Someone has stolen 2012. I cannot believe how quickly the year has flown. Because it has been so hot we are regularly using the forest walks to get our required exercise. We meet at 6.30am on week days in front of the Community House. Our last walk for the year will be on Friday, 21 December and we will welcome the New Year in on 2 January 2013. This will give us a chance to be with family and friends over the festive season. Our break-up dinner will be held on 11 December. For 2013 we are changing the Moon Walks to the Wednesday nearest the full moon. Our first one for 2013 will be on 30 January. Instead of dining at a restaurant it is planned to have a picnic tea by the river. The February Moon Walk will be on 27 February. For more information on our daily walks or the Moon Walks phone Assunta on 5485 2935 or Ellen on 5485 1249. We wish you all a very Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. Most importantly, stay safe. Assunta Easton – Walk Organizer

GRAND OPENING DAY - MONDAY 17 DECEMBER - 6AM
Christmas Short Bread
Ingredients
Melted butter, to grease
250g butter, at room temperature
100g (1/2 cup) caster sugar
300g (2 cups) plain flour, sifted 90g (1/2 cup) rice flour, sifted
Step 1 Preheat oven to 150°C. Brush 2 baking trays with melted butter to grease. Use an electric beater to beat the butter and sugar in a bowl until pale and creamy.
Step 2 Gradually add the combined flour, beating on low speed until almost combined. Use your hands to bring the dough together in the bowl. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently until smooth.
Step 3 Divide the dough into 2 equal portions. Use your hands to shape 1 portion of dough into an 18cm-diameter disc. Transfer to 1 of the prepared trays. Use a flat-bladed knife to smooth the surface. Pinch the edges to create a fluted edge. Use a small sharp knife to score the disc into 8 wedges and use a fork to prick the dough all over. Repeat with the remaining dough to make a second disc.
Step 4
Bake the shortbread in oven, swapping the trays halfway through cooking, for 40 minutes or until light golden. Set aside on the trays for 10 minutes to cool before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into wedges to serve.

How will you vote in Noosa
Council referendum? Ratepayers of the former Noosa Shire will vote in a compulsory referendum early in 2013 – tipped to be around March – to determine whether their old council will be reinstated following forced merger of the three councils in 2008. Local Government Minister, David Chrisafulli, said Noosa had the strongest case among four Queensland communities that he had decided should be allowed to consider breaking away from the current local government structure. Its long-term viability was ‘good’. However, a Noosa de-amalgamation from the Sunshine Coast Regional Council will come at a cost. For Noosa, the Queensland Treasury Corporation (QTC) found that the initial cost to de-amalgamate would be $13.6 million, or an extra $260 per ratepayer in the first year. There would also be ongoing costs of an extra $142 per ratepayer in following years, rising with inflation. Among one-off costs incurred by a breakaway Noosa Council are the salaries of new senior executives, community and staff engagement costs, legal and accounting fees. A smaller council would also have less-effective buying power and would require new plant and equipment, including computer software and hardware. In deciding that Noosa ratepayers will vote on their future, Mr Chrisafulli took into account the advice of a specially-appointed Boundaries Commissioner, Col Meng, a former Mayor of Mackay. “A decision needs to be taken with all the facts on the table, and people will have to make a judgement about whether reverting to an independent council is worth the cost,” Mr Chrisafulli said. The council de-amalgamation referendum will consider a smaller council with the exact boundaries Noosa had before merger with Maroochy and Caloundra councils in 2008, although the people of Eumundi, Verriedale and Doonan have expressed an interest to eventually join their Noosa neighbours within a single local government area.

Vitamin F (friends)... Why do we have a variety of friends who are all so different in character? How do we get along with them all? I think that each one helps to bring out a "different" part of us. We joke with one friend. We sit down and talk about serious matters with one. With another, we laugh a lot. We may have a coffee with one. We listen to one friend's problems. Then we listen to another one's advice for us. Our friends are all like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. When completed, they form a treasure box. A treasure of friends! There are friends who understand us better than we understand ourselves, who support us through good days and bad days. We all pray together and for each other. Doctors tell us that friends are good for our health. Dr. Oz calls them Vitamins F (for Friends) and counts the benefits of friends as essential to our well being. Research shows that people in strong social circles have less risk of depression and terminal strokes. If you enjoy Vitamins F constantly, you can be up to 30 years younger than your real age. The warmth of friendship stops stress and even in your most intense moments, it decreases the chance of a cardiac arrest or stroke by 50%. Make an effort to keep a stock of Vitamins F! Value your friends and keep in touch with them. Try to see the funny side of things and laugh together, and pray for each other in the tough moments.
