OrGanized spOrt is
impOrtant It is a healthy way
of facilitating relationships
among employees and across
the organization - and between
the EBU broadcast members.
One of the many benefits
from being an active member
in your own EBU sports club
is participation in Eurovision
Sports.
Eurovision Sports is the
association representing all the
organized sports clubs within
the EBU. The goal and purpose is
to promote cooperation among
the employees during major
events as well as facilitating
networks, and the exchange
of professional and cultural
information. Often that has
inspired to new programs
and lead to new ways of
collaboration.
Eurovision Sports began more
than 50 years ago, ever since
twice annual EurovisionSport
competitions have been carried
out by the national sport clubs
along with national institutions
in an undetermined rotation.
Between 400-800 people
participate each year in the
summer games, and between
150-300 in the winter event.
Todays work place with rising
employee turn-over makes
its more difficult to form
continuation in day-to-day
work and relationsships among
employees internally, but also
externally. One of the fastest
and most cost-effective ways to
bond and facilitate cooperation
between colleagues is through
an active sports club and the
promotion of EurovisionSport.
We look forward to
strengthening EurovisionSport
and developing a more attractive
national sports club with you

Greenland, and not at least
to the beautiful surroundings
of Sisimiut. Sisimiut is not only
a pure pleasure to the eye but
holds optimal surroundings
for winter sports. The annual
Arctic Circle Race has drawn
distinguished international
attention for years. The
spectacular Arctic cross-
country race has given good and
useful experience in arranging
international sporting events.
Greenland has plenty to offer
our tourists: If you look to the
North, to Ilulissat, it is possible
to see enormous ice bergs at
the UNESCO World Heritage
sit. If you travel to South
Greenland you experience a
whole different kind of nature
and in East Greenland you get a
very different nature with rough
mountain peaks and deep fiords.
I am happy to greet you all to
our beautiful country

eurOvisiOn spOrts DR has
chosen Sisimiut, Greenland
because of Greenland’s global
importance. Many world leaders
have visited Greenland to
witness global climate change,
and to establish relations with
one of the world’s last natural
resource frontiers.
- Greenland holds the 2nd largest amount
of freshwater reserves in the world. The
ressource has a significant commercial
potential for three segments, firstly as a
source of clean energy to North America
as a hydro power export item. Secondly as
a cost-effective ressource for energy-
intensive industry in Greenland, such
as primary aluminium production, and
thirdly as clean water products and water
ressources for the diminishing water
reserves in urbanized regions of the world.
- Greenland has a giant multi-element
deposit (REEs-uranium-zinc) located near
the southwest tip of Greenland. A project
that potentially could supply >20% of
global REE-demand and be an important
alternative to the Chinese monopoly of
this important green-tech ressource.
- A 2008 United States Geological Survey
estimates that areas north of the Arctic
Circle have 13% of the expected undiscov-
ered oil in the world. Greenland has one
the largest territories north of the Arctic
Circle.
- Greenland has a cruise ship industry po-
tential that exceeds that of Alaska—the
world’s 3rd largest cruise ship destination.
Several billion dollar investments are
currently being prepared in Greenland and
compared to its small population of 57.000
inhabintants these projects represent
a huge per capita investment and will
significantly influence the future direction
and development of Greenland.
With Eurovision Sports in Sisimiut,
Greenland we invite you to get personally
acquainted with Greenland.
We, the organizing committee will intro-
duce you to premier wintersports venues
in and around Sisimiut. Whether you’re an
alpine enthusiast, cross- country special-
ist or just a plain and simple winter sports
lover, we anticipate a fantastic and unfor-
gettable event for all in Greenland!

”I am pleased that you have chosen our
beautiful spot for this great event and I
am sure that you will get some fantastic
days of competition and fun. The unique
surroundings of Sisimiut offer plenty of
opportunities for unforgettable nature
experiences and tough challenges for
every participant. Sisimiut is character-
ized by the mountain Nasaasaaq – an
obvious symbol of our city. Under it’s
foot 6.000 people live in close relation
to nature – and indeed have done so for
4.500 years. The back country of Sisimiut
has extraordinarily good conditions for
traditional caribou and musk ox hunting,
and Inuit dog sledding.
The very same conditions uphold the
world’s toughest race on skis – the Arctic
Circle Race. This means stable weather
conditions with low degrees and lots of
snow from October untill early May. A visit
in March thus gives you a taste of true
Polar winter. Enjoy your stay and grab
the opportunity to experience some of
that special Sisimiut township feeling of
warmth, openness and joy”.
Qeqqata Kommunia
five key values of Qeqqata
Municipality represent
the principles we want to
pursue for a better and more
sustainable future. We have
taken steps towards growth by:
–Focusing on giving the
Greenland youth good conditions
for studying, in an international
environment and meeting
international standards
–Focusing on developing our
harbour facilities, to meet the
needs of oil industries and cruise
tourism.
–Focusing on developing our
enormous cultural and industrial
assets, through a 15-year-plan.
–Focusing on sustainable
and green solutions in the
construction and building
industry.
–Caring for our citizens, toddler
and senior citizens by meeting
them eye to eye in open dialogue.
The ressources of Qeqqata
Municipality are plentiful. And we
would like to share.

“I am happy that the Sports Association
of Denmark’s Radio together with KNR
can welcome our participants to Eurovi-
sion Sports 2012 in Sisimiut, Greenland.
Especially because this returning event,
which since its first opening festival in the
summer of 1958 and the winter sports
festival in 1972, contributes to establish-
ing networks across EBU.
The event in Greenland is therefore more
than just participating in different com-
petitions. It is also about having fun, about
strengthening our community across
nations, and about forming new colleague-
to-colleague relations.
“It gives me great pleasure to welcome
employees from the EBU’s TV and Radio
Broadcasters to the 41st Winter Eurovi-
sionsport 2011 in Sisimiut, Greeenland.
Greenland has a breathtaking and unique
nature, ranging from beautiful white
mountains in winter over large green
plains in summer to the permanent white
icecap.
As part of the Kingdom of Denmark,
Greenland is a special place on earth,
where the extreme forces of nature rule.

The event takes place in the town Sisimiut
in Greenland and will offer traditional
competitions for the winter sports festi-
val, social interaction, and a great chance
to get unique experiences in Greenland’s
impressive nature. In other words, there is
plenty to look forward to.
Finally, I just want to add that I hope you
will enjoy this event and that you will get a
great week with unforgettable memories
– both colleague-to-colleague as well as
sports-wise – but also from the Greenland
that I personally appreciate the most.
Have a very good time!“
A beautiful sunny and cold day can change
within minutes to a blistering storm that
leaves you with no other option than to
seek shelter. However, regardless of the
weather conditions, as a visitor you always
feel the welcoming presence and warmth
of the population in Greenland.
I hope you will enjoy the cultural and
sporting activities during your visit, and
that the entire experience will give you
a fond memory of a very special place in
the world.”
We wish to thank all of our partners in making it possible for the
organizing commtte to meet all of its obligations in a proffesional
manner. It is an attractive event for our partners operating either
nationally or internationally since it involves participants from radio
and television stations from ten different nations.
