GATEWAY TO THE HILLTOP
The Office of Admission at Howard University would like to introduce our quarterly alumni newsletter, Gateway to the Hilltop. Gateway to the Hilltop endeavors to ensure the best and brightest students across the United States and worldwide have access to an unparalleled education on Howard University’s hilltop campus. While the Office of Admission is happy to act as a gateway to the Hilltop, we also recognize the vital role our alumni volunteers play in our recruitment efforts every year. This newsletter will serve as an organ to keep you abreast of Office of Admission events, ways to remain involved and engaged with our recruitment efforts, and to cast well deserving spotlights on the wonderful events and endeavors our alumni facilitate.

Howard University
Our New RecruitsThe Office of Admission has experienced the distinct pleasure of gaining several new staff members over the past months. We hired an associate director of admission, two new recruitment officers, a transfer coordinator, an events coordinator and an admission representative. These new positions enhance the level of service the Office of Admission provides the Howard University community and the world beyond.

Price
Latrina Fisher became the associate director of admission at Howard University Admission in fall 2014. She is joining us from Georgia Perimeter University where she was a seasoned recruitment officer. At Howard Mrs. Fisher oversees the daily operations of the Welcome Center, our Recruitment team, and serves as our international recruitment officer.
Debbie Price is our transfer coordinator. Debbie joined the Howard University Office of Admission team Spring 2015. She is currently focusing all her attention on transfer students, transfer articulations transfer equivalencies. She is coming from Central Georgia Technical College where she has worked in Student Affairs and Academic Affairs for 7 years.
Krystal Johnson is one of our domestic recruitment officers. Ms. Johnson joins us from St. Augustine Catholic School in Dallas, Texas with a strong background in education and college readiness. She is primarily responsible for recruiting on Howard University’s behalf in the southern region of the United States.
Chandra Hicks is our events coordinator. She spearheads all admission and recruitment events for Howard University. Ms. Hicks joined the Howard University team in the fall of 2014 from American University .
Kia Gedeon is an admission representative. She manages the university’s campus tour calendar, supervises eighty-five Office of Admission Student Ambassadors, and works closely with the Events Coordinator to assist with the planning and execution of Admission events. She can answer your inquiries about bringing groups and family to Howard University.
Bison Brunches
Accepted students were also able to learn more about the resources and opportunities available to them at Howard that are geared specifically towards their intended majors.
The HUAC of Houston co-hosted the Howard University Bison Brunch for Accepted Students on Saturday, March 28th, 2015. In total, 39 students attended with a total guest count of approximately 120 people (including alumni representatives). This was a very successful event as 28 of the 39 student attendees confirmed their attendance (72% commitment rate). This event welcomed students from the following states: TX, LA and OK.
The HUAC of Los Angeles co-hosted the Howard University Bison Brunch for Accepted Students on Sunday, March 29th, 2015. In total, 70 students attended with a total guest count of approximately 220 people (including alumni representatives). This was a very successful event as 46 of the 70 student attendees confirmed their attendance (66% commitment rate). This event welcomed students from the following states: CA and NV.
This March the Office of Admission began a new initiative entitled Bison Brunch. Howard University sent an admission representative to select cities to host an exclusive brunch for admitted students. While prospective students enjoyed a special buffeted brunch being held in their honor, they were also able to network with Howard alumni from their hometown and glean more information about the Howard experience.
ACCEPTED STUDENT DAY
This year the Office of Admission at Howard University was delighted to host over 600 perspective students on our hilltop campus as they made their final decision about attending Howard University for the 2015-2016 academic year. Students and their families were able to hear from our university President, Mr. and Mrs. Howard 2015, and see performances by our marching band, the Afro Blue jazz ensemble among other distinguished people and lauded organizations on campus. Accepted Students Day also gave admitted students the opportunity to meet famous alumni such as: television personality Omarosa and Washington, D.C. radio personality Angie Ang. 266 students who attended accepted students day committed to joining us this fall!
Howard Near You!
To help spread the word about our academics, student life, and application process, our admission representatives will travel the globe to visit high schools, attend college fairs, and host informational receptions this fall. We especially need help from our valued alumni to spread the word about our beloved Hilltop. Howard University thrives because of its strong and dedicated alumni network. Please join our recruitment officers at fairs and receptions when they are in your region.
