Global SWIM Demos
Presented By: Wim POSTSESAR JU
Date: August 28, 20141
To Take Away
We will learn more from the journey than from reaching the destination.
The importance of running SWIM global demonstrations lies for us not so much in running
the operational scenarios at the end, but in the way we prepare for them.

A slide from last year• Future global demonstration(s)
– Exploit strengths of SESAR Master Class approach– Promote SWIM compliant infrastructure [prototype]
deployment (multiple profiles possible)– Publish latest reference material for service
development and information models– Extend use of Registry– Run demonstration exercises around relevant
operational scenarios– Open to parties around the globe

Why (now)?
52014/08/28
What we want to achieve• Put SWIM governance ideas to the test• Agree on technology landscape to be used• Apply latest baseline information models• Publish and discover (prototype) services
– Use common service definition framework– Federation of registries
• Run Operational scenarios demonstrations• Evaluate service performance and Ops impact.• Allow (practically) any party to participate
62014/08/28
Our Challenges (1/3)• Operational aspects
– Different scenarios of interest to different players– Need scenarios that realistically connect players
around the globe– Need common understanding of Operational
language and processes to define SWIM enabled services.
– Getting relevant Quality of Service requirements
72014/08/28
Our Challenges (2/3)• SWIM Concept aspects
– Different levels of maturity between parties– Possibly focussing on different technological
solutions– Governance to be tested across different
organisations– Existence of separate governance mechanisms for
some aspects (like AIXM, FIXM, WXXM) but not all– Availability/Usability of registries– Defining what we mean by SWIM compliance

Our Challenges (3/3)• Practical aspects
– Time zones cover whole world– Different parties need to set-up their own projects
• Priorities• Procurement processes• Timelines
– Working with bilateral collaboration agreements– Equal promotion/communication opportunities– Many different organisations may get involved– Organisational IT security policies
102014/08/28
How we plan to succeed• Create a 'global sandbox' environment that:
– It is available where possible throughout the demonstration projects duration
– It allows different choices to be tried– It facilitates connecting parties with joint interests,
yet decouples them where necessary.• Bi-/Multilateral demonstration scenarios• Publication of service information in a
(federated) registry.• Minimal schedule constraints between parties
