Annual Notices Evergreen receives federal funds through Title I. One requirement of
that program is to provide certain information to families. Here are a
couple of annual notices that were not included in our Family Handbook:
Families may request information regarding state or local school
district policy regarding student participation in mandated
assessments.
Families may request information regarding the professional
qualifications of their child’s classroom teachers.
Administrative Rule 343.2: Class Size
The Student Achievement and Learning Committee is a School Board committee made up of Board
members, our District Administrator, district office staff, teaching staff, and community members.
This committee listened to the concerns of our third grade parents and discussed 343.2. Through
their discussion, we learned that this administrative rule needs to be revised. Knowing that the
revision process can take time, Dr. Mueller and our School Board are supportive of us adding an
additional section of third grade for the second half of the school year.
In the coming months, SALC will continue to discuss the issue of class size. They will work to revise
the current administrative rule so that it aligns with our mission in Holmen of educating every
student to achieve global success. When the School Board approves the revisions, we will be sure to
share the new version with you. In the meantime, feel free to contact Rachel Fawver or Nick Weber
with questions.

Winter Weather Please begin sending warm coats, hats, and mittens with children daily. Once the snow is forecasted to stick, children
should have snow pants, snow boots, and a change of shoes for the classroom. Children have the opportunity to play in the snow if they have all of the gear listed above. If a child does not wear snow pants and boots, s/he will be expected to stay on the blacktop. When the temperature is below 0 degrees with or without the windchill, students will have indoor recess. In the case of extreme weather, please watch the district website, local news stations, or listen to the radio for school closing information. If your child(ren) is in need of winter boots or clothing, please notify our school office so that we can help.

DREAM, BELIEVE, THINK, ACHIEVE
The magic of the winter holidays will soon be upon us. This is traditionally the season of giving. Unfortunately, one of the “gifts” many people receive is a cold or the flu.
Common sense measures such as covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, staying home when ill, and frequent, good hand washing can go a long way to maintain health. Consult with your health care provider to learn if a flu shot is recommended for you and/or your child.
If your child has a temperature 100° or greater, unexplained rash, is vomiting or experiencing diarrhea s/he should remain at home until symptom free for twenty-four hours.
While “on the mend” be sure to get plenty of rest. To avoid dehydration, encourage fluids as tolerated. Use a non-aspirin pain reliever as directed for fever and discomfort. Do not hesitate to contact your health care provider with questions, or if a fever lasts, more than three days and/or symptoms are not improving.
Although it is never convenient to be ill, allowing adequate time to rest and recuperate allows the body to fully recover from an illness.
Is it a Cold, Flu or Pertussis? Colds, flu and Pertussis are highly contagious and, in the initial stages, might seem alike. Check the following table
for a comparison of the symptoms for each illness.
