Personal StatementThe position I currently hold is a Human Resource Generalist, and although I deal with issues on a regular basis, my goal is to improve my skills in all areas. The character traits I hold are the ones I can develop in an organization in order to reach my true potential. My strength is employee relations issues, because I am able to adapt to other individuals’ style of communication.
Integrity is a big part of my life already, because I grew up with doing what I say I will do. I have always been optimistic because I see the positive side in most situations. As a leader, have the ability to see what lies inside and outside the box as well as overlooked opportunities.
Embracing change is something that every organization deals with some time or another. When technology advances, it is a challenge for me, because I strive in understanding all aspects of it. My main goal is to implement change smoothly along with analyzing the potential risks that may cause resistance. The reason for this is to implement a plan that would be in place to address the different levels of resistance.
An area I am most interested at improving is developing front line managers into the leaders in an organization.
I have had the pleasure in serving on the following boards:• Vice President in Marketing for Toast Masters for 2011 - current• Secretary for the Parent Teacher Association at M & R Elementary for 2009-current• Parent Teacher Student Association at I.W. High School for 2010- current• Safety Committee for Non-Profits, 2007- Current
Below are the following goals I have in order to enhance my professional skills:• 1 year goal: B.A. in Industrial Organizational Psychology• 2 year goal: Professional in Human Resources certification• 5 year goals: M.A in Industrial Organizational Psychology & Senior Professional in Human Resources
certification

My oral skills are much stronger than my written skills. But I can happily say that I almost mastered APA. In the beginning of my term with Argosy, I had a difficult time when I wrote my papers.
Based on the SSAL I have some items I need to work on when it comes to emphasizing Psychological policies and procedures. The papers I chose had not discussed the ethics that involve psychology.

A school psychologist in a classroom wants to find the effect that five teaching styles have on three types of learning activities with respect to knowledge gained. In this situation the dependant variable is knowledge gained. The independent variables are learning activity, teaching style and interaction of the variables.Null Hypothesis is: If M1=M2 then there is no statistical significance difference between teaching styles of learning activities with respect to knowledge gained. Alternate Hypothesis: If M1 ≠ M2; then there is a statistical significance between teaching styles of learning activities with respect to knowledge gained. The Level of significance: since the level of significance is not provided we will assume a .01, to be the level of significance.Initially I thought that we should use the repeated-measures design since we are measuring the same people before and after some psychological and social intervention. But when I really researched additional information the design I chose to use is the two-way factorial research design because these individuals are grouped according to the combination of the variables to determine the effects which are being studied (Aron, Aron, and Coups, 2008).The A Row Factor would be Learning activities. The B Column Factor is the Teaching style. A x B is the interaction of both. The F values using this data are 1.68, 34.33, and 18.11 (Argosy University, 2011).In my conclusionF(2,15) = 28.8 , p < .01 = 6.36. Here the Null Hypothesis is RejectedF(4,15) = 12.39, p < .01 = 4.89; Null Hypothesis is RejectedF(8,15) = 4.32, p = .122 = 4.32: Do not Reject Null Hypothesis.

Using Data at Work
The collection of data is an important one in the department I currently work for. I work for
a non-profit organization that helps people overcome any barriers to employment. As a Human
Resource Generalist I need to have a wide range of knowledge in different areas. With this also
comes having to back up such knowledge when it is provided.
Creating an organizational culture that values its employees and their thoughts can provide
all employees with higher levels of morale. In order for a company or organization to be
successful in the attraction and retention of its employees, the organization should be
committed to invest in program to attract, develop and retain their employees. Providing a
clear direction and purpose the foundation of what the culture will be can create the
commitment of current employees so they are retained.
There are several concepts that can impact a person by the rewards it gives. The positives
are numerous and examples are the following:
Options in schedules/Condensed
Work Schedule
Benefits
Levels in Responsibility
Training/Development
Research Skills (cont.)
The primary purpose of the visual reported data is to establish if the organization can
increase employee retention by incorporating new strategies for future success in the
organization. Allowing flexible schedules or a condensed work week would be something that
can be incorporated. Training and the development of its employees will also provide a higher
level of morale. This will provide a sense of commitment from the employer to employee.
