How will I be taught?
You will not be working in the way you have worked in Year 9 this year. It is traditional
teaching methods rather than learning through the news, but a knowledge of what is happening in the world right now will help
you a lot.
There are two tiers of entry –
Higher tier (A* – D)
Foundation tier (C – G)
Field Trips
Currently the GCSE residential trip is to
Swanage, Dorset. It lasts for 3 days and all students are
expected to attend.
How will you be assessed? Your Geography GCSE is made up of three parts:
This makes up 25% of your final mark. There are two pieces of work that need to be done.One piece is 1200 words long and is based on a fieldtrip.The other piece of work is 800 words long and you get to choose a title from a list of topics.
Part 1 – Controlled assessment (the new name for coursework)
Part 2 – Exam 1 – Decision Making
This is worth 25% of your grade and is an decision making exam based on the work done in lessons.
Part 3 – Exam 2 – Key Themes
This exam is worth 50% and tests your knowledge and understanding of the issues studied.
