In FAHRION‘s patented collet systemthe collet sits completely inside thecollet closing taper. Due to the uniquedesign it does not apply the usualbridging, thus enabling holding forcestwice as high as those of conventionalcollet chucks. The ground trapezoidalthread, the polished surface of thecollet and the finish in the bore ofthe collet further increase the holdingforces. This ensures high security andenables rough machining with opti-mum results.
Immense Stability

In prin-ciple the maximum tightening torquescan be used; for finishing machining,however, we recommend tighteningthe clamping nut only to 50-70% of themaximum tightening torque in order toobtain the optimal machining results onaccount of a higher degree of damping.The clamping nut itself is manufacturedcompletely symmetrically and has noslots or holes.

The machining of highly resistantmaterials such as stainless steel ortitanium is increasingly in demand,placing high demands on the holdingtorques of your tool clamping systems.The newly developed Maxi|GRIP HighPerformance Power Clamping Sys-tem doubles the already high holdingtorques of the CENTRO|P PrecisionCollet Chuck and thus enables extremerough machining. With the speciallydeveloped and patented inductiontechnology the range of application ofthe CENTRO|P Precision Collet Chuckis expanded, tool service lives are
extended and top surface qualities areachieved. The total system costs arethus reduced.
Maxi|GRIP – The Intelligent Solution
In combination with the CENTRO|P,this thermal clamping system enab-les holding forces of up to 800 Nmand higher to be achieved. For yearsCENTRO|P has set standards in con-centricity, dampening, stability and, in80% of applications, in clamping force,too; the increased demands on the
holding torque are now met and evenexceeded with Maxi|GRIP.
Process Reliability with
High Functionality
A tool is clamped as usual in theCENTRO|P using the roller bearingwrench (e.g. with 140 Nm for a 20 mmtool). The nut is subsequently heatedup to 150 °C within a few secondsby an inductive heat source (380 V).The process thus remains in the lowtemperature range. The temperaturedifference provides for a slight expan-sion of the clamping nut in relation tothe collet chuck. After heating up, theclamping nut is retightened to 140 Nmusing the torque wrench. This additio-
nal rotation of the clamping nut morethan doubles the holding torque.
Precision, Concentricity and Dam-
pening Remain Outstanding
The enormous increase of the holdingtorque does not result in less precision.With a concentricity of 3 m (basedon a tool with a projection length of3 x D), the usual FAHRION quality isretained in full. The advantage of thelow temperature range – for example inrelation to shrinking with up to 300 °C
and water cooling – also lies in the shortcooling phase and the cheaper equip-ment. FAHRION’s cooling solution con-
sists of a simple cooling bath, in whichthe tool is cooled down to lukewarmwithin just one minute. It has beenverified that the small temperaturedifferences have no negative effect onthe microstructure of the material. Thedampening characteristics also remainoutstanding, although they are slightlyreduced by the thermal clamping. Thegood cushioning characteristics aremainly attributable to the multipartclamping system, in which the colletabsorbs vibrations on account of itsdampening capacity.

SYNCHRO|T The Perfectly Optimised Tapping Chuck
The SYNCHRO|T Tapping Chuck com-pensates differences in pitch betweenthe tap and the synchronous spindleas well as compensating the pitchtolerances of the tap. It providesfor a cushioning effect between thetool and spindle during synchronisedtapping (rigid tapping) on machiningcentres with synchronous spindles.
