Biodiversity Examinations (35%)
• Quizzes

– announced/unannounced
– at least once per week
• Long Exams
– at least 30 points/exam
– 2-3 exams per quarter
– announced at least 1 week before exam date
Periodic Exam (25%)
– 80 points, multiple choice, departmental
– no bonus questions
– no exemptions
** Postquarter exam given to those who missed 60% or more of the total quiz points or a long exam for valid reasons. Coverage is the same as that of the Periodic Exam.

Biodiversity Activities (20%)
• at least 1 lab activity (group work) per quarter
• lab groupings:
– 3 persons/lab group
– submit a shoebox with the following materials: 70% rubbing alcohol
old newspapers
scissors
detergent
germicidal hand soap
masking tape
permanent marker
rags
tissue paper
transparent tape
• label with the following information
1. section
2. group number
3. group members
• laboratory reports/worksheets
– Each lab activity is accompanied by an individual written report (focuses on writing skills)/group worksheet (summarizes data, includes answers to guide questions).
• Read and sign the laboratory safety contract.

Ecology Evolution
Biodiversity Recitation, SW/HW, Notebook (20%)
• Recitation (8%): 40 pts will be awarded to the student(s) who have recited at least once per recitation day. The rest of the class will be graded accordingly.
• Seatwork/Homework (8%): Short activities that may be completed during class hours or at home.
• Notebook (4%)
– 20 pts plus possible bonus points for complete (even additional notes) and well-organized notes.
– Notebooks will be collected sometime mid-quarter (unannounced) and right after the Periodic Exam.
– If the student obtains a grade of 1.75 or better, the notebook need not be submitted anymore next quarter

Biodiversity Classroom Policies
• The PSHS Code of Conduct will be strictly observed.
• Any submissions past the set deadline (even seconds or minutes after) will be given a grade of ZERO.
• If a scheduled exam or submission deadline is affected by suspension of classes, it is moved to the nearest class day unless otherwise specified.
• Cellular phones may not be used within the classroom unless express permission is given.
• Eating is strictly prohibited inside the classroom. Only water is allowed inside the room.
• Students who sleep in class will be required to perform a given activity that promotes blood flow to the brain.
• Students engaging in disruptive/inattentive behavior will be asked to facilitate the next session’s lectures/activities.
