History District Institute of Education and Training,
Keshav Puram, was established to improve the quality of elementary education in District North of NCT of Delhi. It started functioning on 24-09-1989 in a Directorate of Education school building
Operational area of DIET includes civil lines zone of Edu.Deptt., MCD & District North of DOE

TrainingPre Service Training Intake of Pre-service teacher education course
in 1989 was 50 trainees Additional intake of 50 seats was approved by
NCTE in july 1997-98 It was further increased to 150 trainees in 2006

Extension activities conducted during EFA Campaign
Literacy campaign in Nangloi Jat Constituency (Ist constituency of Delhi awarded by Education Minister for establishing 300 literacy classes) :
During the years 1994-97, the above programme was conducted with the following activities:
Environment Building:with the help of Community and Pre-Service Teachers.
Various Corner meetings, street plays, sandhya and Prabhat Pheris, talks by religious leaders, fairs and competitions were organised for adult learners and neo-literates.
Door to door survey was organised with the help of local leaders, community & students.
Extension activities conducted during EFA Campaign
16,648 adult non-literates in the age range 15-35 years were identified in the constituency.
Training of Master Trainers and Volunteers : 45 persons from different professions like doctors, teachers, policemen, businessmen and housewives were trained as master trainers. Master trainers trained 1002 volunteers to conduct the literacy classes and also nukkad nataks.
Supervision and Monitoring was done to improve the quality of the programmes by assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the programme. Few bureaucrats, intellectuals, social workers supervised voluntarily.
Extension activities conducted during EFA Campaign
Mobilisation of the community using various innovative techniques to make this programme a ‘campaign’ was done.
Evaluation of adult learners and the programme was done in scientifically designed manner.
Follow-up of the campaign was by opening 460 post-literacy centres and 6 libraries for neo-literates.
Lab Area Activity DIET, Keshavpuram has identified socio-
economically, and educationally deprived/ backward area of the district which is in the proximity of DIET as the lab area from time to time.
In the year 1995, Wazirpur Patharwala was identified as the lab area. To provide necessary services for the better functioning of the schools of this area, is the liability of DIET. It was found that 90% of the male population took alcohol, smack & other drugs on a regular basis, which affected not only the quality of their life, but also those of their children. A project was undertaken to mobilize the community to fight against drugs & alcoholism steps taken were :
Lab Area Activity i) A core group was formed to motivate the addicts
to take treatment ii) Registration of chronic addicts at the de-
addiction clinics & their follow-up was doneiii) Community outreach programme of AIIMS in
the area A project entitled ‘Sthaniya Hunar Khoj’ was
carried out to survey local skills for enrichment of elementary school curriculum in the area D-block , Jahangir puri, slum cum resettlement colony
In the year, 2010, J.J Colony Wazirpur was identified as the lab area. Institutional project ‘ Hunar Khoj’ and Community survey is carried out in the lab area
Lab Area ActivityThe lab area needed direct attention for all
round development of the peoplePrepared a vast plan to find out facts at the
grass root level by meeting community leaders, VKS members,PTA members,parents, and local NGOs for further plan and action.
Survey Performa to get realistic information of the lab area regarding Hunar, backwardness,illiteracy rate, drop out and need for improvement was developed

Lab Area ActivityOutcome of the survey showed a number
of non-school going and drop-out children in the age group of 6 –14 years and adult non-literates
Ten Life –long Learning Centres will be established for social,economic and educational upliftment.
Hunar Khoj –Resource Centre The resource centre was established to
identify hunar and social, economical status of local people in lab area.
21 major hunars have been identified in the lab area through survey.Tailoring,carpentry, wiring, making electric items, shoe-making, polish work, embroidery, making food items etc.
The role of DIET is to provide linkage for improving the social,economic and educational status of people with various hunars.
Hunar Khoj –Resource Centre
