GALACTICO is a 3‐year EC‐funded research project launched inOctober 2010. The project is focusing on the development of photonicintegrated circuits for next generation coherent terabit optical Ethernet.

GALACTICO targets:100 Gb/s PM‐QPSK transmitter and receiver256 Gb/s PM‐16QAM transmitter 512 Gb/s DWDM PM‐16QAM transmitter and receiverDemonstration of up to  1.28 Tb/s with  multi‐carrier 32QAM

To address cost, performance and volume GALACTICO aims to utilize the

most established integration materials such as InP and GaAs for eachspecific opto‐electronic function and to combine them on a silicon‐on‐insulator integration platform.
