Lace making is an old Maltese tradition. In the 1930’s, the founders of Ceramika Maltija created blueprints for lace makers. These designs are still being used today to produce sgraffito decorated plates.
The pottery has employed many talented artists over the decades. Sculptor Sheila Mitchell created the pineapple lamps and dolphin lamps during the 1950’s and they are still very much in demand today.
