The Crucifer
For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro
throughout the earth that He may strongly
support those whose heart is completely His.
2 Chronicles 16.9
“Gooooooooooaaaaaaaaalllllllllll!!”
Much of the world is watching the World Cup.
The enthusiasm of soccer fans from Europe to
South America is infectious. Many millions of
people are gathering at stadiums and fields
and restaurants from Brazilia to Zagreb to
watch their teams play in Moscow – crying
with joy at victory and sorrow in defeat.
I do not usually picture God as especially emo-
tive. But perhaps I should. The Scripture tells
us that God made us in His image and loves us.
God became a human to teach us and to sacri-
fice Himself for us.
Is God passionate about people? Absolutely!
Like soccer fans during the World Cup, God is
enthusiastic about His people. Teaching,
coaching, watching, responding, correcting,
and loving us every second of every minute for
the whole of our lives.
When you are courageous and faithful and
kind and compassionate, God enthusiastically
says “Yes!” When you are rebellious and vain,
prideful and faithless, God says, “No!” The
Lord is always watching, always present. The
Lord is always there, strongly supporting those
whose hearts are completely His.
Give God much for which to cheer.
Faithfully in Christ Jesus,

bury and York, produced:
A Short Guide to the Duties of Church Membership
All baptized and confirmed members of the Church must play their full part in its life and witness. That you may fulfil this
duty we call upon you:
To follow the example of Christ in home and daily life, and to bear personal witness to Him.
To be regular in private prayer day by day.
To read the Bible carefully.
To come to Church every Sunday.
To receive the Holy Communion faithfully and regularly.
To give personal service to Church, neighbours, and community.
To give money for the work of parish and diocese and for the work of the Church at home and overseas.
To uphold the standard of marriage entrusted by Christ to His Church.
To care that children are brought up to love and serve the Lord.

Even though the above was written 64 years ago, I believe that it is still relevant. Here we are in the middle of summer, and for
many, it is vacation time. For some, summer also includes a vacation from church. An old priest once told me that there are only
two reasons to miss church – travel and serious illness, so only if you are on the road or in the air or ill or all of the above, you are
excused. Most vacation spots have an Episcopal Church within a reasonable distance. Visiting a church while on vacation can be a
wonderful experience, not only in receiving the Body and Blood of our Lord, but also in meeting some brothers and sisters in
Christ. I am wishing you a happy and faithful summer.
Your brother in Christ,
Ted+
Happy Summer! As your Treasurer, there are a few things we all need to keep in mind. While Church income is seasonal (with
donations being their best around Holy Days and when school is in session) our ongoing expenses are recurring. With that in
mind, before you escape Tyler for vacations, could you check your pledge to make sure that it is current? If you haven’t made a
pledge, can you support the Mission of Christ Church to bring people to Christ?
We have a wonderful Church, and this is really due to each of you. Being away for 3 years, Dorinda and I had a void in our l ives,
our great friends-most of whom worship in the pews next to us.
So please join us as we financially support Christ Church, and blessings to each,
Peter M. Boyd

Summertime at Christ Church is a busy time, especially for our
ministries! Vacation Bible School has now been a successful
outreach at both campuses for two separate weeks reaching
147 children. The youth just left for Galveston for a week of
mission work and they also labored in the Tyler area back in
June for Mission Week serving those in need. Men’s Depth
Group, College Ministry Bible Study, Men’s Bible Study and the
Prayer Shawl Ministry continue to meet throughout the sum-
mer. On Sunday mornings, worship and Christian education
are offered for both adults and children at Christ Church South
and Downtown. Independence Day celebration on the Christ
Church South lawn, as one of our parish wide gatherings was
fun and the food was delicious— there was shade and a
breeze! The pews in the Nave are now more comfortable with
new cushions and summer housecleaning is underway. Hungry
folks still depend on Loaves and Fishes volunteers to fill their
bellies week after week. Sunday Gatherings and Hunger for
Love also use our downtown undercroft to serve those who are
hungry for food and faith.
For office and program staff, summertime is business as usual,
publishing, organizing events, and paying the bills while the
clergy continue to prepare sermons, visit our people, and min-
ister to those in need.
In the summer as families travel and have weekends filled with
other activities the offering plates tend to be a little lighter on
Sunday mornings. If you can’t come to church and place your
offering in the plate, please consider setting up your contribu-
tions to be made automatically through your checking account,
by credit card through our Christ Church app or on the Christ
Church website, or just remember to mail in a check if you are
away. The ministries at Christ Church are blessed by your sup-
port.
Mid-year statements have been mailed to all pledgors. If you
did not receive yours, have questions or would like more infor-
mation regarding gifts by credit card or automatic draft please

things during His ministry, like the way he chose to spend
time with the kind of people other people usually avoided.
Whether it was sick people, different people, poor people,
or unlikeable people, Jesus surrounded Himself with people
others wouldn’t touch. In this 4-week series, you’ll chal-
lenge students to see, serve, embrace, and love others the
way Jesus saw, served, embraced, and loved them.

What is the 1928 Prayer Book service?
Join us Thursdays at noon in the nave downtown for a moving 30 mi-
nute service of prayer with celebration of the Holy Eucharist. After-
wards a service of healing may be held.
The 1928 Book of Common Prayer served the Episcopal Church for fifty
years, from 1928 until 1978. The 1928 revision was very extensive - per-
haps the most radical U. S. prayer book revision until that of 1979.

Episcopal College Community
ECC is a gospel-centered and sacramentally focused college ministry that spans across three campuses in the East Texas area. We
are committed to fostering, discipling, and empowering students in and through the resurrected Christ. The life of the typical col-
lege student is extremely hectic, so we offer various avenues of participation, service, and formation. Women and men who attend
Tyler Junior College, UT Tyler, and Texas College are invited and encouraged to attend!
During the school year, Men’s & Women’s Bible Studies are offered, along with Morning Prayer, and Coffee & Connect, weekly.
Book Club is held semi-monthly and Service Saturday is held the first Saturday of every month.
