Definition: teacher reads aloud small portions of the text to allow students to hear how a text should sound, then students reread the text, mimicking the fluency and intonation of the teacher.

Definition: teacher and students read simultaneously, with the teacher gradually letting the students take the lead

• this is especially beneficial to struggling readers or English as a second language readers
