Operation clean-out
Two MM’s caught in the line of re
cleanTwo MM’s caught
clean-outTwo MM’s caught
-outTwo Municipal Managers in Mo-pani — the district municipality’s Tim Maake and Tzaneen’s Elias Mankabidi — have been caught in the line of fi re in what seems to be a serious eff ort by the ANC to wipe out corruption, nepotism, the misappropriation of ratepayers’ money, wasteful expenditure and mismanagement.
Mankabidi’s contract with the Greater Tzaneen Municipality was cancelled on Monday (it is the new terminology for being fi red) and his departure took eff ect at that very moment. An improper payment of a contractor was the main reason for the action taken against him.
It is not clear yet if the GTM will institute further legal action, in-cluding criminal charges, against Mankabidi. His appointment as MM was rather controversial, since he left the Greater Letaba Munici-pality (Modjadjiskloof) under a cloud aft er a big amount of cash disappeared from the GLM’s safe. He was then redeployed as Chief Financial Offi cer of the Mopani District Municipality and when Ms Conny Mametja left the GTM, he was promoted to take her place as Municipal Manager.
It is common knowledge that Mankabidi had a close relation-ship with the MDM’s previous Mayor, Mr Joshua Matlou. It was
widely said that Matlou deployed the MM’s of the municipalities in the jurisdiction of the MDM.
Maake’s future also looks prett y bleak, although he has been sus-pended (on Friday last week) and not yet “fi red”. It is alleged that at least R210 million of an alloca-tion from central government to the MDM, cannot be accounted for. The MDM fi nally went broke in January and couldn’t pay wages and salaries. The Limpopo govern-ment has since paid money into the MDM’s bank account, in order for the municipality to pay Janu-ary’s wages and salaries.
In the meantime an amount of R400 million, also allocated by the central government, for the MDM’s water portfolio (supply, maintenance etc) seems to be “a problem”.
Maake was, like Mankabidi, very close to Matlou and Limpopo’s previous premier, Mr Cassel Math-ale. Mathale was not re-appointed as Premier by the President.• The Bulletin is currently still inves-tigating certain “interesting” aspects about Maake and we hope to report on this next week. We do, however, expe-rience serious resistance from offi cials on all levels to talk about allegations regarding Maake’s situation.

Georges Valley is Maandag vir ‘n hele paar uur vir verkeer gesluit, nadat verskeie voertuie in ‘n “groep”-botsing be-
trokke was.

streekuitsendings!)Tot Vlieg se ergernis kry hy SMS’e,
Dit is V.I.
• Parents of children from mostly old Model C schools have to pay up to R60 more per piece of clothing to have the school emblem embroidered. Is this worthwhile or even necessary in the tough nancial times we are in – a situation that is worsening by the month with no end in sight for the near future? Would the school emblem on the school blazer only not su ce? What do you say?

