DIE OFFER

VAN MY WIL

I was thinking about North and South Americathe other day as one does when one is sittingin Benoni at a Spur restaurant. For somereason I was thinking about why NorthAmerica was ‘wealthy’ and that SouthAmerica wasn’t. One is ‘first world’ and theother is well … ‘third world’.I have a notionthat when the Spanish settled in SouthAmerica they went there for the gold. Whenthe Pilgrim Fathers went to North Americathey went for God.The focus on spirit andsomething bigger than themselves and goldgave the Pilgrims an unshakeable purpose. They went to America to find the religiousfreedom they couldn’t in Britain at the time.Ithink that’s what made all the difference. So,maybe this is true for us too. When we’re sofocused on our paycheques and lose sightof what’s important we have third worldthinking.I believe that the human being wasput on this earth for something more thanjust the gold.We were put here to answer acalling and to follow a path with heart. Ofcourse, the trick is for each of us to find thatcalling in our own way. And, that’s the tough

Ds. Jan Keyser. AMEN

part. To find our purpose we need to takethat road less travelled by and go in searchof knowledge. We need to use the knowledgeto fight and overcome our inner battles sothat we can find the authentic essence withinin us. We need to be clear as to how we canmake something meaningful in the short spaceof time we have.I, like you, live in the realworld too. So, I’m not against ‘gold’ at all. I’mjust saying that gold must not be our focusbecause there’s no way it can make us happy, ultimately. In our striving for purpose andmeaning I’m of the opinion that we would bebetter served by focusing on Saraswati (thegoddess of knowledge, music and art) andnot on Lakshmi (the goddess ofwealth).Because you already know how itworks. When we focus on Saraswati, Lakshmigets curious and follows.Because when youfind your purpose your heart will sing andgood fortune will follow.
