CUT SOCCER
TEAM MAKES
HISTORY IN
SOUTH AFRICA
Chinhoyi University of
Technology student
soccer team affection-
ately known as “the
football technocrats”
defied all odds in for-
eign lands when the
team lifted not only the
University’s flag high up
but as the country’s
football representa-
tives, they did the na-
tion proud when they
brought a bronze medal
during the 8th All Africa
University Games held
in South Africa from the
26th June to the 3rd
July 2016.
There were a total of
thirty-five Universities
from all over the African
continent that com-
peted in various sport-
ing disciplines and CUT
managed a bronze
medal in soccer and
came an overall 27th
position in medal rank-
ing because the Univer-
sity was represented by
just one sporting disci-
pline. (contd to pp.2)
C.P.S. OFFICER FOILS ROB-
BERY OF A CUT STUDENT
On Thursday July 21, 2016, a Chinhoyi
University of Technology Campus Protec-
tion Services (CPS) Assistant, formerly
Security Guard Mr. Israel Paradza (who
was on ordinary leave) foiled an at-
tempted robbery of a level 2.1 Account-
ing CUT undergraduate student Simon
Bobo Registration Number C15126004J
who resides at House number 4272 Cold
Stream who had been robbed of one
thousand one dollars (US$1 100,00)
meant for tuition and accommodation
fees when he single-handedly gave
chase to two conmen(Stuart Andy Phiri
of Gadzema suburb and Alex Gavel Ma-
risa of Gun Hill) who had robbed the
unsuspecting student of his cash. Later
with the help of members of the Chin-
hoyi community public in Cold Stream
suburb, the two suspects were appre-
hended and handed over to Chinhoyi
Central Police. The two appeared in
court on Saturday July 23, 2016 to an-
swer theft charges. All the money was
recovered much to the relief of the stu-
dent.

Narrating his ordeal to CUT Weekly in a telephone interview, Simon Bobo
said the two conmen made him believe that one of them was coming from
Mozambique with bales of second hand clothes and they were in dispute
over payments hence they approached him to help settle their misunder-
standing. They produced a faked blue receipt all in the vein to confuse Simon
while at the same time pick-pocketing his cash. One of them is said to have
been speaking in some kind of Mozambican language and some broken Eng-
lish. When Simon could not make head or tail of this cooked-up dispute, he
decided to leave them. After walking for close to thirty metres, Simon real-
ised that all his cash had varnished. All this happened at the foot-road/rail
level crossing along the footpath that leads from the Chinhoyi Provincial Hos-
pital into town, behind the School of Art and Engineering Building Complex.
He began to give chase shouting, “Thieves! Thieves! Thieves!” and Mr Israel
Paradza who was coming from the Cold Stream direction intercepted the
two. He gave chase through the sewer stream and apprehended Alex and
left him in the custody of members of the public before he went for Stuart
who was hiding in the bush around the same area. Paradza searched the
culprits and recovered the stolen cash. He apprehended the two suspects
and handed them over to ZRPolice.
Chinhoyi University of Technology Campus Protection Services Department is
commended for having such dedicated, committed and hardworking officers
who can even sacrifice their own lives when it comes to protecting the lives
and property of our dear students and staff. This is not the first time that Mr.
Paradza has apprehended miscreants within the University. Some few years
ago while stationed at the Engineering Complex building site, he got his hand
fractured when he was hit by an iron-bar when he arrested thieves who had
stolen some building materials that were kept there. We at CUT Weekly,
thank the CPS management for having highly motivated personnel among
their ranks who give justification for their establishment in the University
system. CUT security personnel are former ZRPolice or former ZNArmy or
Z.Prison and Correctional Services members who are also further trained by
the University through the ZRPolice and the able guidance from their Man-
agement that include the CPS Chief Manager Mr.Abram Miti, his Deputy Mr.
Tinei Hilton Kasonde and CPS Officer Mr Leonard Mabasa.
