Ceramics and Sculpture
FIGURATIVE WORK Multiple variations on the figure in different
degrees of abstraction.
Combining People with Animals…
Mixed Media… Ceramic, Twigs, Glaze, Paint…
Abstract Interpretations of the bust…
Another example of combining humans and animals…
Abstracted Figurative Forms.
Heavily abstracted figurative art.
Abstracted Figure with Bird on head. Unusual juxtaposition of unrelated objects.
A combination of humans, objects and storytelling.
A combination of sculpting, drawing and painting.
Abstracted figures heavily influenced by the artist’s native culture.
Combines humanistic like figures with animals. Reflective of the aesthetic of the Egyptian culture.
ASSEMBLAGE An unusual juxtaposition of found and
sculpted objects. Mixed media.
Assemblage. Here, a nest and a sculpted figure.
Assemblage. Human references and found object.
Assemblage… Could be done in a cut out book or a cigar box… You would need to have a strong ceramic component but could add all different kinds of objects.
A different kind of assemblage… Out of the box. You would need to have a strong ceramic component, but could bring in other objects to combine with your sculpted pieces. Here, they are all painted the same color to create a strong sense of unity.
FORMALISM Focusing purely on the relationship of the
elements of art and principles of design.
Formalist Sculpture. Focuses mainly on the formal aspects of art, in an attempt to balance on the interaction of the chosen elements and principles.
Formalist Abstract Design. Very organic. Heavy in earth tones. Glazed and painted.
Formalist Sculpture: A great variety of forms all in the cool/neutral color scheme. Column Composition, not unlike a totem pole.
BAS RELIEF The following pieces are done in the bas
relief style. Would need to be done as a series.
Bas Relief. An entire series of tiles exhibiting a great number of different designs and textures.
Bas Relief Series.
Bas Relief Tile… Forms from
Nature
Cut paper sculpture, but could be translated into ceramics. Bas Relief without the tile. Would be very fragile to handle, but possible to accomplish.
MASKS Several varied examples. Would need to be
done in some kind of series.
Masks: A series of ideas within one genre could be explored. Masks can not be copies of originals, but could borrow heavily from a chosen tradition or culture.
Much along the lines of the last piece, but with a different style.
Masks with a lot of detailing, color and personality. Greatly abstracted.
FASHIONISTA Sculpture with a tip of the hat to the fashion
world…
All Ceramic Dress. You could not work quite this large, but you could do a moderatly sized piece/a series in this vein.
Abstracted fashion turned into sculture. The same form is repeated several times, with the only strong variation being with the color from object to object.
Animals and Vegetation Varied interpretation of animals and
vegetation in different degrees of abstraction.
Abstracted, Simplified Animals on Base
Borrowing heavily from nature…
These forms are very closely related to specific animals, but take great liberty with artistic choices in color and design.
Architectural forms. Abstracted. Combined with animals, creates interesting composition.
Abstraction of Vegetation: Here, a pumpkin, a gourd and an apple.