Compensation which is a huge impact on reasons that might result in turnover, therefore
companies can compensate it in other ways if increasing the salary range is not an option. They
can provide an attractive benefits package (Noe, 2009).
In the end the employment relationship should change to accommodate for the changing
generations. The attraction lies with flexible work schedules, working conditions that are
comfortable in all levels, greater autonomy, the opportunity to be able to train so they develop
their skills, and financial incentives (Noe, 2009).
In this case the question is: Will any of the four categories increase the chances for
employee retention? The research question is a very important part of any visual data analysis
because it provides details of the content area of investigation, research design of the study,
and method of analysis. And in this case I would elect to use quantitative variables, specifically
rank-order variables (Argosy University, 2011).
Research Skills (cont.)
For this the organization has already done studies that conclude by using the four bulleted
points will more likely increase retention if used appropriately according to your organizational
structure and culture. So this is forcing the employees to rate the four bulleted items with a
rating scale of the following: Rate your options from 1-4, with one being your first choice and 4
being your last choice (Aron, Aron & Coups, 2008).
This way the reported data that would be used is a hystograpm that includes the frequency
ratings. This will allow the leaders of the organization with the information that was gathered
by getting first hand input from the employees and show what will work and what is the highest
score in what they would like to see.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin. English-only policies may constitute discrimination based on national origin.
There are alternatives to an English-only policy, such as policies pertaining to professional conduct and using team-building activities to improve communication among employees.

Organizational Communication: Team Work
Businesses have employees from different backgrounds and religion, so as an
organization, their duty is to train employees to be aware of cultural beliefs and standards. It is
necessary for businesses to do so, because failing to accommodate cultural aspects could cost
losing valuable employees’ (Argosy University, 2011). Since Labolg recently expanded into
other countries, production was negatively affected because of personal and cultural differences.
By analyzing the situation employees and their prejudices were evident, making the
environment hostile in various degrees. Typically, people justify prejudice with various degrees
of hostility which creates discriminating behavior. In turn, this leads to lowered morale,
unproductive employees, miss-communication, expensive law suites and decreased revenue.
Many times when individuals think of cultural differences, often we don’t think of the
differences in corporate cultures (Carr-Ruffino, 2007). International communication also affects
employees, because of individuals’ norms of their cultures. The gaps in communication are
found in; vocabulary is easily misrepresented, enunciation might not translate correctly, volume
may cause confusion and creates unpleasant experiences for employees (Chalotte, 2002).
Ethics and Diversity (cont.)M. Gonzalez: Team Work 1
As a driver, to establish what Labolg necessities are, it is important to address the needs
of the organization. But before one can talk about such needs, the understanding for diversity
within an organization should first be established. For leaders to be supportive of cultural
diversity, they need to have a buy in so change can take place at both the systematic and
individual levels.
The recommendations I have for Labolg are the following. To begin, the organization
should view what its present status is by doing surveys on how the employees feel we are at.
This can provide Labolg insight to the internal organizational system and individual diversity.
Being able to brainstorm with the panel will allow for the use of creativity for all and not
just mine. It will also be the beginning of having a defined diversity program that benefits not
only our internal employees, but our customers, clients and suppliers. The diversity program
will be the foundation for creating a corporate philosophies, policies, programs, processes and
practices (Carr-Ruffino, 2007). Increasing diversity training programs and having taking an
initiative in helping individuals will only expand the market and attract a diverse culture and
allow for an ongoing success in the organization.
Ethics and Diversity (cont.)M. Gonzalez: Team Work 1
Additionally employees may request for religious accommodations. The request for
accommodations should be addressed in a timely manner. The recommendation would be to
accommodate the employees’ religious practices so the company won’t be violating Title V11 of
the Civil Rights Act religious discrimination. We should allow them to pray according to their
religious tenets. The Civil Rights Act requires employers to attempt to make reasonable
accommodations to sincerely held religious beliefs of employees as long as this poses no undue
hardship to the employer.