Many a former member of the CPS (Security) Department where-ever are
now working in different University departments and sections, they are
known for their hard work, honesty and dedication to duty. We recommend
that Mr.Paradza and people of the like quality and mind be rewarded ac-
cordingly because parents will rest assured that their children are safe study-
ing at Chinhoyi University of Technology. Non-residential students and resi-
dential students at CUT are quite safe with such a team of security person-
nel. We remain as indeed “a CUT above the rest”. A big hand of applause
goes to Mr.Paradza in particular and the CPS Department in general for such
sterling efforts and heroic acts. Members of this Department should con-
tinue to shine like beacons and those who are like wolf in sheep should
never be allowed to tarnish the good name of this Department by stealing
from the areas they guard.

(contd from pp. 1 Prof.Ruzvidzo donates)
During a brief hand-over ceremony officiated by the University Acting Vice Chancel-
lor Professor Justice Nyamangara and attended by Deans, chairpersons and heads of
sections/department held at the Biotechnology laboratory on Wednesday July 20,
2016, the oratory Professor said, “This donation comes with the realization that I’m
doing this for my home and having observed that the previously donated smaller
equipment was being put to good use. Once there is such equipment in the Univer-
sity, this gives the impetus for building collaborations and co-publication efforts that
would benefit the students. In the event that the machine breaks down, I’ll be very
available to make it functional once again as this would help me send even my stu-
dents from down South on an exchange programme who can come and use the
same equipment.”
Professor Nyamangara in his acceptance remarks thanked Professor Ruzvidzo for
such a worth donation that will go a long way to help equip the Biotechnology labo-
ratory. “Technology is becoming compact, hence it’s not about receiving very big
equipment but the most efficient and modern gadgets that will help us in research
and teaching. We are a small University, growing but we have big visions and minds.
We are the leading light in the government-initiated Science Technology Engineering
& Mathematics (STEM) and an addition of well-equipped laboratory equals more
students learning science related degree programmes.”
It is also gratifying to note that Professor Ruzvidzo was also instrumental in helping
Professor Enock Jonathan to acquire Seeding labs equipment. Besides the Protein
Purification and Refolding System that he donated to the University, the North-West
University based Professor also donated small other items whose impact has been
described as phenomenal as he did it out of his big heart and these include among
others 1.5ml Epperndoff tubes, Blue Pipette tips, Yellow Pipette Tips, White Pipette
Tips, Electrophuretic System, four way Power- pack, thirteen staplers and staples and
NWU branded pens.
In closing remarks, the Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Edson Gandiwa, who is
also the Dean of the School of Wildlife, Ecology and Conservation said that he wel-
comed such a donation at the hour of the University’s need because “we are still
‘thin’ on equipment. You are a CUT ambassador out there. I convey my gratitude also
to Dr Mlambo and Prof.Jonathan for working hand-in-glove with the School of Agri-
cultural Sciences and Technology.”

tural Sciences & Technology Professor S.M.Makuza. Far left is the Protein Purification & Re-
folding System that was donated by Prof Ruzvidzo.
Save us, or whether we will go back to Egypt.
Exodus 14 vs 10-13
Brethren, I greet you once again in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us share the word of God from an incident that oc-curred during the time of Moses the servant of God.
From the above chapter, we understand that, Moses led the Israelites from the nation of bondage, where they were slaves and strongly influenced and con-trolled by the Egyptians. The journey was okay on departure. Testimonies were given that the lord had set them free. But here comes a challenge when they were at red sea. It was very im-possible to cross it in the physical way, but very easy spiritually. There are some situations in our lives that require the spiritual force, not physical or stay-away.
We should resist the power of the Egyptians not by carnal or physical force, but through con-stant prayers and determination to God’s word. Let us bear the spirit of boldness and audacious to overcome the Egyptians. I am against our colleagues, who de-sire the life of serving the Egyp-tians not from their own will, choice or personal decision, but due to Pharaoh’s horses and chariots. I mean hardships, finan-cial constraints, pressure, disap-pointment, setbacks, and failures in life. We should focus CANAAN, our PROMISE, and forget EGYPT our BONDAGE.
