Evaluating Current Status
®
What’s This All About?
• Extension and Revitalization Committee has now been formed
• Need to evaluate extension possibilities• Need to evaluate the necessity for
revitalization• The criteria to evaluate each is different• Effectively it entails answering some basic
questions
Extension – Whose Responsibility?• Is there an SVdP (Arch)Diocesan Council (ADC)? If “no” then
the responsibility goes to the appropriate District Council• Is there an SVdP District Council (DC)? If “no” then the
responsibility falls to the Region because new Conferences will be Isolated until a DC is formed
• In some (Arch)Diocesan Councils, the ADC is responsible for building new Conferences
• In some (Arch)Diocesan Councils, each District Council is responsible for building new Conferences
• It is important here to understand who will be responsible for this extension effort
Extension – Questions About
Conferences• For Region, how many parishes in the Diocese? • For ADC, how many parishes in the Diocese?• For DC, how many parishes in the District? • How many Conferences in the covered area? • How many parishes not affiliated with the Society? • Prioritize those parishes not affiliated with the
Society for the extension effort• A minimal objective for extension is forming one
new Conference each year in each Council
Extension – Special Considerations• How many non-SVdP parishes have dominant diverse
populations (Hispanic, Black, Asian, Native American, etc.)?
• How many non-SVdP parishes have language dominance other than English (Spanish, Korean, etc.)?
• Do we have Vincentians fitting the diversity or dominant language who can assist with the extension effort?
• Is there a priority set for forming Youth (under 19) Conferences?
• Is there a priority set for forming Young Adult (19 to 39) Conferences?
Revitalization – Questions About
Conferences• Use “Minimum Requirements for Existing Traditional
Conferences” to decide which Conferences need to be revitalized
• Determine which Conferences will be best served with recruiting new members
• Determine which Conferences will be best served with formation services
• Determine which Conferences will be best served with both recruiting and formation
• Prioritize the efforts• A minimal objective for revitalization is revitalizing one
Conference each year in each Council
Extension/Revitalization – District Councils
• Where District Councils (DC) need to be formed or revitalized, this is the work of the ADC or the Region
• Although Part III of the Rule allows for three (3) Conferences in a DC, we are striving to follow the CGI requirement of five (5)
• Once again, the determination must be made to start a new DC or revitalize an existing one
• There may be a Diocese where both are needed
Extension/Revitalization – (Arch)Diocesan Councils
• Where (Arch)Diocesan Councils (ADC) need to be formed or revitalized, this is the work of the Region
• Are we starting a new ADC or revitalizing an existing one?
• As can be seen with Conferences, the considerations for starting new and revitalizing are very different; so the plan will be different for each
What’s Next?
• Once the evaluations are completed and priorities have been established, inform both the Regional and National Extension/ Revitalization Committees
• The next two steps are essential1. Prepare a formal five-year plan for extension2. Prepare a formal five-year plan for revitalization
• The next presentation will help you through that process