Adjusted break time
Safe environment for praying away from production
Training to its employees at the facility on the requirements related to religious
accommodation under federal law
The request would not be costly, inefficient, unsafe, or negatively impact co-workers’ rights.
This is also true with locating a place where they can use while they pray is something that can
be done. This will also enhance the companies’ vision of future goals with diversity (Pellet,
2005).
Ethics and Diversity (cont.)M. Gonzalez: Team Work 1
Lastly, it is essential that Labolg implements a training program for leaders and management.
Managers should take the time to better understand the norms of their employees cultures.
Standards of behavior and social interaction may vary greatly from the norms of one country to
the other and the earlier the management implements effective training they can change the
environment in their teams (Hattersley, & McJannet, 2008)

Foundations of Psychology (cont.)
Problem Solving 1 Problem Solving Strategies
Problem solving and decision making is a complicated process that individuals face every
day. This difficult task requires individuals to think through a situation and chose a different course
of action than what was previously considered or thought of.
In this case study Maria has been faced with a task that would want to make some
individuals run the other way. Maria is assigning a task which requires them to go above and
beyond what is written on the page. She will be pushing them outside their own zone of comfort.
This will require them to experience a new area. For Maria to be successful she will need to be able
to accomplish several things. She must be able to connect with each pairing along with helping
them process the information. With that, Maria will also need to consider any possible outcomes
and she will need to decide on the best course of action depending on what the outcomes will be.
Problem is defined as the process of formulating new answers, and going beyond the
simple application of previously learned rules to create a solution or achieve a goal (Argosy
University, 2010). Each student in Maria’s class has been tasked with using the information they
have been given and apply it to possible solutions. They were first tasked with the research and
investigation of various endangered species.
Foundations of Psychology (cont.)
Problem Solving 1 This will not be a simple task that can be accomplished by simply reading the material. The students
are being challenged by having to anticipate potential outcomes and determine the best solution
available that will protect the designated species and allow for repopulation.
Maria should also begin the instruction to her students with a coaching feel to it. She should
give examples of possible solutions to allow the children to see the process in the real world.
Although it will be difficult for Maria to provide proper reasoning and judgment and her sixth grade
students, she must remain focused on her task and seeing the process in action will be essential.
Once the students have seen the process in action, they must dig into the materials provided and
understand the concepts. Maria must allow them an incubation period in which each person is
allowed a certain amount of time to eliminate unhelpful pieces of information and choose the more
effective direction (Argosy University, 2010). Once this has been accomplished the students will
now be able to propose possible solutions with each other and on their own to gain feedback from
their fellow students.
As the students are going through the problem solving process, they will fall to a place where
they must make a decision. Decision making is a higher level of cognitive process by which the
person selects the most appropriate response or solution (Argosy University, 2010).
Foundations of Psychology (cont.)
Problem Solving 1 Once they have studies the information that was made available to them for their species,
they will then process the information. Students will them talk about possible solutions and the pairs
will need to make a decision regarding the best outcome or plan.
Now that they have accomplished that stage deduction will be the next step because it will
allow the students to use the facts they received to remove those that don’t belong. Students have
several ways in which they can experience this process but dealing with it directly and coming up
with real life experiences and examples will be beneficial for them.

Applied Psychology (cont.)
As a cell begins to reproduce, cells have begun to make up living beings. The
physical, cognitive, and Socioemotional development occurs. The way the mother cares for
herself and her child has an overall impact. In early childhood there are medical conditions
which can impact how a child can grow, such as nutrition. Mental abilities also begin and
need to be stimulated and guided along with emotional nurturing. An overview of the
physical aging process begins merely immediately. When people are born the cells are
immature and young. The cells in the brain are communicating with all the other cells and
make a person function and grow. Depending how a person has mentally and physically
taken care of themselves can determine how long a person has to live and how the cells in
the whole body begin to deteriorate.