I like Moses’ response to Israel-ites, “ ....do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliver-ance the lord will bring you to-day. The Egyptians you see today, you shall see them no more for-ever” Exodus 14 verse 13
Today I’m standing before you brethren, holding Moses’ stick on my hand, addressing you as a servant of God, ‘Stand firm, be still, and do not panic! The hard-ship you are facing today, you shall never face it again in the name of Jesus. I declare a way on the red sea. Let the Israelites pass. Let them enjoy the promise of the Lord. I command every horse and chariot of Pharaoh to drawn right now in the red sea. Let them sink forever. No more hardships! No more setbacks! You have to reach Canaan, the Promised Land in Jesus’ name. STAY BLESSED!

THE OBSERVER:
- By the-insider-on-the-outside
..Of the right hand not knowing
what the left is doing…the good
corporate reputation of CUT
versus bad practices…
May I send my apologies for being absent
when I was actually present. I get at times
engrossed in certain issues that need all my
four eyes both front and back but this time
around I have thought to talk about what
other people might not have noticed like Chin-
hoyi University of Technology has indeed be-
come the preferred brand as a fertile hunting
ground for human capital development for
other corporate organizations, that includes
sister Universities. I cannot be said to have
overdone it, I mean “it” by bragging that Chin-
hoyi University of Technology or simply CUT is
“ a cut above the rest” as it cuts better cuts
that seem to be cutting good cuts in Zim-
babwe, around the sub-region and globally. I
can safely say that because I have of late ob-
served a lot of our members being sought
after and some being assigned to several
Boards of Directors. This is an indicator that
we are an excellent pot that cooks only the
best and which also seem to have a scramble
for many takers. Let me exemplify what I
mean here.
The man at the helm himself, “Chihwa” as the
Vice Chancellor is affectionately known, well,
don’t begrudge me for coming from the same
roots as the man is also a leading light by sit-
ting on a number of Board of Directors, nota-
bly the TIMB and is instrumental in the setting
up of a Manicaland-based University, Mr.
Micheal Musanzikwa- a lecturer in the Depart-
ment of Supply Chain Management was ap-
pointed to the State Procurement Board (SPB)
last year by His Excellency, the President of
the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde R.G.Mugabe,
our own Mr.Friedrick Chinyemba- formerly
with the School of Art & Design assumed na-
tional Directorship of the country’s Examina-
tion Board - Zimsec in Harare, while Dr Biggie
Samwanda, formerly a Chairman in the School
of Art and Design was also taken by the Minis-
try of Rural Development, Promotion and
Preservation of National Culture & Heritage as
Director for Culture, Heritage & Arts with ef-
fect from 1May 2016. We have had our former
Senior Assistant Registrar (Human Resources,
Non-Academic) Ms. Colleta Musara taken over
by Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) as its
Deputy Registrar (HR). Thandiwe Chivasa, the
former Director of Campus Life and Student
Development Programmes was snapped by
GZU. Dr.Hilton Hakurotwikufa Chikuya, a for-
mer Dean in the then Institute of Lifelong
Learning that once housed the then Depart-
ment of Creative Art and Design was also
taken aboard by the Zimbabwe Council of
Higher Education (ZIMCHE) in a higher portfo-
lio. Who forgets that Lupane State University
(LSU) have our former Pro-Vice Chancellor
Professor Pardon Kusaziwa Kuipa as its Vice
Chancellor. Indeed, the list is endless and I risk
running out of space here.
Our Students are also doing wonders upon
completion and even during their studies.
