National Honor Society
Attention all returning students!
CATS students who have at least a ‘B’ grade average will have the opportunity to join the National Honor Society.
The National Honor Society (NHS) is a great booster to college applications. Membership in the society is one of the greatest honors for high school students.
Students that meet the requirements will be inducted early in 2018 and are expected to meet very high standards of academic, personal and community excellence.
What is the NHS?
The NHS is a nationwide organization for high school students in the US. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. The Alpha chapter of NHS was founded at Fifth Avenue High School by Principal Edward S. Rynearson in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Now that our first semester has ended and the examination period is over, it is worth remembering all the fantastic successes that our students have enjoyed so far this school year in so many different areas.
Our boys’ and girls’ soccer teams both experienced terrific seasons, our Math team was highly successful in a statewide competition, we saw the best drama production our school has ever produced, and our Model UN team performed strongly at their Princeton University competition to name just a few.
As I reflect on these achievements, I can’t help but feel a great sense of pride in all the members of our CATS community. I am incredibly excited about the start of the new semester, especially to be welcoming a new group of students who will be joining us for the first time, and for all the future successes our students will enjoy with the outstanding support that our faculty and staff always extend. In the meantime, I would like to wish everyone a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable holiday season!

CATS visit MIT as part of the Outreach Program
CATS Academy took part in the program and chemistry students were given science simulations and presentations by PhD students at the MIT Chemical Engineering Department.

The event followed with a luncheon where CATS students could chat with PhD students about life at MIT and also pursuing math, science, technology and engineering at college level.

Metamorphoses – a collection of Greek Mythologies – has come to CATS Boston. Based on the script written by Mary Zimmerman, the stories of love in various forms captivated the inner sentiments of viewers. With contributions from many different departments, costumes, music and staging.
The cast of the show was extremely enthusiastic. Seeing how they interacted on and off stage gave a sense of energy so fresh it transpired into every line and action. Working with them on stage was not solely about performing, but largely about living the part itself.
The Fall PlayMetamorphoses - based on the Tales of Ovid
As the school year begins to pick up its pace, so are the creative art projects of CATS Academy Boston. Metamorphoses is the opening shot to this year’s theatre productions aiming for a new take on some complex and surreal ideas regarding love in many forms. It was highly anticipated – and rightfully so – the hard work and commitment from every department working on the show paid off as Metamorphoses took to the stage on the 8th and 9th of December.

Princeton Model United Nations Conference(PMUNC) by Amber Nguyen
We checked in at the hotel after a day-long trip. Everywhere, people were striding with confidence, attired like professional CEOs of multinational corporations. I felt slightly intimidated.
Nine students and two advisors from CATS Boston took their seats for the opening ceremony. This involved a college-style lecture, which I could have forgotten if not for the eloquent, self assured speeches and humorous delivery of the PMUNC organizers, (all Princeton students).
The first committee session took place after dinner. My committee – the International Criminal Court (ICC) went straight into business. ICC is a specialized committee and does not function like normal general assemblies: we were a court. Each team had four to five judges, and were appointed to defend, prosecute and judge different cases. My team were lucky (or unlucky due to the strain from travelling previously in the day) as the chair looked favorably upon the defense of Ariel Sharon. With extensive research and background checks, I realized that Sharon was almost impossible to defend before the ICC for the crimes of Genocide that he committed. With minimal contribution in the opening statement, I went back to the CATS meeting at 11pm in defeat.
The next day was the campus tour and two committee sessions in the afternoon until the evening. My teammates did well, and the witnesses we cross-examined were all giving answers in our
favor. I caught up with the fierce flow of the court and began to actively participate in every case. Outside the sessions, our team met to prepare for our next arguments.
We functioned independently then came together as a group to put our ideas into a logical schedule. With sharp questions and distinctive observations, my team won the first case and successfully defended a
man who was – as the chair said – completely guilty.
Nothing was clearly white nor black, and one’s logical assessments were the key to determining a specific case. After all, our team ended winninganother case – the prosecution of Tony Blair – and fairly pronounced Harold. S Truman as guilty.
Before leaving, we took a walk down the famous Times Square. On the bus back to school at 8pm, I thought back on the event and decided that Princeton Model United Nations Conference was a
great thing, before falling asleep.

Scholars ProgramJanuary Trips
New London, Connecticut and Mystic Seaport
Date: Saturday January 13, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PMWe will visit New London, Connecticut is site of the US Coast Guard Academy and Connecticut College. Mystic Seaport is the largest museum of historic ships in the US.
Worcester, Massachusetts
Date: Saturday January 208:00 AM to 8:00 PMWe will visit Worcester Art Museum and three colleges: Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Holy Cross, a liberal arts college similar to Boston College and Clark University.
Salem Massachusetts
Date: Saturday January 278:00 AM to 8:00 PM Near Salem we will visit Endicott College, then we will visit the Peabody Essex Museum, a leading museum of maritime and Asian art in the US. The Peabody Essex Museum also has a large historic house moved to the US from China.
The scholars program offers extra cultural and educational experiences to top students at CATS Academy Boston.

London Exchange Program March 3-17 2018
We are pleased to announce CATS Academy Boston’s third annual trip to London, March 3-17, 2018. Up to ten students will spend the first two weeks of March vacation at our partner school, CATS College London, in historic Bloomsbury Square, central London. The school is located only a few blocks from the British Museum, the University of London, Covent Garden, Oxford Street, and the West End. The trip offers a full academic and cultural program, including daytrips to Oxford, Cambridge, and Canterbury, and visits to the other CATS colleges.
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
The academic focus of the trip will be students taking classes in the morning, Monday-Friday for two weeks in the regular session of CATS College London. Students choose classes and work closely with CATS College London teachers preparing students for A-levels in English Literature, Fine Art, Modern Languages, and Photography; Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics; Geography, Government and Politics, History, Psychology, and Sociology; Business, and Economics. Students feel the quality of instruction at CATS College London is a highlight of the trip. Afternoon tours include St Paul’s Cathedral, the Bank of England museum, the City financial district, and the Houses of Parliament.
CULTURAL PROGRAM
The London trip is an opportunity to spend time in one of the world’s great cities and to experience British culture. There are group visits to the Tower of London, the British Museum, a West End musical, Arsenal stadium, Madame Tussaud’s wax museum, and the Harry Potter studio tour. We take an open-bus tour and cruise on the Thames River before going up in the London Eye (a giant Ferris wheel). Students also find time for shopping, to meet students at the CATS Colleges, to visit the Sherlock Holmes museum, the London Shard (tallest building in the UK), the Imperial War Museum, HMS Belfast, and Churchill war rooms.