The skin which is the largest organ of the body begins changing as early as 20 years
old. There is loss of elasticity and age spots are more noticeable in late adulthood. Wrinkles
and the ability to regulate body temperature also decrease. Muscle strength and mass
decreases to a point where it is almost physically impossible for elderly people to move. The
aging process affects the respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, immune, lymphatic, and
urinary system. (Argosy University, 2007) These are major areas that make it possible for
the body to function well. Now that these are affected several medical conditions arise and
some become irreversible and lead to further medical conditions. An example is when the
pancreas stops producing insulin. Though there is medication a person can take, it only
leads to other medical issues. Since the insulin that is injected is not natural insulin a person
can live healthy and long being diabetic, but it takes a toll on the body and affects it
drastically. There are alternatives, but when it gets to a point where blood transfusions are
becoming regular, it begins affecting other major organs.
Applied Psychology (cont.) Strokes, kidney failure and coronary artery disease are the negative results of a failing
cardiovascular system. Over time these occur because of an increase of the heart and blood
pressure. Since the respiratory system also begins to affect the body, aerobic activity is
recommended. The oxygen intake makes it difficult for movement to happen because of the
tiredness (Argosy University, 2007). The digestive system is very important in late adulthood
because it breaks down nutrients that the body needs. There is a delay when the stomach
empties in order to eliminate wastes. When this occurs it can make an older person have
more severe infections. This can then lead to other medical conditions since the immune
system is also affected. The body can’t fight the infection and a common flu can be life
threatening to an older person.
The body systems are also affected. The brain decreases in weight and a decline in
short-term memory occurs. Older people have sensory problems and can become dizzy fast.
When this occurs they can fall much easier and since the musculoskeletal system is also
being affected bones break much easier making the healing process a longer one. (Argosy
University, 2007) Since these diseases attach the body, older people are more likely to die
from chronic diseases. These diseases often begin at an earlier stage in life and older
people are aware of the consequences of chronic diseases.
Health care has been a major issue of continued care. Regular health checkups are
important. These chronic medical conditions can be very painful for an older person and if no
care is offered due to harsh financial abilities, this may lead to euthanasia. Hospice care is
also an option and typically is thought out some time.
Applied Psychology (cont.) This decision is made to live life free from pain knowing death is near. Hospital care is an option for
continued care to fight the chronic conditions which they may be dying of. There are home alternatives as well and
home hospice care where the care is facilitated in the home and home-health-care when one is being cared for and
fighting the chronic diseases at home with family members to assist (Santrock 2009). Typically these options are
well discussed to the route the dying individual would like to take.
There are several stages of dying that Kubler-Ross describes. Denial to deaths is the most common feeling.
Anger follows because the person is upset they are dying and why it is happening to them. The anger makes them
become depressed because they will no longer be a pert of the life they have always knows. Usually they become
discouraged to continue medical care and even don’t want to see their own family members. Acceptance is when
the person is at peace of what will occur. Some never feel the acceptance of death because they are constantly
fighting to continue or try anything in order to keep them alive. Others have family members who fight for them
regardless of the feelings of the dying person. The communication should be kept open through the dying process.
This will help in telling stories that they may want to have told too many generations to come (Santrock 2009).
Acceptance of death of people is very difficult to cope with. Loosing a person who has been there can send
feelings of despair, sadness, and loneliness. These feelings usually pass as time goes by, but the cognitive factors
can surface in different degrees. Some have long-term grief and are in disbelief that the person died. This can
cause depression and anxiety. People who have enduring despair and the feelings are unresolved is considered to
be prolonged grief. This occurs when this person was dependant to the person who died.
Applied Psychology (cont.) Skills that can be used to help reduce prolonged grief are motivational interviewing, and
communication skills (Santrock, 2009). If the death was a violent, sudden or traumatic it can negatively add to the
grieving process. The loss of a life partner can also impact the length of time that mourning and grieving process will
last (Santrock, 2009) the quality of life is extremely important a patient who does not have the quantity of life then the
next step is to make sure the quality of the life he has remaining is with as much dignity as possible. Death is
irrefutable and a respect to their wishes should be followed. It is an ethical dilemma (Argosy University, 2007).
