Welcome Back Welcome to school for 2019! We hope you have had a relaxing and happy
time as a family over the December-January period. It’s been a great start to
the school with many smiling faces in attendance. There are many exciting
opportunities ahead this year for the students!
There are some staffing matters of which to be aware. We welcome to the
permanent staff Ms Amy O’Connor (K-6 full time position). Mrs Delman has
been appointed to the school on a permanent basis (K-6 Learning and
Support 0.6 position). We also welcome Mrs Dani Ciup (K-6), Ms Mikaela
Cashin (K-6), Ms Allison Scragg (Mathematics, Technology, Sport), Ms Ruby
Johnsen (TAS: Technology, Hospitality, STEP and Project-Based Learning),
Mr Luke Hayward (Music, Distance Education, Student Support). Mrs Naomi
Sherlock returns to our K-6 teaching staff for 2019. The school is currently
working to fill a Head Teacher Mathematics position through a merit selection
process. Mr Adrian Delman is relieving in this role. Mr Glen Cook has taken
up a secondment to a role supporting indigenous language education in
Sydney and while he is doing so, Mrs Elizabeth Delman will relieve as
Assistant Principal.
Parents are asked to speak with their children about making the most of the
opportunities available at school, to be familiar with the requirements of the
Student Wellbeing Policy, taking care of their relationships with students and
staff, and ensuring they have the required equipment appropriate to their year
level.
We all look forward to working with you for a great year for each of the
students of our school.

Equipment Students Need to Bring to School All parents / carers are asked to ensure students from Year 3-12 attend
school with the equipment required to complete their school work. Any
families experiencing genuine financial hardship meeting this need are asked
to make contact with Mrs D’Anna or Mr Walker at the school. Parents and
carers are encouraged to maintain good contact with class teachers to ensure
students are presenting at school with the required equipment.
Equipment List (minimum)
Pencil Case Red Pen, Blue / black pen
Pencil Glue stick
Pencil Sharpener Eraser
Ruler Scissors
Liquid Paper is NOT to be brought to school
Diary use is encouraged for Yr 5-12.
Dropping Off and Picking up Students to/from School Parents are reminded a ‘No Parking Zone’ has been established in Cypress
Street for parents who wish to pull up in their car and drop off or pick up their
children. Should you wish to accompany your child into the grounds you are
most welcome to do so by coming into the southern car park, parking the car
and walking in with your child. PLEASE DO NOT drop off children in the
southern car park unless parking in a designated parking space. Unloading
children near the ‘intersection’ in the car park or the canteen delivery bay is a
safety risk. There have been numerous ‘near misses’. In particular you are
asked NOT to use the canteen delivery bay as a pick up/drop off location –
please use the Cypress St ‘No Parking Zone’ for quick pick up/drop offs.
Parents and students are reminded there are two access gates in Cypress
street for pedestrian and bicycle access to the school.
PLEASE DO NOT use the car park gates for pedestrian access to the school.
If you are on foot or bike please use the Cypress St entrances. All students
are reminded that on entering the school they are to dismount their bikes and
walk them to the bike racks.
Evans River K-12 Suspension Procedures From time to time students will engage in behaviour which is unacceptable in
our school setting. Where the behaviour is extreme or ongoing, the situation
may arise where it will be in the best interest of the school community and the
student/s involved that the student be suspended from school for a period of
time or even permanently excluded.
The school has copies of the Department’s
Guidelines for suspension and exclusion and
these are available from the office.
Parents and students are advised that suspension
is immediate where a student:
Is in possession of a suspected illegal drug
Is violent or threatens serious physical
violence
Is in possession of a prohibited weapon.
In other circumstances suspension will usually
occur after there has been school based
intervention of some kind.
Parents are also advised that there are many staff
who are available to assist students in
management of their behaviour. Such assistance
will hopefully prevent behaviour problems from
progressing and resulting in suspensions or
exclusion. Please feel encouraged to contact the
following personnel for assistance if you have a
concern about your child’s behaviour: Deputy
Principals, Year Advisers, Executive Staff and our
School Counsellor.
Rob Walker – Principal
Year 7 and 8 Swimming Program All students in Year 7
and 8 will be
participating in a
swimming program as
part of the PDHPE
course for the first 5
weeks of the year. It is important that all students
participate in this incredibly important part of the
program to ensure competence in the water and
safety when around the water. Please help
support the school by encouraging students to be
prepared for each lesson and have their
equipment which includes $4 entry. If any families
are having financial difficulties please send a note
or contact the school. Please ring the school if you
have any concerns.
Sonya Price, PDHPE Head Teacher.
Help Needed As you can see, the Canteen Roster is looking
very empty this year. If anyone can offer an hour
or two to help Jodie in the canteen, she would be
very grateful.