The situation in Malamulele has moved from bad to worse, with some young people now using the chaos to make a fast buck by block-ing roads and demanding “toll” money.
This comes aft er the decision of the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) that Malamulele was not suitable to have its own municipality.
Under the command of some leaders of the striking committ ee, young people in the area are organised into groups of fi ft een to twenty and placed on roads — including gravel roads so as to make it diffi cult to move around.
“On our trip to Xihosani village on Tues-day we met these youth staging a roadblock where people were asked to pay between R20
BEWARE: Malamulele unrest has taken a new (dangerous) shape
to R50, depending on the car one drives, be-fore we were allowed to pass,” said one vic-tim, Mr David Khumalo from Polokwane.
“If your car looks fancy then you pay more because you’re assumed to be rich and there-fore have more money,” he added; saying locals were allowed to pass free of charge as long as they could prove that they were local.
“The situation is so terrifying that you feel like you’re in one of the lawless African coun-tries once you get stopped by these people,” said another victim, Ms Grace Mashele. She was visiting a relative in Mudavula village.
Asked if the police were aware of the illegal roadblocks, a provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Ott o, said, “Yes we’re receiving in-formation about the blocks and our members are being dispatched around the area to en-sure trouble-free travelling.”
Before the announcement by the MDB that Malamulele was not suitable to have its own municipality the people in the area were con-trollable, which allowed for minimised dam-age caused by the shutdown. However, aft er the announcement the violence spread out of control resulting in damage to property — in-cluding the burning down of six classrooms of Malamulele High School on Monday night.
According to a community leader in the area (who did not want to be named for fear of vic-timisation) more is still to come. “People are angry and ready for war. They do not have patience to wait until June when the minister would be done with the liquidation of some municipalities, to know whether Malamulele will have a municipality or not,” he said.
The community is divided, with some peo-ple supporting the continuation of the total shutdown of schools and businessess and others opposing it — since they feel the chil-dren must be allowed to continue with their studies.
— Orlando [email protected]
Two men manned this “roadblock” outside Malamulele and demanded money (toll fee). The picture was taken with a cell phone from
inside a car. The men obviously don’t like photos of them to be taken and can get quite aggressive if motorists take photos of them.
The principal of Saint George College in Nkowankowa, Ms Joya Varughese, denies that she refused a fi ve-year-old boy admis-sion because he is living with albinism.
Allegations of the school’s ableism were in circulation aft er a radio station reported a few weeks ago that the school’s neighbour-ing school, Meridian College, was the one that refused the boy admission.
On being confronted with the report, Me-ridian College took to social media to clear its name, with principal Tia Gerber stating, “We would never turn a child away because of his/her colour.” The school later stated, “It is not Meridian, but our neighbouring school.”
Bulletin followed up on allegations by Ms Tintswalo Monica Mhlarhi, mother of fi ve-year-old Vutlharhi Mhlarhi. She accused St George College for refusing her son admis-sion because he is living with albinism.
Mhlarhi says she approached the school in November last year to apply for her son to be enrolled in Grade R this year.
Varughese, according to her, looked at her
son and then asked him to write down his name on a piece of paper. and then asked him to write two numbers. However, be-cause the fi ve-year-old had yet to learn how to read and write, he failed to write what he had been asked to write.
Mhlarhi says the principal then told her it looks like her son has special needs. She directed him to a school in Polokwane that enrolls pupils who need special att ention.
The mother says she asked the principal to try her son for a litt le while and see how he copes. “Varughese, however, refused, in-sisting the child will require too much att en-tion.”
Varughese, on the other hand, says she recalls being approached by Mhlarhi, al-though many other parents seeking admis-sion for their children also approached her. She, however, refutes that she denied the fi ve-year-old admission because of his albi-nism.
The principal says her school is constantly ranked as one of the top-performing schools
in the province. She therefore receives stacks of applica-tions each year. In order to select the best, which is not an uncommon goal for most schools, she holds interviews with the applicants.
The fi ve-year-old,
according to her, seemed rather unrespon-sive during the interview. The principal said she only advised the mother, which she of-ten does, to take her son to a special-needs school.
Mhlarhi, according to Varughese, took the rejection too personally. “We have limited space, and hence turn away many appli-cants whom we feel do not meet our admis-sion requirements; it has nothing to do with their physical appearances,” she stated.
The principal added that the private school oft en admits learners with disabilities. “What we are unable to do is admit learners who need extra att ention in class,” she said, ex-plaining that the school receives no subsidies from the government and the staff is limited.
Both Meridian and St George, the two pri-vate and combined schools in Nkowanko-wa, achieved 100% matric passes in 2014 and were ranked amongst the top-perform-ing schools in the province. The principals say their reputations are being tested as a result of their performances.
Mhlarhi has since taken her child, as well as her two elder chil-dren who were at St George, to Meridian. She says the school has not yet reported any learning diffi culties with her son.

