15 May 2020—15 June 2020 Go Turquoise for the Elderly Campaign .
Go Turquoise for the Elderly Campaign has been recognised in the National list awareness days. Its purpose is to create
awareness about the elderly in our communities, especially those not accommodated by institutions for the elderly , thus
being more at risk.
As a token of our appreciation for the old and wise every Friday for four
weeks Niemeyer Memorial Hospital hosted a turquoise corner for the
elderly with fruit baskets to cheer up the elderly and promote their
health in our own small way.
15 June 2020 World Elderly Abuse Awareness Day.
With a growing population of elderly people and as longevity increases,
abuse of the elderly is an increasing and serious problem that affects
health and human rights and can cause death, so it is vital to raise aware-
ness of it an thus prevent it wherever possible. On the 15th of June 2020
we took on the streets to offer the elderly bran muffins and oranges with
sweet note of kindness to the elderly.

June 16 Youth Day Commemoration 2020
The theme for this year’s Youth Month is “Youth Power”
We deemed it essential to heed the call to honour and remember the Youth of 1976, however
there are many challenges that we now face as well as the youth of this Era. The message we
attempted to pass as Niemeyer Memorial Hospital to our community young and old is that the
power lies in everyone's hands to change the society. We encouraged everyone to make a per-
sonal pledge to help society shape its cause in a positive direction, we also gave out personal-
ized handcrafted bookmarkers to encourage a reading nation.

Niemeyer Memorial Hospital does not support the killing of
young Women and Children.
We pay tribute to all the women and children lost
to gender based violence
Rest in Power. You are not forgotten.
Since the start of level 3 of the National
Covid-19 lockdown, there has been an
increase in violent crime against women
and children.
South Africa has among the highest levels
of intimate partner violence in the world,
with 51% women experiencing violence in
a relationship.
More than 50% of women murdered in
2009 were killed by an intimate partner
The President of South Africa has declared
gender based violence an emergency.
For the sake of Women everywhere Don’t look
away
If you are able to help prevent another tragedy
Don’t look away
Break the silence
There is always
someone willing to
listen.
Not all men are the same
