A WORD FROM PASTOR TIM
Dear FPC Family and Friends,
June means the regular school year is wrapping up.
Congratulations to our graduates!
Speaking of youth, I couldn’t be more pleased for
FPC’s middle school and hi school students, their
friends and others in the neighborhood who can look
forward to a summer filled with activity,
friendship and spiritual growth. We had an
energetic gathering of committed parents after worship
on May 18, during which we gave shape to the summer.
We also announced Norma Galvan’s part-time
ministry with FPC this summer, coordinating
our efforts with youth in close partnership with
parents and other adults.
At that meeting, Norma offered three things – two
questions and a challenge.
1) What is your spiritual target for your family? (Do
you have spiritual goals for your household, let alone
for your own life?)
2) Who has the hearts of your kids?
3) Let’s claim the hearts of our kids!
I’m excited! As Norma put it in so many words, “Let’s
claim the hearts of our youth for Jesus Christ! See this
issue of the PRESS for a calendar of events and more
info.
June means Fathers’ Day. And youth need their
fathers and father figures. Let’s pray for our men
as they step up and join our commitment to claim the
hearts of kids for Him.
As I write I am in between the two phases of surgery on my
nose, the second phase to be completed on Friday, May 23. I
plan to be back in the pulpit and assisting in worship on June 1st,
although I will be bandaged from a portion of my forehead down
the bridge of my nose and to its reconstructed tip. This bandaging
will continue for several weeks with the attending healing to
progress thru the summer. I’m so sorry for the distraction and
even the distress this may cause you. I’ll be functioning and fine,
but a bit restricted in activity in June. Thank you so much for
your prayers, support and understanding.
Finally, I will again address our financial situation on June 1.
Our giving has not kept pace with pledges made and last
year’s levels. We are being quite conservative with our budget
and expenses, nevertheless our deficit is growing. This has me
and our FPC Session concerned. We’ll have more to say in coming
weeks. For now, please keep pace with the pledge you made,
consider an increase in your giving, and let’s keep our current
ministry funded.
Let’s keep praying and giving as the summer months are upon us!
Warmly,
Pastor Tim

PASTOR NOMINATING COMMITTEE UPDATE
The Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) includes Lilian
Alfaro, Shelly Diaz, Michael Duron, Ian Redford, Eric
Ruckman, Jerry Scott, Eric Stender, Rosa Torres and Karen
Trejo. This Committee was elected by and serves at the
pleasure of the congregation. Also serving with us is
Rev. Sara McCurdy, Presbytery Committee on Ministry
Liaison.
The Committee has completed the Church’s
Ministry Information Form (MIF) that serves as a
description of our church, congregation and community. It
also serves to inform on our future goals and plans as
community of believers.
In April the PNC forwarded this document to our Session.
The Session reviewed and approved the document. Now
the PNC is waiting on the Committee on Ministry of our
presbytery (Los Ranchos) to review, approve and endorse
the MIF at their June meeting. When they endorse the
MIF, it will be published and distributed throughout the
denomination.

Upon distribution of the MIF, the PNC will begin to receive
candidate Personal Information Forms (PIF). These are
basically the resume of Pastors interested in the ministry
here in Downey. That will begin an extensive review
process by the PNC.
If you have any questions, please feel free to approach any
member of the PNC. Please understand that much of the
work of the PNC is confidential. And please, continue to be
in prayer for our process and progress.

SUNDAY
On that day, the Holy Spirit came to fill believers. Jesus had ascended, but he sent the Spirit so that believers could have the comfort, guidance, and empowerment of God's presence." Each
year, Pentecost Sunday comes 50 days after Easter Sunday, hence its name. The Greek word for 50 is Pentecost.
Celebrate it by wearing red. Everyone come to church wearing
red. The Sunday word will focus on the birth of the Church and what the Bible teaches on the Holy Spirit. Stick around after for cake and goodies at Cumberland Hall.

Series! Beginning June 1, Pastor Fearer will offer a five week series for all
the Sundays of June in Adult Sunday School (9:00 a.m., Cumberland

KIDZ KONNECTION Kidz Konnection End of Semester Message
I want to thank the Session and everyone from our congregation, who got involved by
donating supplies and encouraging our efforts in our Kidz Konnection ministry. I'm also very
grateful to all the tutors who pledged their time to this ministry; KK would not have been
possible without their commitment. I pray that more members show their genuine
belief in KK by participating in it next semester. This would only confirm that we are
engaged and serious about accomplishing our mission as a church.
June 12, 2014 is our last day of the semester in KK. We would like to extend an invitation to
the members of our congregation to see our children perform at a piano and guitar recital,
as well as their singing and performing of their step dancing routine to the rhythm of Amazing
Grace.
Performance is scheduled for June 12, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. You are all welcome!
Blessing and good health to you all!
