS 53 : Avoid explosion, obtain special instructions before use

heat transfer fluid
Protective layer
Reduced or disturbed thermal exchange
Traditional mineral-based inhibitors Traditional or mineral inhibitors protect from corrosion by forming a protective layer on the wall of the installation, which can reduce heat transfer
Mineral inhibitors make physical deposits on sensitive areas
The silicates can form gels impacting on heat exchange

Metal, pipe wallMetal, pipe wall
Heat tranfer fluid
Molecular film, extremely small thickness that does not alter heat exchange
Optimized thermal exchange
Organic-based inhibitors
The organic inhibitorsonly absorb on the relevant corroded surfaces forming a protective molecular film, hence the optimized thermal transfer
The inhibitor does not react chemically and does not degrade over time
The electronic barrier that is created is the size of a molecule

5. Refrigeration application The General Direction of the Health and Safety Department Approval
The Climalife Greenway® BIO PDO based heat transfer fluids have the authorization of the French Health and Safety Department for the production of sanitary hot water via a simple exchange
A ‘food safe’ approval for coolants, as such, does not exist as Heat Transfer Fluids are not used as food ingredients,
however:Some have the approval of the French General
Direction of the Health and Safety Department as per the opinion given by the AFSSA for use in single exchangers or other approvals depending on the country
