Character Capable College & Career Ready
Culture is comprised of the shared assumptions, beliefs, values, traditions and norms that defi ne a group of people. Culture can be thought of as the “personality” of the organization. The Selah School District is focusing on strengthening our culture by having an intentional focus on The Viking Way.

Our Mission...
What is Culture?
The Viking Way is the behaviors and actions that are aligned with the Selah School District’s core purpose, mission and beliefs.
To ensure high levels of learning for all students.
The Selah School District, in partnership with students, parents, and community, cultivates a culture of lifelong learning for all.
• Strong Character is at the heart of preparing our students for lifelong success.• Every student is worthy and Capable of making meaningful contributions to his or her communities.
• In a culture of excellence, every student graduates on time prepared for College and Career opportunities.
Our beliefs can be remembered through three terms: Character, Capable, and College and Career ready. If anyone behaves or acts in a way that exemplifi es our beliefs, we’d call that The Viking Way. It’s that simple. Throughout this calendar are examples of people living life The Viking Way. With our
shared beliefs in place as our foundation, our district will create a culture of excellence where high levels of learning are ensured for all students.
Now, that’s The Viking Way!

Selah School District 3-Year Priorities 2016-2019
Collaboration for Student Learning...
People working together in interdependent teams create
the best opportunity for students to learn.
Eliminating gaps in achievement among students based on race, language, economic status and disability ensures that our core
purpose is realized.
A Look at Our Priorities...
Within every building and program in our District, we
cultivate environments where students and adults can grow.
The pre-k through 3rd grade years are essential to a child’s
development and ensuring early readiness is the best proactive measure we can take to assure
our students succeed.
Environments for Success...
Closing the Achievement Gap...
Readiness for Early Learners...
In the Selah School District, educational priorities revolve around students and the cultivation of a culture which ensures lifelong learning for all.
SERVICE:While following The Viking Way, SERVICE is WE over me.
Welcome Back!Selah staff will soon return to the
offi ces, classrooms, buses and kitchens, and welcome students to the
2017-2018 school year and the culture of life-long learning for all.

LEADERSHIP:At the forefront of The Viking Way culture, LEADERSHIP is being a positive infl uence for others.
Selah's student-athletes "win from within" where principles of the athletic culture challenge participants to be their best selves on the athletic fi elds, in the classrooms, and within the community.
During the 2016-2017 school year, Viking athletic teams were competitive, honored academically, and provided meaningful contributions to the community.
Here, the Girls Cross-Country Team celebrates its state championship last November.