Accident burns victims to ashes
Three people burnt to ashes in a horrifi c accident on the George’s Valley Road between Tzaneen and Haenertsburg on Monday. Eight vehicles including an ambulance, a towing
service vehicle and a truck were involved in the accident. The road was closed for a couple of hours and motorists were diverted to the Magoebaskloof and Mooketsi routes.
Arrested for murderA 42-year-year old man from Mariveni Village next to Nkowankowa was arrested for killing a 40-year-old man, Winter Mbodi Ntimana (40). The 42-year-old reportedly had a heated argument with Ntimana. He then reportedly left the suspect but returned later at a high speed with his car and allegedly knocked down the deceased, reversed and ran over him again. Ntimana died instantly. The 42-year-old will soon appear in the Ritavi Magistrate Court on a charge of murder.
Suspected for murderA 45-year-old man was arrested for killing his woman friend, Raesetja Phoshoko (50), at Segwashi Village in Haenertzburg. The 45-year-old allegedly killed the deceased and buried her body in a shallow grave. The police reportedly found Phoshoko’s body aft er they received information of the incident. They then arrested the suspect. The motive for the murder is still unknown, but investigations are underway. The 45-year-old will appear in court soon.
A 72-year-old Beit Bridge resident pleaded guilty to theft aft er he was caught stealing a bott le of brandy to the value of R68 from a local shop. Themba Sibanda pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared before magistrate Sibongile Msipa, who convicted him.
On the day in question, Sibanda walked into Spar Supermarket at Beit Bridge and nicked a 375 ml of bott le of Viceroy and
tucked it into his trouser pocket. In mitigation, Sibanda left the
court laughing when he pleaded with the magistrate for leniency: “I am sorry I was tempted to steal.
I only had a Rand in my pocket, which was not enough to buy the bott le.
My wife is too talkative, and the only way I thought I could avoid her noise was simply to get drunk and go to sleep.”
The magistrate dressed Sibanda down before she warned, cautioned and discharged him. “Honestly, at the age of 72, how could you walk into a shop and steal a bott le of spirits? You should be ashamed of yourself as you stand in the dock. You told the court that you have been married to your wife since 1969 and therefore it means you are old and mature enough to sit down with her and talk whenever she annoys you, rather than resorting to stealing a bott le of spirits, so that you get drunk and avoid her,” the magistrate said.
‘My wife talks too much!’pleaded guilty to theft aft er he
tucked it into his trouser pocket.
I only had a Rand in my pocket, which was not enough to buy the bott le.

Vandag vra sy of jy jou kind ken. Kontak haar by 084 414 6166 of 015 307 5029 om navraag te doen.
Het-tie Britt z (2008. Growing kids with character) deel kinders se persoonlikheid in vier verskillende bome, naamlik ‘n roos-, palm-, sier- en denneboom.

‘Besides,’ said Em’ly..., ‘your father was a gentleman and your mother is a lady; and my father was a fi sher-man and my mother was a fi sherman’s daughter, and my uncle Dan is a fi sh-erman.’‘Dan is Mr. Peggotty, is he?’ said I.‘Uncle Dan — yonder,’ answered
Em’ly, nodding at the boat-house.‘Yes. I mean him. He must be very
good, I should think?’‘Good?’ said Em’ly. ‘If I was ever to
be a lady, I’d give him a sky-blue coat with diamond buttons, nankeen trou-sers, a red velvet waistcoat, a cocked hat, a large gold watch, a silver pipe, and a box of money.’‘You would like to be a lady?’ I said.Emily looked at me, and laughed and
nodded ‘yes’.‘I should like it very
much. We would all be gentlefolks together, then. Me, and uncle, and Ham, and Mrs. Gum-midge. We wouldn’t mind then, when there comes stormy weather.—-Not for our own sakes, I mean. We would for the poor fi shermen’s, to be sure, and we’d help ‘em with money when they come to any hurt.’ C. Dickens. 1850. David Copperfi eldThe Oxford South African Con-
cise Dictionary‘s fi rst defi nition of a gentleman states, “a courteous [‘polite, respectful, and consider-ate’] or honourable man”This is of course a different man
from the gentleman we see in clas-sic novels, or is it really? I doubt many people would today consid-er a man of Mr Peggoty’s situation a gentleman.Similarly, the same dictionary
defi nes a lady as, amongst other things, “a courteous or genteel woman”. Again, this woman is considerably different in both manner and social standing from the Ladies in classic novels.Of Lady Catherine de Bourg, in
Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice,
the narrator states:Her air was not con-
ciliating, nor was her manner of receiving [her visitors] such as to make [them] forget their inferior rank. She was
not rendered formidable by silence; but whatever she said was spoken in so authoritative a tone, as marked her self-importance...
The social class has indeed evolved. Moreover, women no longer need to be married to attain the class. We are, however, argu-ably trading infl uence to attain the class.Again in Austen’s Pride and Pre-
judice, although Lady de Bourg’s character has little short of mean-
ness, pride and prejudice, Eliza-beth soon discovers this to be her instrument of infl uence. As the narrator states:
Elizabeth soon perceived, that though this great lady was not in commission of the peace of the county, she was a most active magistrate in her own parish... whenever any of the cottag-ers were disposed to be quarrelsome, discontented, or too poor, she sallied forth into the village to settle their dif-ferences, silence their complaints, and scold them into harmony and plenty.
Today’s ladies, on the other hand, are expected to be “courteous or genteel [‘affectionately polite and refi ned’]”. This, in my opinion, does not relate to much infl uence in society.

Ken jy jou kind?

The reality is that human beings could not even obey ten simple commandments; how are they suppose to obey all the new regulations instituted daily?
By implication we are all guilty until proven innocent, these days...

