Insurance rates can be lessexpensive and there is a widerrange of types and models fromwhich to choose.

Laurie Rockell, of Laurie MotorsRockell Pty Ltd, who specialisesused cars, said he was simplyamazed at the difference in prices.

“Used cars have never beencheaper than they are at themoment.”

“I’ve never seen them thischeap, that’s for sure,” he said.

Mr Rockell sources most of hiscars locally. They are all workshoptested before being put on the mar-ket.

Motor industry websites sayyounger people are believed to bemore attracted to purchasing newcars.

They are often influenced by theidea that newer vehicles are morecost-effective in regards to fuel effi-ciency.

But, potential buyers will findthat most vehicles depreciate in

value each passing month and kilo-metre driven. New cars can lose upto 40 per cent or more of their origi-nal value within their first year onthe roads.

The websites say drivers of usedcars are thought to possess astronger peace of mind.

When it comes to a shiny, brandnew vehicle, drivers can unknow-ingly be extra cautious (and nerv-ous) worrying about things like thefirst minor paint chip from a park-ing-lot incident.

Buying a used vehicle can ease adriver’s peace of mind because theprevious owners have more thanlikely started the tally of damagerepairs for them.

Insurance rates can be affectedby the age of a vehicle. Rates for aused cars are less expensive in mostcases than those for a new vehicle.

The variety of vehicles availableand ability for greater choice arefactors that work for used cars.

Although the wider range of

options in used cars can add to thelength of the search for a vehicle, the driver can get satisfaction frombeing able to pick the car andmodel they really want.

Mr Rockell confirmed that relia-bility of the old outweighs theappeal of the new.

If a driver does enough research, has negotiating skills and is in con-tact with the right dealers, theoption of purchasing a used car canbe rewarding.
