Product Information
Earthwise™ EAL Wire Rope Grease (3353)
Soft, Semifluid Coating Lubricant Lets You Go Green Without Sacrificing Performance
LE’s Earthwise™ lubricants are specifically formulated to be earth friendly while still meeting the rigorous demands of industrial applications. With these products, you can “go green” – and keep up with the latest environmental regulations – without having to sacrifice performance.
Earthwise EAL Wire Rope Grease (3353) is a certified Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL), recommended for use in applications on or near waterways. It meets the specifications required by the EPA’s Vessel General Permit (VGP). It is readily biodegradable, exhibits minimal aquatic toxicity and will not accumulate in the cells of fish and other aquatic life forms.
It is a soft, semifluid formulation designed to coat wire rope as well as moving chain and cable parts to ensure long life and smooth, quiet operation. Its semi-tacky, water-resistant characteristics enable it to adhere to the application and seal out damaging moisture and protect against rust formation. Its robust additive package, including LE’s proprietary Almasol® and Quinplex® additives, further helps it protect against wear, corrosion, impact, rust and oxidation.

Proprietary AdditivesLE’s proprietary additives are used exclusively in LE lubricants. Earthwise EAL Wire Rope Grease contains Almasol and Quinplex.
Almasol® solid wear-reducing additive is able to withstand extremely heavy loads, chemical attack and temperatures up to 1,900°F (1,038°C). It is attracted to metal surfaces, forming a microscopic layer but not building on itself or affecting clearances. Almasol minimizes metal-to-metal contact and the resulting friction, heat and wear.
Quinplex® contributes to outstanding water resistance, tackiness and enhanced mechanical stability, and helps to form a barrier against corrosion.

QUINPLEX®Imparting Five Characteristics to LE’s Lubricants
The Lubrication Reliability Source™ www.LElubricants.com800-537-7683
Characteristics
Quinplex® is a unique polymer that LE uses in several of its lubricant formulations, predominantly its food grade greases. The name Quinplex is derived from the five principal characteristics this additive imparts to lubricants: tackiness, water resistance, cohesion, mechanical stability and corrosion resistance.
Based on research originally done in Europe, the polymer’s beneficial properties – including its narrow-range molecular weight distribution – brought it to LE’s attention. LE adapted the new technology for lubrication, named it Quinplex and has been using it in select LE lubricants since 1974.
How It WorksAlthough it appears to be a solid, Quinplex is actually a very thick, high-molecular-weight liquid. It was chosen by LE because of its narrow-range molecular weight distribution (ensuring consistency of physical characteristics).
Quinplex is incorporated into lubricants through a series of manufacturing techniques providing the necessary adhesion to the base oil. When used in grease formulations, Quinplex enhances the coupling of the oil with the thickener. The overall mechanical stability of the grease is also enhanced, helping the grease do its work through thousands of cycles without breaking down its desired consistency.
Quinplex works synergistically and does not interfere with other chemically active components of a lubricant. It increases the viscosity index of fluid products and the base fluids in greases, reducing their change in viscosity over a wide operating temperature range. It also increases adhesive quality (tackiness), enabling lubricants to stick to metal surfaces and provide enhanced water resistance. Lubricants with Quinplex are able to withstand heavier loads than lubricants of equal viscosity without Quinplex.

Water Resistance – Incorporated into LE lubricants, Quinplex helps form a water-resistant barrier and prevent water spray-off loss, which means fewer equipment failures caused by a lack of lubricant. It also means longer regreasing intervals and less lubricant usage.
Tackiness – Quinplex helps lubricants cling tenaciously to metal surfaces, ensuring that the lubricant will not sling off or pound out during use. Like water resistance, tackiness reduces equipment failures, extends relubrication intervals and reduces lubricant usage.
Cohesion – In grease formulations, Quinplex enhances the coupling of the oil with the thickener. This ensures the formulation remains stable over time and allows Quinplex to work synergistically with other additives added to the lubricant.
Mechanical Stability – When incorporated into grease, Quinplex improves the overall mechanical stability and allows the grease to do its work without performance loss, staying in range throughout its useful life.
Corrosion Resistance – Quinplex forms a powerful corrosion barrier. LE’s lab tests on pure Quinplex have proven its ability to resist concentrations of strong acids and bases, as well as oxidizing agents.

ALMASOL®Solid • Extreme Heat Stability • AW & EP Protection
The Lubrication Reliability Source™ www.LElubricants.com800-537-7683
Beneficial Qualities
Almasol® is LE’s proprietary solid film additive originally developed for use in the late 1950s. This soft, tan powder has been incorporated into many of LE’s industrial lubricating oils and greases. The microscopic particles are so small it would take approximately 8,000 of them to cover the punctuation mark at the end of this sentence. So revolutionary in its development, a form of Almasol’s dry film technology has been used on every manned U.S. space flight until the retirement of the space shuttle program.
Unlike molybdenum disulfide and other solids used in lubricants, Almasol will not build up on itself and adversely affect machine operation with close tolerances or create hard deposits that create housekeeping issues. Unlike graphite – a commonly used solid lubricant – Almasol maintains its lubricity even under vacuum conditions. That’s why it functioned so well in space programs.
How It WorksLubrication is accomplished by providing a lubricant film between two opposing metal surfaces. Under light to moderate load and sufficient speeds, lubricants of the proper viscosity provide the desired film strength. As load, speeds and temperatures increase and or decrease through operation the oil film alone can become insufficient to prevent galling, scoring, wear, friction and high temperatures as metal-to-metal contact occurs. This is where Almasol excels in protecting equipment.
Think of Almasol particles as small uniform microscopic platelets. They form a single protective sacrificial layer over a metal’s working surface because they have a natural affinity for metal, maintaining an even dispersion throughout the lubricant fluid. Almasol will not build up on itself because the particles are mutually repelled. When equipment is operating, Almasol particles will slide on each other to inhibit metal-to-metal contact. If a single particle is worn away, another particle takes it place, constantly protecting the metal surface.
ProprietaryAlmasol additive technology is used exclusively in LE lubricants, helping our customers worldwide protect their equipment, and experience longer lubricant intervals, fewer part replacements and less downtime.
