Facebook has signaled that their algorithm is chang-ing again. If you’ve been thinking about starting aFacebook group, now might be the time to do it.

Facebook is favoring more personalengagement, so your page might notreach as many people as it has in the past.Here are some things to consider aboutcreating a group.

Give people an incentive for joiningyour group. You could offer early birddiscounts to the members or previews fornew products. Then once they are in, givethem more information about your prod-ucts and services.

Engagement is still going to be veryimportant. You don’t want to start agroup so that you can share informationabout sales. Eventually, people are goingscroll right past you. You want to create agroup of fans that you entertain, educate,and inspire. If you do that, they are goingengage with your content and share itwith others.

Now you’re thinking: “What kind ofgroup can a brick and mortar businesshave?” My answer to that is to thinkabout what your customers are interestedin. If you have a bakery, you could havea group with local people who love toplan parties. If you are a pediatric dentist,maybe your group could focus on familyhealth. If you have a home cleaning busi-ness, you could feature information butyou could focus on organization.