That is why it is important to discuss this prior to needing it. Religion and spiritual beliefs are important if they
are important to the patient. Many older adults or people who are diagnosed with a terminal illness find comfort and
strength in their faith. Some people who are not necessarily religious or spiritual may find comfort or strength
elsewhere. Each individual is different and their beliefs should be respected.
Charles was had not accepted he was dying and his delusions kept him from being at peace. He was
constantly living in prolonged-grief because he believed his mother had been violently murdered. Since
Charles had mental problems this would have kept him from preparing mentally of his coming death.
Financially he was not equipped to have many options. Paul however had prepared for his own death. Paul
discussed his wishes to his wife and children if he should not consciously make a decision they would know
what his option would be. Religious beliefs were very important to Paul and his wife and made it clear what he
wanted. Since He was able to keep the communication open, the decisions he made for himself will be
followed and respected by his family members.

Interpersonal Effectiveness (cont.) Word Superiority 1
Word Superiority
Word superiority effect is a phenomenon of identifying visual targets. But
individuals are still extremely efficient at being able to recognize patterns. For children it
is much more difficult than for most adults.
In this case study my six-year-old nephew is reading with me. I have asked him
to randomly pick the letter /n/ and to make the /n/ sound which he has difficulty. But he
doesn’t have difficulty when asked to read the word “nanny”. Taking a closer look at this
Work Superiority can play a very important role.
Children make progress as they go through their growth periods, but they also run
into trouble with various processes. An example of such deficiency in the cognitive
development that children share is Word Superiority. When performing the CogLab
demonstration it was a bit of a struggle. From the readings this was due to the limited
cognitive ability developed in that skill set as well and the limited vocabulary mastery of
the language. But this would be true for a child, but it can also be challenging for adults.
Language is communicated written or oral word. In order for readers to find meaning,
readers must be able to construct them (Argosy University, 2010). The readers are
responsible for constructing pieces of the language and children do not have the proper
capabilities to do this in a consistent manner.
Interpersonal Effectiveness (cont.)
Word Superiority 1 Going back to my six-year-old nephew, there are many things that could be
done to increase the likelihood of his success. To begin with, being able to determine the
various letter patterns that may contain the letter “n” as in this example is essential. The
letter ‘n” was being used which has one possible sound, can be considered a simple one.
I would have my nephew find words and sentences that contain similar usages of the
letter “n” and ask him to repeat them out loud so he can incorporate other aspects of
language comprehension including the speech auditory recognition that is involved.
Since the letter “n” doesn’t make other sounds, I would still keep in mind
other letters that may produce different sounds in different situations. Adding difficulty
to a test that is already challenging can be a set back to my nephew including other
children. Studies have also shown that increased comprehension when the use of rhyme
and song is introduced. Finding the patterns in pronunciation can be used later to get a
greater advantage and knowing them better (Argosy University, 2010).
Interpersonal Effectiveness (cont.)
Word Superiority 1 Word Superiority is a complex language and can defy previous
understandings of cognition and memory. Many other ideas about memory encoding,
storage and recalling the isolation of a given object can increase the likelihood that it is
remembered correctly. This idea states that the given letter needs to be included in a
familiar word to be picked up properly. In psychology there are countless ideas that
conflict and it is up to the individual or child to determine the right course of action.

My Future in Learning
I have always believed that learning is a lifelong process. One of the hardest lessons I have had to overcome is the struggles of being a teenage mother. But a school counselor had told me, not to give up and to continue learning through not only my education, but life experiences as well.
And I feel that I have done just that. It has been very easy for me to adapt to many types of environments and since I have taken Psychology, I understand it that much more.
I have made the commitment to achieve my BA in Psychology for my children and my family. But I will continue into a Masters Program and Doctorate for myself. Along the way, I am also going to learn more about myself and what makes me happy.
It was difficult to put myself first at times, because with my four children, husband, 3 dogs, and 1 cat, it gets difficult and overwhelming. This course taught me that time for yourself is also important and I have acquired some hobbies that I will not longer be without. My goal is to travel and learn about other countries and cultures to expand my skills to increase diversity in myself.
