Rummy Class with Geraldine
Friday, October 5, 2018 • 11:00 a.m. • Springs
The history of rummy could be traced back to the first game of draw
and discard pattern - the Chinese card game of Mah Jong. This game
was first developed during the Tang dynasty in China over 1000
years ago. Hanafuda became a popular gambling game with
different card designs in the mid 17th century. Join Geraldine as she
teaches you this classic and easy game.

The ShakeOut Drill is
scheduled for 10:18 a.m. on
October 18, 2018. This means
that wherever you are at that
moment you should Drop,
Cover, and Hold On as if there
were a major earthquake
occurring at that very moment, and stay in this position for at least
60 seconds. Last year, was our first go around at this drill and it
was great success. This year we plan to up our plans and help
residents and associates be prepared, so when the "big one" does
hit we will be ready. Ronn will kick off this event by hosting a
lecture the week prior to the ShakeOut. His lecture will focus on
the Carlotta Disaster Plan and also the Communities Disaster
Response. If you are interested in lending a helping hand please
see Ronn for more information.
GreatCaliforniaShakeOut
Exciting new discoveries about eating
on time and the timers within our cells,
trillions of them, priming our bodies to
work efficiently through the changing of
the seasons. Science has always been
focused on the "What": what drugs we
give our bodies to treat diseases, what
we eat to lose weight. Up until now, we
haven't just underestimated time, we've
completely ignored its role. We're now
starting to see that when can be just as
important to our bodies. Did you know
that the keeping our meal intake on a
consistent schedule helps our cognitive
skills stay healthy to the point where
older people perform as well as younger
people. We need to remember to follow
our schedules and proper diets.
Drinking plenty of water in the cooler
months is also very important to stay
hydrated and process our meals.
Path to Well-Being
Echo, the newest member of our community would like to share the
following: “I am so happy to have found my new home at the Carlotta, I
really feel that I have hit the doggy jackpot! Although I’ve only been able
to visit during the day this month, it already feels like home. Everyone has
been so receptive and welcoming. Here’s a little about me, I’m a Siberian
Husky but I’ve never been to Siberia. My vet thinks I am about two years
old, but no one is really certain. I was found as a stray in Rancho Mirage
and put in ‘puppy prison’ where I stayed for the past two months. I was
fortunate to receive an invitation to The Camp Carlotta Barking Lot
dedication last month and was certain to be on my best behavior. So much
so, that the decision was made to adopt me. I’m available for walks & trips
to The Barking Lot anytime I’m here, by letting the front desk know.