Many of our students are making waves in
industry and commerce. Our own Farai Ti-
notenda Munodawafa was voted a Young
Manager of the Year in 2013 for his exploits in
Travel and Tour industry with his own corpo-
rate company called FT Travel and the Univer-
sity boosts of an Entrepreneurship Incubation
centre which houses more than twenty func-
tional companies. Then I don’t need to con-
tinue reminding you that we are the only Uni-
versity in the country that is a proud owner of
two L**hotels which have won awards. Our,
forgive me to say “my” University’s School of
Hospitality and Tourism made “me” proud
when they won yet another accolade when
they were rewarded the best hospitality train-
ing institution in the country at the recently
held Sanganai Hlanganani Expo.
Allow me, with your indulgence, to play the
clearing role also here as I call upon sanity to
prevail within our great University for mem-
bers of different Schools and Departments to
desist from tarnishing the reputation of “my”
University by moving around with begging
bowls everywhere. I have it on good record
that many of our colleagues have
turned themselves into some kind of
side road blind beggars when seeking
sponsorship and/or funding for their
various activities within the Univer-
sity. At the end of the day the name
of University is soiled in the process
of seeking funding and/or donations.
Not that there is anything quite
wrong with it but the propensity has
indeed gone out of hand. Some cor-
porate organizations are so over-
whelmed with several donation re-
quests from this University such that
they really don’t know which depart-
ment and who to assist. When I spoke to the
Director of Marketing & Public Relations Mr.
Musekiwa Cliton Tapera about this issue, he
told me that while there is no written down
policy on the issue of asking for donations
from external stakeholders, there was a need
for all sections and/or departments to do so
through the Marketing & PR Department
which is in the Vice Chancellor’s Office. This
will enable to sift and advice sections and/or
departments of similar requests sent to the
same external organization(s).
Centralising donation requests will help solve
a problem of congested donation requests
thereby relegating us to becoming a bunch of
beggars who go around with begging bowls to
an already overburdened corporate sector.
We should find alternative funding streams
than to depend on donations as the donors
have enough financial burdens on their shoul-
ders. We should try other means of finding
revenue streams that do not seem to put the
reputation of this University in bad light out
there. I’m quite aware that we are grappling
with economic challenges but there should be
some kind of sanity that comes from this end.
It is my hope and trust that you will perceive
this with the positivity it deserves. I, for sure
advocate for a policy formulation that compels
all sections/departments and Schools to pro-
vide a central office with their calendar of
events and how they intend to fund such ac-
tivities and which external organizations they
intend to appeal for donation requests. The
Directorate of Resource Mobilization and the
Marketing and Public Relations should spear-
head such activities than to have everyone
appealing for donations willy-nilly, without
order and precedence. I rest my case and
those with ears to hear have heard me.
Yours truly

SPORT CHINHOYI UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
TAKES PART IN 2016 CHANCELLOR’S
GAMES.
Sporting disciplines from the Chinhoyi University of
Technology Staff members competed at this year’s
Zimbabwe State Universities Chancellor Staff Games
that were held at Great Zimbabwe University from
11th to 18th July 2016. All games were held at the
host University’s Mashava Campus where CUT’s
sporting teams failed to rediscover the form that
had made them a power-house in the previous edi-
tions including the preceding one that they hosted.
In soccer, CUT’s men team found the going tough
when they fell by a solitary goal to their proverbial
adversaries, University of Zimbabwe in the semi-
final. They managed a bronze medal when they
trounced National University of Science & Technol-
ogy (NUST) by three goals to nil. In netball, CUT
came an agonising second place, in darts they came
4th, in pool they were outplayed hands down not
that they were not able but the games are said have
been played concurrently with other games and
some of the players were involved in those games.
In volleyball, the Dr Tada-led team came fourth.
Chinhoyi University of Technology teams were pale
shadows of teams that swept all the trophies in the
previous editions and this could be much attributed
to less numbers of athletes that the University went
with. However, it should be known that the old ad-
age that says you win some and lose some also ap-
plies hence it was the time for other Universities to
steal the show.