Ben Vorster vier 53ste verjaardag
Four of Merensky High School’s sta members attended a school marketing course last week. The event was organised by Messrs Darryl Weir and Willem Strauss from BizSkills and BizSport South Africa. In session one of this two year programme, candidates focus on the importance of marketing and how to compile a practical marketing plan. They are also taught the tricks of the trade concerning networking, and liaising with the media. Seen here are Mesrs Darryl Weir, Willem Strauss, Ms Magriet vd Merwe, Messrs Kobus Vorster, Hein van Heerden and Louis du Preez.
On 27 January Merensky pupils had their annual fun run. On a sunny afternoon, all and sundry gathered at the school entrance to jog to the nature reserve and back, with a record breaking entry of 340 pupils and several daring teachers. Mr Hein van Heerden and Ms Willa Marais won the teachers race. As tradition dictates, the fruit fun after the run was enjoyed by one and all, as well as the subsequent scrubbing with over ripe tomatoes. The fun run winners were Christelle Coetzer (junior girl), Armand Cronje (junior boy), Gwendy Botha (senior girl) and MJ Bench and Stefan Pretorius (senior boys). Seen here are Kayla, Naledi and Dimple applying tomato make-up during the fruit fun.
Merensky High School hosted their annual new parents’ event last week, o ering one and all the opportunity to get to know each other, as well as the school on a more personal level. It included an Amazing Plasie Race and a visit to the Merensky museum, where they witnessed Plasie history and listened to the roar of the mighty old Ruston. After that they were treated to cocktails and snacks. There the principal, Mr Magnus Steyn, challenged two dads to a “minute-to-win-it” competition. From there the parents took a detour to the hall where a unique rendition of “Who wants to be a Mooo-lianare” was played. The parents closed the evening with a traditional braai at the swimming pool.
Mr Sam Morerwa passed away after a short illness on Thursday 29 January. He was a very loyal and long serving employee at Stan-ford Lake College, having been at the school since its inception in 1998. His main job was the school’s driver, but he was far more than that — a dedicated and hard working real ‘gentleman’ whom all the pupils loved. He al-ways had a smile and would go the extra mile to get the job done properly. He will be sorely missed. The late Morerwa was married, with
two young children.
A group of the top 10 Grade 8 to 11 pupils of 2014 from Merensky High School spent a short holiday in Natal at the beginning of the new school year.
They spent time in the shops and movies at
the Galleria Centre, enjoyed an exciting time at an ice skating rink and visited the Wild Coast Sun Water World in Port Edward.
Ushaka Marine World in Durban was also on their to-do-list where they experienced the
dolphin show at the aquarium and lounged on the beach. The close bond between these top academic learners was strengthened with quality conversations and a pact to support each other in their quest for excellence.
Verskeie nuwe byeenkomsrekords is opgestel.
Fortune Sehla-bane of Duiwels-kloof Primary School was named junior victor ludorum at the FNB Ath-letics meeting that was held at Duiwelskloof Pri-
mary.

Ek sluit graag af met Ayn Rand, bekende skrywer van Altlas Shrugged: When you see that trading is done, not by consent but by compul-sion.
“... when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who pro-duce nothing; when you see money fl owing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors;when you see that men get richer by graft and pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you; when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self sacrifi ce,you may know that your society is doomed.”

A “Coff ee for Marcelle Day” will be held at Twig’s, 4 Boundary Street, Tzaneen, tomorrow (7 February) at 10:00. Twig’s owner, Ms Dale Kenney, says it’s a morning to show that the community cares about its people. T-shirts and mugs inscribed with the words “Coff ee for Marcelle Day” will be sold and the public is asked to presents and messages of support for Marcelle.
Marcelle van Vuuren (23), a loved hair stylist in Tzaneen,
had a head-on-collision near Soekmekaar in December. Passenger, Ms Carla Swart, died. Marcelle is in a Pretoria hospital, where she’s
still under the watchful care of a team of doctors. She had both legs amputated above the knee; and she had severe back and internal injuries. She’s had several operations.

is onherwinbaar.
Spoedkamera is onwettig

So moes Vrystaat mos op ’n keer daar gaan
Wie kan byvoorbeeld vergeet hoe ontstig BB-ondersteuners was oor Securicor Loft us, voorheen Minolta Loft us.
“We call a person who has lost his parents an orphan; by what name do we call someone who has known the immense unhappiness of losing a friend?” — Joseph Roux
Fienk Pienk!Stinkende Stadions
