Context
FMD was introduced in
Tunisia in April 2014
First case was reported in
North East of country
Then, different outbreaks were
reported in different region
and in a short time
Virus identified : serotype O of
topotype Ind-2001d

Objective
Investigation of FMDV evolution during the outbreak
Use of genome sequence and antigenic profiling data
to study:
dynamic of FMDV transmission
the virus matching with vaccine strains
Identify risk factors for the spread of the
disease in the country
Planned activities
Action Month
IRVT will send samples to Anses 1
Welcome trainee from IRVT at Anses for 3 weeks 2
Analysis of samples by trainee : virus isolation, RT-PCR, typing
2 et 3
Genome amplification of selected samples at Anses 4 et 5
Send isolats and amplicons to IZSLER 5
Full genome sequencing from amplicons by IZSLER 6 à 9
Antigen profiling of isolats by IZSLER 6 à 9
Data analysis 10-11
Repport 12
Complete sequences of isolates of FMDV in Tunisia
Phylogenetic analysis of sequences
Antigenic characterization of isolates
Analysis of epidemiological links between isolates based
on phylogenetic analyzes
Analysis of antigenic homology between the vaccine
strains and isolates
Output
Conclusion
Global control of FMD needs coordinated action at
national, regional and international level
Collaborations between veterinary services and
laboratories at regional and international levels are
essential for the success of the control of FMD
Anses participates and will continue to participate actively
in the global fight against FMD
In particular Anses-Animal health Lab, continues to
provide support to REMESA members through training,
expertise and collaboration project
Collaboration projects such as that between IRVT, IZSLER
and Anses should be encouraged
